Snaefellsnes National Park | Minibus Tour

Journey up close to the Snæfellsjökull glacier-volcano and visit spectacular places in the surrounding National Park

11 Hours
Very easy
What to expect
This Snaefellsnes Peninsula Tour takes you on a fascinating journey, culminating right about the halfway point. There you can marvel at the mighty 1.450 meter Snaefellsjokull  (Snæfellsjökull) volcano glacier while we visit the national park. Jules Verne made it famous in his novel “Journey to the Center of the Earth”.
The journey begins by taking the 6 km long underwater tunnel – crossing under Hvalfjörður, the Whale bay fjord. Afterward, we travel along the peninsula with the seaside on our left and incredible mountainous scenery on our right, including the stoic Gerðuberg basalt columns. This area became famous due to the movie “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”, from 2013.
Along the way, we drive through small towns and fishing villages, seeing the spectacular bird cliffs and fishing hamlet in Arnarstapi. On the northern side, we take you to the picturesque church-shaped mountain Kirkjufell, accompanied by a wonderful little waterfall, Kirkjufellsfoss, on the other side of the road. Kirkjufell is famous Game of Thrones filming location. At Djúpalónssandur beach (not accessible in winter) we will allow those who feel up to it to try their strength with the Stones of Trial.

I went on a day-tour to Jökulsárlón. Not only were the landscape and the attractions where we stopped just wonderful - our tour guide Ian did an excellent job. This tour is long, but a very good choice, absolutely recommendable!

We did the Glacier Lagoon tour with Stefan as our guide. He was charming and very knowledgeable of the local attractions along the way and some folklore stories.
He even "arranged" for a lovely weather, both when we got to the Waterfall on a snowstorm and a lovely sunny afternoon when we reached the Lagoon and the Lava beach.
It's a whole-day trip but well worth it.
I highly recommend it for getting to see a bit more outside Reykjavik.

Had a blast with the Hot Golden Tour, and felt we got all of Iceland in a nutshell! In addition to it the guide was knowledgeable and friendly, and mixed the historical and geographic facts with enough of quirky fun facts to keep it entertaining the whole trip!
