19. Oct 2017 |2 min read

This year, over the days 1st.-5th. of November, the annual Iceland Airwaves Music Festival will be held for the 18th time both in Reykjavík and Akureyri. If you ever needed an extra reason to visit Iceland, other than its amazing nature, now is the chance to soak up our culture as well.

This year you will have the chance to see great artists such as Fleet Foxes, Mumford & Sons, Sigrid, Mura Masa, Billy Bragg, Ásgeir, Michael Kiwanuka, Gus Gus, Vök, Mammút, Emiliana Torrini and The Colorist, Glowie, Fufanu and many more.

Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavík

The venues in Reykjavík are spread over downtown Reykjavík with two big shows, Fleet Foxes and Ásgeir, in Reykjavík’s greatest and distinguished landmarks, Harpa, which has been chosen as one of the best concert halls of the new millennium by Gramophone Magazine.

Check out the exploding rap scene in Iceland with artists such as Aron Can, Emmsjé Gauti, Reykjavíkurdætur, Úlfur Úlfur, Joey Christ, Birnir, Flóni, Herra Hnetusmjör, Alexander Jarl, GKR, KÁ-AKÁ and our youngest and most awesome new duo JóiPé X Króli who just released an album Gerviglingur on Spotify which is breaking all kinds of records. You’ll get the most of the rap scene at the Reykjavík Art Museum on Wednesday and Thursday, and then in Akureyri on Thursday and Friday.

Moses Hightower is another awesome Icelandic band you must see. These neo-soul R&B-funk masters just released an album called Fjallaloft and you will be amazed by their instrumental talents and beautiful voices. You will catch them in Gamla Bíó on Wednesday among other great artists such as Högni, who you may or may not know from the bands Hjaltalín and Gus Gus.

For great music with a bonus cuteness overload, make sure you visit the Fríkirkjan venue on Saturday to see Lára Rúnars, Sóley, Mahalia and JFDR + Pascal Pinon. The latest is a solo project of the talented Jófríður Ákadóttir, member of Pascal Pinon, GANGLY and Samaris.

To name a few extra artists you would never regret checking out, go see:

Sturla Atlas

Awesome hip-hop act with Sturla Atlas, Joey Christ and Logi Pedro.

Daði Freyr

Won our hearts in the Icelandic Eurovision finals where he came second. He’ll probably be our best ever act that didn’t compete in Eurovision. Check out his music on Spotify under the name Mixophrygian.

Snorri Helgason

A singer and songwriter, former singer of the band Sprengjuhöllinn which gave their debut album 10 years ago. Since then he has been giving us emotional and heartfelt folk music, like this song Einsemd which came out on his last album Vittu til.

Auðunn Lúthersson is a sensual R&B artist doing great things such as his last album ALONE which he made a whole visual album out of.

Kiriyama Family

An extremely sexy and synthy electro pop band with talented band members that swap instruments at will.

From the creators of Steed Lord comprised of singer-songwriter and fashion icon Svala Kali and producer-songwriter and visionary director Einar Egils.

Icelandic psychedelic rock group with harmonies from heaven. They’ll play songs from their upcoming album Upplifun that’s supposed to come out this month.
