We had a wonderful time touring Iceland in the camper van. The van had no issues. The pickup and dropoff was on time. And the people who we dealt with provided great service. This was our 3rd trip to Iceland (1st time with Northbound) and we would definitely go with Northbound again.Robert • 13. Jun 2018 Rented a Ford Transit Connect from Grand Iceland in May 2018
We had an amazing time touring Iceland in our Ford Transit camper van. That was definetly the way to go. Next time we are back though we will probably rent a little bit bigger one.Bruce • 02. Jun 2018 Rented a Ford Transit Connect from Grand Iceland in May 2018
We were only in Iceland for 4 days, but what a treat. We rented a 3 space mini-van from Grand Iceland and could not be happier with the choice. We were picked up at the airport and brought to the van which had all the gear we needed for camping and cooking. The van was in good shape and had both heating to keep warm and a cooler for drinks and food. The bed had linen and was very comfortable after long days of hiking and travelling. We did have a small accident as a rock from a passing truck shattered the windshield which needed replacing and we were only asked to pay for the 15% deductible which is more than fair... thanks for that! I can highly recommend Grand Iceland for being welcoming and friendly with great focus on customer service. Thanks for the times, we'll be back!David • 01. Gummi was very accommodating and helpful, though we were disappointed in the vehicle. It was smaller than we expected, and difficult to live in in terms of cooking and accessing our gear. Probably our fault for not paying more attention to the details in the description. Also, we were in contact with an email rep of northbound, and he assured us, for example, that there would be a coffee press in the van. However, at Grand Island, they had no idea we were expecting a coffee press, and did not provide one. We bought one. Overall we think the prices in Iceland for things like renting campervans are out of line with the rest of the world in terms of value.George • 29. Fantastic trip, a very welcoming and friendly representative picked me up at the airport for the half hour drive to collect the camper in Reykjavik, which was a newer model and had been valeted to a high standard almost to the point it looked brand new inside and out. After an informative introduction to the workings of the camper, fridge, night heater, WiFi and some useful driving tips I felt prepared for the trip.
My only issue is I could not get the WiFi to work for the entire trip as it would not connect to the internet but this may have been down to my phone possibly, the owner assured me he hadn't had problems with it before. Fortunately my UK network allowed me to use my data at no extra cost so it didn't impact my trip. I would suggest making sure this works before beginning you leave the yard.
On return the handover was very simple and quick and was driven again by an extremely friendly representative back to the airport.
Whilst the company is more expensive than others available I felt the standard of vehicle and service was absolutely worth it.
Excellent vehicle in excellent condition. It was a little disappointing that the camera system was non-functional, but the on-board Wi-Fi was an amazing benefit for us as we were traveling from the USA and it allowed us to forgo getting SIM cards.James • 01. A perfect experience. The rental process was smooth and efficient. I will look to rent from Grand, next time we are in Iceland. The Range Rover was a great combination of comfort and capability which was welcome when the road disappeared under drifting snow. Loved it. I was dubious about renting from an unfamiliar company but Gummis responsiveness was reassuring and convincing. Keep up the good work Grand/Northbound and see you soonJohn • 28. Grand Iceland picked us up from our Reykjavík accommodation and took us to their office where we quickly filled out the paperwork. We had no issues with the car and we were able to negotiate returning the car to Keflavik airport as we had a very early morning flight at 0730. All in all a good experience.Janelle • 28. We enjoyed a perfect week in our Grand Iceland rental van. It was well equipt, reliable and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and relaxed and nothing was too much of a hassle. I would highly recommend the company to anyone looking for a rental in Iceland and am already looking forward to my return visit and using them again!John • 24. Our Expererience with Grand Iceland was perfect. The car was clean and everything matched with what we expected. It was a pleasure to drive the Ford transit Connect across Iceland.
Confortable to sleep, convenient to cook in, perfect to enjoy iceland's landscapes !
It was always easy to communicate with the Grand Iceland Staff before, during and after our stay. Thanks to Grand Iceland, our trip to Iceland was fantastic. We're hoping to come back in island one day. For sure, we'll book a vehicule at nothbound !
This was my 2nd time around Iceland, and after contacting a number of companies I chose NB. Pickup was waiting for us at the airport, easy pickup and they drove the 3 hour drive to Skaftafell when our alternator broke (it's a car, it happens). Van was so comfy, and it was great having a place to sleep no matter where we were on our journey. Highly recommend.Rena • 14. Nov 2017 Rented a Nissan NV 200 from Grand Iceland in November 2017
Our camper van was excellent!! Stocked with blankets, pillows and all the cooking utensils we needed. The solar powered heater at night was a life saver! (we traveled in October where it was starting to get pretty chilly at night). The bluetooth was great to listen to music and make handsfree calls from the steering wheel. And we had wifi almost everywhere, even in the middle of nowhere. I would definitely use Northbound again. Had a wonderful time and no issues... except when returning the vehicle no one was at the office so we needed to get a taxi into town.Amy • 26. We are very happy with our experience with Northbound.
We surrounded the island in a van with no problem. The roads were fine.
We didn't have any mishaps.
I recommend this company to rent a vehicle
Oct 2017 Rented a Nissan NV 200 from Grand Iceland in October 2017
My trip to Iceland was amazing! Northbound ensured all my bookings were correct and quickly made revisions to the arrangements upon my request. The camper van from Grand Iceland was better than I could have hoped for too. Well equipped, clean, and very spacious. My only complaint in all of this was the fact the weather didn't hold up during my stay in Iceland. Guess I'll be revisiting and using Northbound and Grand Iceland again.Brice • 03. We loved the Ford Transit Connect and our experience with Grand Iceland was totally awesome. The first day, Gummi, e-mailed us to say he could pick us up earlier than we expected. This communication was impressive and made our trip easier. Then we got to have a lovely conversation with him about Iceland: Northern lights, Skyr vs. jogurt, age of lava fields, breweries in Iceland, best geothermal spas to go to.
The Ford Transit was totally comfy, cozy, relaxing and safe! It was such a great way to tour Iceland. And also, a pretty economical option because it allowed us to eat our meals, have a car, and have a hotel each night. At the end of the trip, a Grand Iceland representative drove us back to the airport which was way beyond what we had expected. I also felt happy with the low key, clean typography/design of the camper van (as compared to other companies vans) and felt a kind of affection for this vehicle, almost like how sailors feel about their ships.
Overall, this was a totally incredible experience. Grand Iceland and Northbound were super efficient and kind to work with. We had been comparing rentals and started e-mailing with Northbound. Arnar was super accommodating and helpful. We immediately got a good vibe from him and the company and we were not disappointed.
Overall, such an awesome trip with the van being a main character. We hope to return to explore West and Northern Iceland and maybe see the geothermal plant again because it was a super smart use of natural resources.
We rented from Northbound in August and were pleasantly surprised with how well thought out all of the features were in our Ford Transit. The vehicle was great and the service we received far exceeded our expectations, the person we dealt with was very informative and helpful. We found the Ford Transit to be perfect for two people, comfortable even though one of use is over 6 foot tall, clean and very easy to drive. We are already planning a trip back and will rent from Northbound again.Michael • 09. Sep 2017 Rented a Ford Transit Connect from Grand Iceland in August 2017
Gummi at Grand Iceland was fantastic. Our van was equipped with everything we could possibly need; we were warm and cozy our whole trip and felt well taken care of from start to finish. Cannot recommend enough.Mandolin • 09. Sep 2017 Rented a Ford Custom from Grand Iceland in August 2017
Ha sido una conducción muy cómoda y con un precio muy bueno respecto a otras compañías. La calefacción de la camper duraba toda la noche, algo muy importante en Islandia, incluso en verano. El trato ha sido excelente.Maria Teresa • 01. Sep 2017 Rented a Ford Custom from Grand Iceland in August 2017
After reading about car rentals in Iceland I was a little anxious but our experience couldn't have been better. From the pickup, the camper itself, the communications with Grand Iceland to the return everything was perfect. Picking up the car was easy, fast, and overall a pleasant experience. The owner gave tips, good advice and walked me through the car on how to use everything. I was on my way within 30 minutes! The car itself was in prime condition, everything worked as intended, the camping and sleep gear was complete and working, the WiFi worked everywhere we went and the car was way more comfortable to drive than I thought it would be! The return was as easy as the pickup, I walked around the car with the employee and after inspection he dropped me off back at my hotel. I would highly recommend both Northbound and Grand Iceland for your vacation in Iceland!Michiel • 17. Aug 2017 Rented a Ford Transit Connect from Grand Iceland in August 2017
Grand Island was the best. Wonderful customer service and the van was super. Everything we could possibly want. Gummi met us at the airport, drove us to the van. He sat with us and explained the rules of the road and gave us pointers on where to go. Gas mileage in this van was very good and kept our cost down. Refrigerator perfect and sleeping was sound.
All in all, a great trip and would rent again from Grand Island. Thank you.
Very great experience with Grand Iceland. Very good welcome from the arrival at the airport at 2am, a pleasant surprise. The vehicle was conform to its description and our expectations. There was no additional cost or surprise. I highly recommend Grand Iceland and I will take again this company for a future trip in Iceland.Lionel • 08. We are very happy with the Grand Iceland. The car was in perfect condition. They explained everything, including many tips where to go, which roads to avoid etc.
Pickup/return on time, no issues. Definitively will start with them if looking for car in Iceland again.
A very good experience, from picking up the vehicle (actually a Ford) to returning it 10 days later, and everyday in between. Easy to drive, remarkably comfortable bed, good seating area. The camping stove was a bit erratic at times, but we always managed to get it to do what we wanted! The fridge was a great feature, and the in-van wifi system was brilliant. Altogether a great experience - highly recommended. The website was very easy to use, and we were able to pay-for add-ons in advance, which made the whole process simple and transparent.Peter • 02. Our trip could have been a completely different experience if it was not for grand iceland. We got a really good camper van and had no trouble whatsoever with the vehicle or GI. The owner was available all the time to answer our queries which eased our worries.
We booked the van from 9 Am, but since out flight came at 5 am, he arranged our pick up at 7 AM, and to our surprise the driver was at the airport at about 630.
I would recomment booking from grand Iceand and be worry free from their side.
Renting from Grand Iceland was one of the best parts of our trip. The whole experience was incredibly easy and I always felt taken care of. Both Dora and Gummi went out of their way to make sure I had all the info I needed, and were so hospitable even in the ride(s) to and from the airport, and also in taking the time to highlight some good places to visit. They answered emails very quickly. I felt truly welcomed. The van itself was in great shape and very easy to drive. Our van had both a refrigerator and sink, which made camping for the entire 14 days easy. It also had a heater that made sleeping on those colder nights enjoyable. It's size was perfect for sleeping two, camping, parking and fuel economy. Really though, the van itself although perfect, pales in comparison to the amazing customer service, attentiveness, and sincere interest that we were happy and taken care of. Thank you Gummi + Dora for a great trip to your beautiful home!Randi • 18. Jul 2017 Rented a Nissan NV 200 from Grand Iceland in July 2017
Grand Iceland was great. The van was in excellent condition, clean, and with all the amenities. I opted to get picked up in Reykjavik and drop the car off at the KEF airport and it was super easy. I was picked up at a hotel in Reykjavik and simply parked the van in long-term parking at the airport. I would definitely use them again.Ross • 12. A small great company! Personal and with good service. Smart solutions regarding the interior of the car, we got everything we needed. No "extra costs" like most other companies had (wifi, bed linnens, kitchenware etc...), everything was included.
God information about travelling in Iceland!
The company were fantastic, trying to help in every way possible, pickup/return to my hotel as well. I would have preferred a van with a rising top, but the winds can get so strong they are considered dangerous. It's a tight fit for 2 so make sure you are getting along. Everything you require is packed neatly in the van, except , and my only complaint a Porta Potty. Now this may not be a problem for many, but I had dreadful weather for nearly my whole week torrential rain/sleet snow and it's no fun trying to get to even a camp site toilet even 20/30 mtrs away if you can even get that close when it's really torrential rain and windy. Now I am assuming (always dangerous) that it is omitted because of space. Personally I think it is essential. A very minor problem is with the back doors, there must be a slight gap which leaves a very cold spot, some sort of quilted /padded material could be hung as a draught excluder. Some people may not want a toilet inside the van, I understand that, so my "complaints" if you would call them that are VERY minor. I have no hesitation in recommending Northbound and their vehicles are all fairly new and well maintained. They cannot be blamed for the weather.Gordon • 05. I had an absolutely amazing time in Iceland! Northbound helped a lot to find a campervan when almost all of the other companies were closed or had no vehicles available. Amazing customer support! They found Grand Iceland for me and I had a great experience with them. Gummi picked me up and dropped me off at the airport and he was a very nice and informative man. I had a lot of fun chatting with him on the way to Reykjavik and then back to the airport.
The campervan was also very nice: a good heater, nice bed, wifi, cooker, water container, and all the essentials needed to make the visit as comfortable as possible were there and in good working condition.
I can only recommend Grand Iceland! They are really great!
The same goes for Northbound!
Thanks so much for making my stay in Iceland an amazing one, I will be back to hunt the Aurora!
The service was EXCELLENT! We really enjoyed our time in Iceland and the camper van was perfect for our needs. On our next trip to Iceland, we will rent again with them without hesitation. We definitely recommend Grand Iceland!Philippe • 27. Oct 2016 Rented a Ford Transit Connect from Grand Iceland in September 2016
I had a great experience overall with Grand Iceland. Gunnie (sp??) explained everything very clearly as we picked up the campervan, and provided a lot of additional information that was really helpful for our trip. The van itself was extremely comfortable. Its very well insulated so I was not cold at night at all. It got us through the entire ring road with no issues. Would definitely recommend!Deidre • 18. I was so impressed with how well thought out the camper van was! I had such a good time in Iceland, and was so happy to have the camper for remote viewing of the Northern Lights. What a treat! Thanks again-
It was perfect and made my trip to Iceland hassle-free. The rental car was as described and Gummi was a great driver and an excellent tour guide whenever needed. He not only accommodated all our requests, he also brought us to amazing places which we didn't think of visiting due to limited local information and knowledge. I would always and I am already recommending Northbound and Grand Iceland for those who are planning a visit to Iceland. Thank you very much for making my trip to Iceland with my mom and her friends so perfect and memorable!Haein • 10. Oct 2016 Rented a Mercedes Benz Sprinter from Grand Iceland in September 2016
My wife and I rented a camper van for ten days in August, 2016. The van was small but new, was equipped with everything we needed (a small gas stove, a pot, a pan, cutlery, blankets, bedlinen, dish soap, etc), and everything worked fine. Grand Iceland is a small company and renting from them felt like borrowing a car from a friend. One of the two owners picked us up from the airport and drove us to the office in Reykjavik, where the van was. Returning the van also was completely unproblematic. The owner did not check the car at all. He simply trusted us that we had returned the car in good order (which, to the very best of our knowledge, we had). While he was driving us back to the airport, we had a very nice chat. Overall, it was the most pleasant experience with a car rental we have ever had and we can recommend Grand Iceland wholeheartedly. We would definitely rent a car from them again (we intend to travel to Iceland again because the landscape (glaciers, volcanos, waterfalls) and the animals (puffins, seals, whales, polar foxes) are amazing).Volker • 07. My wife and I rented the Ford Transit mini camper van for a period of 17 days as a means of exploring Iceland and using it as accommodation. The Van exceeded expectation. It was very comfortable to sleep for the two of us even though I am 1.8m. There was plenty of space for our bags, wine and food items. It came with all the cooking and sleeping equipment so we needed no further purchases and a big bonus was the WiFi so we could connect our phones to google maps for navigation. The van was new so was very easy to drive and had no problems on the gravel roads. As a company to deal with Grand Iceland were very helpful in every way and a pleasure to deal with. I Highly recommend this company.

Excellent, really beautiful country with nice people, amazing landscapes! Driving around and sleeping in the car is a good way if we don't have weeks or months to hike or bike. Grand Iceland was a super service, really kind people. For example, I forgot my glasses in the car and the guy brought it back to me in the evening with his own car!Thomas • 05. My partner and I recently rented a camper from NorthBound in July for a week. We were absolutely delighted with the service and the camper. Gummi, the owner was kind enough to offer to collect us from the airport which was fantastic! He then brought us to our brand new camper which we were very happy with. It was perfectly designed so we had all we need from the free wifi (incredibly useful!) to the sink. small fridge, cutlery, crockery, warm and clean bedding to the confortable bed.
The camper had blue tooth and heating during the night as well as black out blinds for the midnight sun. Gummi was always available via phone for any questions and was very relaxed about the camper in the sense he didn't demand it to be 100% clean when we handed it back and even let us drive it to the airport so we wouldnt need to pay a large taxi fee. Gummi was very honest.
Highly recommend using NorthBound! They are very affordable and were one of the cheaper companies we did our research on- and seeing some of the other campers that were on the road ours was much better quality.
Very good fit for us exploring Iceland in the winter. Be advised the heater used at night when the vehicle is off needs to charge either by driving around a few hours (running the engine) or via the solar panels on the roof.Devin • 09. we had an excellent trip in Iceland thanks to Grand Iceland rental services. We didn't get the Nissan NV200 that we'd booked but got a similar car ( ford transit) but there was no built-in GPS and the Wifi wasn't so great ( just enough for navigation purposes). The car was easy to drive and reliable we had no problem at all during our stay in Iceland. The convertible was really comfortable to sleep on and the van is really well equipped with everything you may need on a road trip. We'd definitely rent again from Grand Iceland and recommend this company to anyone touring Iceland.Romain • 05. Nov 2017 Rented a Nissan NV 200 from Grand Iceland in October 2017
The van was great, we drove 3500km in 12 days and saw most of the country. The bed was extremely firm, we didn't sleep more than 4 hours at a time, but it was nice to have a fridge and sink. If there was a way to have a bathroom as well that would be great!! It was challenging finding bathrooms because campsites are only open June-August, and most gas stations were either closed or for staff only.Jenna • 27. Everything was great! The car we rented was what we expected : clean, fully equipped... The 2 persons we met from Grand Iceland are very nice. we enjoyed the camper but would advise reducing the the huge advertising on the side of the van . we do not need everyone on the road to know we were tourists! a subtle GI would be better. Everyone very helpful. one unecessarily rude person outside the office when we returned in the building otherwise all greatMiranda • 12. Overall, fantastic experience with Grand Iceland for a March tour around the Ring Road. Vehicle pickup was easy. The camper was well-maintained and was able to handle Iceland's mainstream roads with ease, even when some ice and snow were involved. They were also flexible when we decided to drop off the vehicle a day early (note: dropping the vehicle off early does not get you a refund, and we weren't seeking one...we just found we didn't need the car in Reykjavik so had no need to keep it any longer).
The heater works well at night and has no noticeable impact on fuel levels the following morning.
One minor issue is that Grand Iceland's website (and others) assert that water to fill the water tank is commonly available at gas stations. We found this not to be the case, at least in outlying areas. Instead, we filled the water tank from streams and waterfalls (which is something I'd never try in the states, but is safe in Iceland).
Anyway, all in all a great experience and I'd happily do this again.
Nice service, nice people and nice car (was clean and comfortable). A bit pricey, but I guess its the prices in IcelandEduard • 25. Jan 2017 Rented a Ford Transit Connect from Grand Iceland in January 2017
The welcoming was perfect. All the hints were useful during the trip.
Everything about the car was explained properly, except for the switches and the light, but the delay to answer this question by email was fast and clear.
The service was great, the vehicle as expected, clean tidy and reliable.
It all went very well. Pick up and drop off was great.
Amazing country, fantastic scenery.
Everything was smooth, but unfortunately not without worries.
The tires were very worn out, the summer type ones and of different brands(front left and right). This made the car feel very unsafe on wet and icy roads.
The car could have been easily cleaner as-well, but this is not something that bothered us much(the tap water had residues in it but we cleaned it up, the blankets had hair strands that were not our own, there was dirt/sand in the different pockets and cup-holder spaces).
We left with an empty tank but the guys allowed us to bring it back empty so this was OK-ish after all.
The WIFI router needs fixing or replacing, it sometimes disconnected without notice, even when the engine was running and power was on.
Everything else was great and Iceland it's self compensated in full :)
The camper was very comfy but the tyres where very used and we didn't have a spare one to change it and I think that is very important in a country like Iceland where the roads are not the greatest. Very good service apart from this.Caterina • 07. Aug 2017 Rented a Ford Transit Connect from Grand Iceland in July 2017
