Lava Car Rental in Iceland

Everything’s was really good, the only feedback would be that as you are an intermediate, when we arrived for pick up at lava rental car, they make us feel that it was a mistake to select you instead of doing it directly with them, not with exact words, just the impression, in the moment we arrived, they make us clear that as we didn’t reserve directly with them, we are not fully protected (types of insurance), we read and try to understand everything, and seems that everything was the same, it’s just the way the manage it.

The car rental overall was a great value and experience. My only concern was the shuttle service. The shuttle was a small van and required several trips before the driver was able to fit us in, so they could use more drivers or a larger van. Also, for an American accustomed to a more central and universal airport rental experience (one shuttle to a car rental area or a single on site car rental area), the pick up point was somewhat confusing. The Iceland airport has a Rental Car Shuttle which Lava does not use. While I applaud Lava for trying to make this a painless experience at the airport (email and video instructions), they could make note that there are three potential airport exits to catch the van, which are not clearly marked at the airport. It would be useful to also note not to follow the "Rental Car Shuttle" area or signage in the airport, as Lava does not use this service. I would suggest updating instructions to note that the pickup point is outside the doors directly in front of the Iceland Air Checkin area.

Although we havent received the car we booked (Suzuki S-Cross instead of Suziki Vitara) the car was comfortable and the sercive smooth.

It was a perfect car, booked via Northbound with Lava Cars. Perfect service from both Northbound and Lava Cars. I would book this again this way next time!

Pick up was a disaster. Wait 37 minutes, had to call , never receive apology for the delay, with 2 little kids of 1 and 3 years old + the fact that they knew our flight number , it’s just unacceptable. The Car rental part was normal service. I choose an Icelandic company on purpose instead of big rental company like sixt etc… That pick up made me regret…

We had a really great experience during our trip this summer with Lava Car! Everything worked fine - inlcuding the pick from and to the airport! Plus our car was almost new. We would truely recommend Lava Car and definitely book again :-)

I loved this car! Was perfect for my trip. The communication from the Northbound and Lava Car Rental Teams was amazing! The car had the prefect amenities for camping and was so easy to use and have everything I needed. The location and pick up/drop off from the airport was perfect. The car was clean, well kept and ideal for a lovely short weekend trip!

La furgoneta era muy nueva y tenía todos los detalles para camping: sacos, almohadas, manta, funda de almohada, sillas, mesa, camping-gas con recarga incluida, menaje.. Echamos de menos cierre más opaco de las ventanas y cafetera.

Car was brand new- only had 2,000km on it. Was the perfect size for our family's trip around the Ring Road- comfortable and plenty of space for luggage and groceries.

It was not clear where to meet the Lava shuttle and we wasted probably 30 minutes being in the wrong spot. Then when we finally found the shuttle we had to wait because it only fits 8 people and there is only one shuttle. Same issue on drop off. Had to wait a long time to get to the airport, almost missed our flight as a result.

We upgraded and got a 2024 Duster, this was perfect.

Very good car rental experience with LAVA

The campervan wasn’t ready when we got there, they said a van broke down. So they gave us a regular rental to use in the meantime but could not give us a time frame of when it would be ready. I had to alter my plans and stay around Reykjavík and waited 6 hours to get the van. (At least it was a new van) As a compensation they said I didn’t have to bring the tank back full and bring it back in any condition but of course when I dropped it off they had no record of that and questioned why I didn’t fill it up, in the end she just let it go. This should never be an issue. They also have very limited staff so checking it and checking out took awhile. Would choose another rental company other than lava car.

smooth pick up and drop off, good service

We actually got upgraded to a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 4x4. Very capable vehicle for our trip. Very satisfied.
