4 star reviews for all companies
The wheel was not aligned and when I was releasing the steering wheel, the car wasn't going straight forward and tend to go to the right direction. The windshield wipers both front and back were not good at all, they needed to be replaced. For the heating AC it was taking some time to start heating the car. Brakes were not very sharp, had to press the brake pedal with more force than usual. lots of wind and tire noise comes into the cabin.
The car was running on diesel which was good for amount of mileage we did. The car is spacious and automatic gearbox and cruise control make it easy to drive for long hours. Also it was nice to have seated heating, very useful. USB charging was useful as well.
Car was in good shape and clean. My issue was when we picked up the car it was dark and the person who helped us did not show concern for documenting the dents & scratches. When we returned the car they went over every little ding inch by inch trying to decide what we caused. Luckily the man checking us out was familiar with the car and knew what was there previous to us renting it. If they are going to be this picky upon return they should show the same level of attention at pick up as well. We were not charged for any ding/dents but it was touch & go for a bit.
General experience was good. We did have an inconvenience with returning the car. The electronic payment methods were not working.
Another advise would be to explain more in detail to customers the possible risks (such as forecasted snow storms, the web-page that gives information about the state of the roads, and so forth). I say so because we got trapped in a snow storm that was pronosticated, and we had an accident. It would have been good to get a heads-up from locals who are more aware of the weather and such.
We actually had a Dacia Duster. It was good.

Car had done a lot of KM for something that was meant to be only 2Yrs old.Looked well used.Lots of small areas of damage which you have to agree to - not all marked.
Car did dive ok and had no problems.
Renting a car from abroad through northbound was easy. The location of the rental company was good, really close to the airport. Pick up and drop off at the airport was provided which was good. The car itself was good, stood up well to some bad weather, had good aircon and had plenty of storage space. It had quite a lot of miles on it and the gear stick and clutch were quite stiff, but other than that it was fine.
Service was perfect. They pick us up at the airport and drop us off when returning the car. The only negative point was the car status. In spite of not having problems with it, the status is not so good like with international car rental companies.
They give me a subaru instead which was smaller
In general, all was al ok.
A couple of notes about the shape of our car: Change Oil control light was on since the beginning and another two red lights kept coming on with no obvious reason while driving, the back door (boot) never closed on the first try plus while driving the wind was coming in very strongly through all the door seals. And last thing was the fact that while going up-hill we had to go down with gear and were loosing speed but this one is on me as I should have checked the power of the engine and choose a stronger one.
But like I said, in general, the experience was ok.
The car was in good condition although the tires were very used and were not optimal
Starts when on. No breakdown. This is a prerequisite. On top of that : pretty bumpy car, not quite stable, air con out of order (would have been helpful on 08.02).
Staff very friendly at drop off and lift to appartment appreciated. Conversely, pick up could be improved.
The car was as described on northbound but if you check Fara's website, they show a very different variant of the Jeep. DO NOT go by those pictures since this is a basic model of the car itself and not the one shown on Fara's website.
The pickup person at the airport was not present at the receiving area and we had to call to find out that someone would be there to pick us up. Luckily we had a working cell phone to contact them when we landed.
Last but not the least, there is a surcharge fee of 2-5% for paying with a credit card. This will not be disclosed to you until you reach their office and start the paperwork. I didn't mind the fee itself but this is something that should be clearly mentioned in the rental voucher or agreement while booking. The agent told me this was a 'standard' practice across Iceland but i find it hard to believe that there is a separate surcharge for using a credit card everywhere in Iceland...
Our experience with Lagoon Rental was good overall, but our arrival experience was quite stressful. We had arrived after a very long day of travel and two flights and waited quite a long time for their shuttle driver to come. We had to call several times and this was difficult as we did not have roaming for Iceland. They kept saying the person was coming, or had come, but it is a very small arrival area and their meeting place was in our sight the entire time. It is very hard when you have others in your group and you just want to get the car and get to your accommodations. When the shuttle driver did arrive there were several other people waiting and not everyone could fit in their van. They really need to do something about that. We advised them repeatedly that we were four adults with luggage. People in another group stayed behind and their driver was going to come back to get them...

Fast communication, perfect service from the Lava Car Rental Team. The Car was in good condition, so we had no problems on our tour up to the Westfjords and in the south.
Overall good. I would recommend for Fara to provide some tips for driving in Iceland verbally upon arrival.
The Suzuki Vitara looked quite used and had a lot of km on the odometer. But it was clean, very well maintained, worked perfectly and was very reliable. We drove around Iceland quite a bit, Saefellness, into the Westfjords, and around the golden circle. We did long unpaved roads, and also a few F-roads with it, and the car was good to handle at all times. Only minor issue: Annoying squeaky and inneffective windscreen wiper blades.
Good experience - only downside was that we almost got a car without working front lights, as a replacement we got another car in very bad shape (tons of scratches) but it was fine for us. Unit we discovered that this time back lights doesn't work at all. It took additional 1h to get another car - also in a bad external look but once again - we were glad to have a working car. Last downside was that probably due to age of the car and bad shape noise isolation on driver's doors was "leaking" a lot of wind noise (minor issue). Return of the car was fast, also pick up and delivering to returning flight was spot on and without issues. Probably would use again.
The car was great, the tent idea on the roof top is super. It would be nice to have a heater for the roof tent, it was august but still some nights was cold. I like the option to go on the F roads that is great with the little Jimmy. The car runs great however it needs some alignment and balancing. The front office customer service needs some training on customer service.
Nothing bad just needs improvement, the most important part of the business is the contact with the customer.
Car was as advertised, and easy to drive. Good service in front office, though could use added staff. I wished I could get a confirmation email after returning, as it was returned during off hours.
Everything seem ok except for roof tent which get wet inside under windy and raining condition
Car was so-so. The back doors did not stay open on their own which was annoying. The wiper blades were worn causing bad visibility. The back window wiper was so worn the rubber blade was totally gone.
I booked the car early to lock in price and found I could of waited and got the car a lot cheaper (24721 ISK cheaper).
I purchased the best insurance you offer and only to find that a lot of things I was hoping to cover was not covered.
We didn't get Dacia Dokker, but Renault.
But it was prety goo for the price.
The vehicle has 120000 km and many scracthes or damages, then we were not sure to have seen all the defects before taking it and were a little worried before return it. Fortunately, Nordic Car Rental seems aware of this fact and does not try to involve us in unseen damages. Considering the vehicle itself, I think it is limited to some F Road and not all due to a limited distance between the ground and the body. In particular, we have avoid tracks with river crossing or rocky path due to this feature. I think I should have rent a real Jeep 4x4 in order to be confident on F Road. Nevertheless, the car works well, we have no troubles and to summarize we are well satisfied of this rental car.
We did not receive a RAV4 - we received a Ford SUV.
Pros - vehicle held all our bags and was comfortable. It got us everyplace we wanted to go. Young lady working at the office quickly changed GPS to English.
Cons - tire light was on and the young lady working said it would go off and the tires were fine, it was because of the diversity of the weather. It never went off upon checking tire pressure at a gas station found right front tire had 24 pounds of air - yes TWENTY-FOUR instead of the required 44. Two other tires had 50 pounds and the other 36 pounds. We corrected the air pressure and everything was fine. GPS was a disappointment and not worth the money. We used my phone and a regular paper map. When we returned the car there was no on in the front area. I could see two men laughing and doing things on a computer in the back and one looked up and saw me but went back to what he was doing...
Hi Runar, we did not receive a Toyota, it was a Hyundai which was surprisingly pleasant to drive. the GPS we rented was not very easy to use and often created more frustration than usefulness.
