We didn't get a Suzuki Vitari but a Dacia Duster. We were satisfied about this car and also about the service from Icerental 4x4. Our journey took place in times of Covid. So we had as a result of cancellation to hire our car for three days longer. That wasn't any problem.
Only thing that could have been better was the communication about pick up. We had to call a several times before this was arranged.
My experience with Lava rental was really good. They were available for all my questions. The car was in good shape
Everything was fine but when we collected the car, we were pressed to take on more insurance. When we gave the car back, we had to insist to get a written note that everything was ok with the car. And also, the deposit that is taken at the beginning is blocked for 3 weeks. The car was in good condition and very reliable.
We generally had a good experience with our rental car from Northbound/Icerental 4x4. The Suzuki looked a bit weathered, but did his job. However, there are room for improvement with regards to the pickup service. We were at the airport with no hint of the rental company. I had to ring up in order to find out when we were going to be picked up. The person who took care of us was rather gruff and seemed to be rushing through the procedure. It felt a bit like he wanted to get rid of us as fast as possible.
With regards to the Northbound website we find it easy to navigate and provides a good choice with many good value options. The booking is easy and smooth.
We had a nice trip with a nice car. Because of the bigger wheels we could go olmost everywhere. Comfertable seats and a 6 gear. In the back enough space for two big suitcases.
Had a good experience with the company! I recomand them. quick and clear.

Good, but the car uses a lot of fuel.
The car was very good. I didn't actually get a vitara, I got a newer car which was a pleasant surprise. Everything was great and the pickup was smooth and easy.
The one feedback that I'd like to give is that I didn't like that when I returned the car and everything was good, I didn't get a receipt or a confirmation email or anything like this to say all good, file closed and the money held on your credit card will be released. This is pretty standard and it felt a bit unprofessional that I couldn't get a receipt or a signature on my pick up papers that the car has been returned and all is good.
When i asked for one, it felt like I was asking for something strange even though that's very standard in other car rental companies.
I would use northbound again because I had a good experience, but this is the only thing I hope would change the next time I use northbound...
Suzuki Grand Vitara is good choice for winter time in Iceland. Just not forget to check tires because we asked about studded tires but received car was with usual winter tires.
Generally a nice experience, with everything advertised done to a certain degree. We did at one point have some problems with our car and Northern Lights were unreachable to help us. They apologised when we called later and again when we brought the car back but it still did not feel great. Staff generally nice and the car in order and a fine drive.
The car rental worked all fine. Pick-up at the airport and drop-off at the airport was good and on time. Good communication before rental period. Just make sure you check the already present dents and scratches and take pictures when picking up the car (as you would do for all rental companies). Insurances are clear and not pushed to take an insurance. The car itself was good enough, a bit an older car with some mileage, but I choose for it on forehand. Overall satisfied, price vs quality. I would rent with them again.
Our dented car ran well: it suited its purpose if getting us to Reykjavík and then back to the airport. Would be nice if the people in the office knew what a smile was....maybe their fear of covid-19 has them seeming cold and unable to come around from behind the desk.
The welcoming was rather harsh and stressed but the car was nice and the drop off also was very easy and kind.
No problem with Lava Car Rental ; except some details : door of the driver damaged by the wind with the previous driver, and not replaced, then it didn't work properly. Wipers very old, we had to change the one in front of the driver.

It was a big and solid car; it was a bit heavy steering.

je ne suis pas sur de relouer une voiture avec Icerental 4x4 .a la réception de mon véhicule on me certifie au moment de la signature du contrat de location que le plein de carburant est fait !
je prends mon véhicule et je m'aperçois que le plein n'est pas full ! mais étant fatigué du voyage je ne réclame pas la différence.
C'est à la restitution du véhicule que cela ce complique .ayant fait le plein de carburant la veille sur Reykjavik ,le lendemain je me rends à l'endroit de la restitution(50 kilomètres) et là,la personne me réclame le plein(oui je viens de faire 50 kilomètres) et me demande de justifier que je n'avais pas le plein lors de la restitution par une photo (que je n'avais pas bien sur)et me demande de refaire le plein à une station la plus proche ,sauf que se jour là ,le système de carte bancaire ne fonctionné nul part ! on pourrais au avoir le bénéfice du doute ou nous proposer un forfait de 10 euros sur place(pour l'appoint de carburant) pour éviter une perte de temps et de stress avant de prendre l'avion!
Everything about renting with Northern Lights was great. The car was exactly as described and the people were very helpful. The only thing that could be improved is that the check-in and check-out process took a very long time because they only had 1 person working at the time.
The car was clean, both outside and inside, and ready to go when we arrived. The model is ok, just what we expected. But there were problems with the driver's window. It would not close automatically unless you pushed it manually. Also few times, on the road, we experienced a failure signal telling us there was something wrong with cruise control and automatic brake radar. The owner's manual says it should be inspected. We called it in when returning the car. All in all our Suzuki seemed to be heavily used already.
Fine car and safe. Doors didn't closed very well, wind came through and tailgate sometimes opened spontaneously. The windscreen wipers, front- and back window, needed to be replaced, didn't work properly.
Service was ok. When we picked up the car it was rather odd we didn't got any explanation of the car at all. Here is the key and do you ride...
Returning the car was fine and friendly.
The car was good but the lights was very low and I didn't get enough attention to the problem
Never had a Duster before. Good car, which was perfect for our drives/tours.
Only one point was disappointing. We needed two times jumper cables to restart the car. Luckily we always found friendly locals to help. Was the battery aged and not strong enough anymore to withstand the cold? All potential power users were switched off carefully every time.
Robust and safe car for Iceland in the winter with snow.
Admin and pick up and drop off worked really well. Glad we hired a 4x4 due to the weather and time of the year. Snow tyres gave us confidence when driving , especially around the Golden Circle. Driver side windscreen wiper could do with replacing. Other than that, no issues with the vehicle at all.
Overall we were happy with the service. A few remarks: 1. More visibility on the airport so that the people know where to go/wait for the shuttle. 2. Faster handover of key and papers. 3. The car’s usb charger was broken.
Loved the car, it drove nicely and the heated seats were a nice added touch.
It barely had any windshield wiper fluid in it however so we were very lucky to have decent weather because that could have been very dangerous! And the passenger side window doesn't work very well so we couldn't put it down to take clear pictures as you never knew if it would go back up all the way. But overall, it was a great trip and great price.
They were fast and give us good information.
Further they gave us no pressure to take an extra insurance.
