4 star reviews for all companies
The services offered by Fara Touring vehicles was decent, with airport pickup available within 15mins of a call and as early as 5am. Vehicle condition was very good as well. However, I am actually in the process of sorting out a damage claim by Fara as the right mirror was broken. It appears that the Premium Insurance Package that I have chosen was still not enough to cover this, although I was under the impression that this would reduce my excess liability to 0. The company is now charging me 162,000 ISK for a complete right mirror housing, which seems excessive.
Icerental 4x4 was really good. All the staff were very kind and accommodating. They have a shuttle service to and from their office and the airport and are open 24/7. The only reason why I didn't give them an exemplar rating was because of a few reasons. 1) They were about 30 minutes late than the scheduled meeting time -- causing me to text their local number and thus, be charged mobile carrier rates -- and stress out a little bit. 2) The car we rented was in good condition, however in about the middle of our trip, one of the water pipes came out and we lost 2L of water. Thankfully we were at Akureyri (Iceland's 2nd largest town) and they have a service center in that area that solved the problem for me. The Icerental 4x4 staff was very helpful when we had the breakdown and made sure the problem was solved right away. 3) The large deposit required. I was asked to block €2,500 off my credit card as safety deposit for the car...
Car was a little older and well used than was expected but didn't affect our enjoyment and it got us to the places we wanted to get to. The whole process of booking and collection was hassle free. Will definately consider booking with you again if we return to Iceland.
Le Jimny Super, l'accueil Northbound superficiel, retard pour venir nous chercher a l'aéroport et pour finir un tarif élevé
The car wasn't great, it was quite different in terms of what it looked like versus what we received for hire. The car was covered in dents and rust as well as it not being very robust. I opened the door for entry and a wind blew the door back which resulted in me receiving a £1,900 invoice for damage. The hire was only £400 for the week, my holiday in total was £2,000!

The car was great, easy to drive since it is an automatic car. It would be excellent if someone explains a little about the car such as when to use "M" gear, where one can set up the side mirrrors or which one is to press to keep car mirrors from frogging & freezing etc.
The premium insurance is really expensive. It costs nearly as much as the car rental (42,000 ISK for 7 days). However, the road was easy to drive and it wasn't complicated to drive in Iceland at all since there aren't so many cars, especially from Bolganes to Dalvik and to Djupivogur. Of course, you have to be careful and slow down since road can be really slippery in Winter.
The car rental company should explain which time to be given when you would like to cross the tunnel. I was informed that I would have 3 hours to cross the tunnel, so the time 10 a.m. was given. However, actually, you would have time from 3 a...
The car was not as new as expected and with a few minor bumps and scratches, but everything was fine. We felt secure in the Icelandic crazy weather. The staff were friendly.
Driving the car was fine, except of the issues with heating, wipers quality and car pilot not working properly. I also found it very surprising that some cars are not equipped with USB charger and phone holder for the navigation purpose which affects the driving safety.
Generally satisfied with Dacia Duster. It was ok as we expected.
Not happy about Polish shuttle bus driver's behaviour on Monday morning the 6th of January. He did not help passengers with their luggage which they were loading in the boot with difficulty. Did not even say hello.
It is in a big contrast with a guy we met at our arrival - the service was perfect and very kind.
I was never able to really try this vehicle since the front light was burnt out. However, the staff was very helpful in finding a solution and giving me an upgrade to a Volvo as well as the refund for the bulbs that I bought to try to replace.
All went well / as expected. The transfer service was good and the guys at the compound were helpful. All as expected with the car. The only issue we had was the battery was low in the key for the central locking and the key did not work with the doors, nearly resulting in us being locked out of the car. Swapped batteries at a service station and no further problems.
The pick up was a bit lack of instruction as I don’t see any people or sign at the arrival hall. I don’t know if your guys is there or not until I call your company. By then I learnt Your guy is not here yet and waited about 30minutes after I arrive the arrival hall. Other than that the overall service is okay.
It was good but needs to improve the insurance things to be included in all the information in the website because we felt we needed to upgradevto the silver insurance it wasnt clear in the website when i booked it. It was the cheapeast but not ao much after the insurance
The car was an older model but in good shape, not many damages. The headlights were somehow a bit too weak for the Icelandic winter.
Did not get the VW polo as advised.

Good car a bit short on power. Pity that the cruise control was in Russian an Cyrillic.
Everything was great, would like the deposit of $1654 put back onto my credit card though.
Hello Thor, hello guys,
First of all, Iceland and whole trip was amazing. But really f***ing amazing, it beauty of your country and kindness of your people blew me away.
About Suzuki, car is adequate for Iceland roads. It is well equipped, and it has amazing heating system. It is comfortable enough for 4 people. What I didn't like about it is that gas mileage is not great and it could use 6th gear. It's not a greatest SUV but it's ok, we clearly opted for cheaper solution and for what we payed it was quite good. One thing to watch out, guys please change batteries in key fobs, remote lock and unlock did not work in any of our cars.
All in all car was good but experience itself was amazing.
Our first Car from Icerental 4x4 was an old car and the heating stopped working when we were on the road, we had to stop in a little village, and call the rental service. In cause of this problem we had to change the car, after 2 hours they brought us a new car, but we lost half a day waiting for it (in our short journey).
After that inconvenience we had a good trip around Reykjavik.
When we brought back the second car to Rental Service the transaction was easy and fast.
The car was very good and came at good value for money. Only problem was, that Northern Lights tried to sell us an insurance on top that was more than half the rental price. Furthermore, 2,500 € were blocked from the credit card, which we didn't know before. So we had to transfer the money while we were in the agency. Apart from that, everything was great.
All the best,
We did wait an hour at the airport and I had to ring the office, the guy said he had been 4 times problery you need a clearer board to hold up , other than that the car was great and returning the car went smoothly and fast return to the airport.
Overall rental experience was ok, what seemed like value for money turned out to be a little more complicated (ie no insurance included leaving you with a deposit of up to €700 and the staff made us quite aware that any scratch or damage will be charged to such deposit). Considering the age of the car (2011, approx. 320k kilometers/185k miles) that seemed a little off, as such we opted for the better be safe than sorry option and paid the rental price again in special insurance with no deposit. The car itself was ok to drive and did its job to get around Iceland.
Generally the experience with Icerental 4X4 was good but the car wasn’t supplied with an ice scraper and also the windscreen wiper blades were in bad condition making visibility difficult.
The car was great, but if the insurance could cover the wind damage during the winter month would be better.
