We did not get the ordered car, we got a Mazda, still 4wd but smaller driver space and what was really bad, the GPS map navigation was not updated, several times we found ourselfes in the middle of no-where. The gas was only 3/4 full when we picked up the car and at return we had an agrrement that we just returned the car(before 6 AM) and tokk a taxi to the airport, but the taxi didnt arrive so the shuttle had to drive us at 6 AM, but suddenly someone should go through the car and we arrived very late at the airport with unnecesary stress. Another thing, the thrifty car rental adress is not on any map and very hard to find, we tried tha Car GPS, google maps and apple map. Last time we rented a Car feom you on the faroy island thing whent much more smooth!

Everything was great, would like the deposit of $1654 put back onto my credit card though.

Very good overall. I was first given car that had an overpowering diesel fuel or cleaning fluid smell. This was quickly and easily changed, though perhaps should not have been given in the first place.

The staff at Thrifty Car Rental in Iceland were great - all very nice and helpful (and funny). I chose a Citroen Berlingo because I was traveling with my wife and two daughters, none of whom travel very light, so we needed the room for luggage. That being said, it is not really a car I would recommend. It was functional, but a bit rough. Tell the family to pack lighter, and get a better car.

Overall quality satified us. Everythind went well. Though, we'd like to feedback as following. It seems that Thrifty staff was quite busy when we arrived at the office so we waited nearly 30 mins to get our car. Moreover, the price we've paid is not as same as showing in the voucher but it was not much difference so we've paid it as Thrifty advised us.

The rental process was quick and easy. The car worked great, however there was a sign attached to the dashboard that stated that the car was only a passenger car and not a 4x4. This was confusing.

Everything went very smoothly, though it would have been helpful to have had instructions about dropping off the car at Akureyri. It was pretty confusing as to what to do.

Check in by the office staff for the Camper was a bit chaotic. Vehicle was missing an electrical cord and spare can of fix-a-flat(unit did not have a spare tire. It had a jack, but no spare, which makes no sense. Therefore we had to wait nearly an hour while these items were acquired. The explanation of operation of the various features such as heater, water heater, etc by the office rep was brief and a bit rushed. Luckily, our person from the office rushed off to do something else, and then one of the guys from the shop (forget his name, but he mentioned he was a former claims adjuster) stepped in to answer my operational questions. He took his time and made sure I fully understood how to operate the systems. He was great. I recommend having the units completely ready, and providing written instructions on how to operate the electrical, heating and other systems, since they often work differently with each RV. Each RV should also have a spare. If we had had a flat on one of the remote roads it would have ruined the trip, because that can of fix a flat would have never gotten us to the next town... Once we hit the road, the RV worked perfectly for us, and we were very pleased overall.

Just an okay experience renting from Thrifty. Rented a Citroen Berlingo through Northbound.is for 14 days. Perfect size for 5 people with considerable amount of baggages. Dealing with the front desk upon car pickup and return was a breeze. The reason why I rated only 3.5 was because, I think the adblue diesel additive wasn’t filled up properly and gave me a warning sign on the 10th day of driving. Luckily enough, I’ve already covered most of the mileage in our itinerary when the alarm came on. Interesting enough adblue is not available all over Iceland and only sold in certain locations. Made me worry at some point.

Generally good, but the sales representative (1) failed to include the damage inspection report in the documentation and this had to be requested; (2) did not explain the large deductible on the Thrifty third party insurance included in the rental agreement.

Experience was good in general. A bit confusing as I thought I was renting from "Northbound" not thrifty, that could have been more clear. The thrifty pickup didn't go that well, some confusion between them an me, not sure who was to blame.

Getting the car and returning the car was very simple and fast. I liked that alot. But I'm not sure about the cleanliness of the car. Because the Volvo we got wasn't clean at all, as if I rented right after someone else. It that is a standard then I think you need to improve on that. Also need better guideline about parking in the city, like what does the hour clock is and do we need to do anything, or where to wash the care in case we needed. All of these info we learnt from asking but it would help if you told us as a guideline. In general driving in Iceland was a great experience. The car was brand new and running good. Oh also it would help if you can tell us before hand how much fuel the car needed for full tank.

We got the car we asked for, and all worked fine with two minor exceptions: Car lacked engine oil after only 5 hours in use, this should have been checked prior rental by Thrifty. We bought and topped up with oil, and expense refunded by Thrifty when car was returned. Cleanliness inside the car was poor at pick up, we spent quite some time cleaning from previous user, during the first day of driving. Apart from this, it was a nice drive because it was a Volvo.

The car was very good and the service was excellent and the CX-3 came up to expectations. We had no trouble with the vehicle although I would say the road noise caused by the studded winter tyres was pretty loud and the windscreen wipers were not very effective, especially the rear wiper, as they only smeared the considerable dirt from driving around the Route 1 ring road which did have unavoidable sections of gravel surprisingly. I think they should have been replaced. The expensive price of fuel was also a surprise. The navigation unit offered was useless as it did not even have hotels in Iceland listed so we swapped that out in exchange for use of the in-car wifi which worked very well mostly and in combination with our own iPad served for navigation instead of the Garman navigation unit.

At our puckup time, nobody was at the Desk at RVK. We needed to wait 30 minutes to get our car. Return was obly possible without staff present via keybox. Car was fine as booked.

Overall the process was very smooth. We were provided with a Ford Kuga which we were quite pleased with, although I suspect the Mazda may have been a better vehicle. Thrify also were having issues with their in-car wifi system (which we only found out after we had driven far away), so ended up having to return to Reykyavik the following day to pick up a dongle. Definitely make sure you check wifi is working before leaving! Northbound were great though - no issues with them at all, and everything with the booking otherwise was excellent.

The Ford focus was fine, a little beat up, full of scratches on front bumper and a huge dent right rear passenger side, dent on drivers side too. Was hard to see the damage in the rain and darkness at night when I picked up the car. However the car rental guy walk around the car to inspect it with a flashlight. The car got us to all the sites and spots we needed to see and was good on gas. Overall a good experience.

The car was relatively new, but had already some technical issues. Luckily they checked the car before and made notes about those. Car itself - motor was very weak, not good for long distance driving.

It was an overall positive experience renting with Thrifty through Northbound initially. Runar from Northbound was quick to respond to all inquiries prior to our trip and the vehicle was there for our group of eight upon arrival at the Thrifty office. We were initially docking at 2:30 p.m. and I was informed a person from Thrifty would be there to meet us at the dock with the shuttle to take us to the Thrifty office. We ended up late and did not dock until after 4:30 p.m. We waited a while because no one was there to meet us with the shuttle. After walking around and trying to locate someone, we ended up calling to tell them we had arrived. I wonder if there was no way for Thrifty to know we had docked late due to weather and that is the reason we waited and had to call? After that initial delay, all worked out in the end. For future, perhaps there could be a better way for Thrifty to know when cruise ships arrive later than expected? Thanks again!
