Hello dear CampingCars Team, All in all we had a very nice Trip! But compared to other car rental organisation we cannot recommand CampingCars. The Cars and the Equipment of the other Organisations are much more better!!! When we arrived, CampingCars picked us up at the Airport. Super! But when we picked up the car, our reservation was incomplete because of an unsuccessfull communication between Nortbound and Camping Cars. Camping Cars didn’t know, that we payed all, that we added two chairs and two sleeping bags. The Young Lady told us, that it often happens that Northbound only slowly transmit new Information… She had to call her Boss, so that we finally started with the equiped car. But the first day, we were at a campground, we realize that not only the car was an older one, but the roof tent and the equipment too: The gas for the stove was empty. The knifes didn’t cut, the dishes were old and ugly, the pot Duden‘t have a lid. The zipper on both side of the tent were malfunction - it wasn’t possible to close it completely. On the one side the plastic protection was missing on half a side. The material of the tent was already very thin. And so on… All in all it‘s really suboptimal and not how we expected and payed for. We wrote all that to Camping Cars on our third day of holiday - noone never answered..

I am sorry to hear about your negative experience here at Camping cars, however there are a few things I would like you to know. After you sent an email to us on the second day of your rental, we replied within few hours, but for some reason you seem to have missed that (perhaps check your spam folder), here is your e-mail and our reply below:
"Hello dear CampingCars Team,
as you surely remember, we arrived on tuesday this week and our reservation was incomplete because of an unsuccessfull communication between Nortbound and you. Thankfully you had a solution for us.
But now, the first day, we are at a campground, we realize that not only the car is an older one, but the roof tent and the equipment too:
The gas for the stove is empty. The knifes don‘t cut, the pot don‘t have a lid.
The zipper on one side of the tent is malfunction - it is‘nt possible to close it completely. On the other side, the plastic protection is missing on half a side. The material of the tent is already very thin. And so on…

All in all it‘s really suboptimal and not how we expected and payed for.
Do you have a suggestion for us and a relaxed trip in Iceland?

I apologize for the hick ups in the beginning of your rental, however there are few things in our defence I would like to mention
• The age of the car is clearly stated on all website and should not be a surprise to you.
• There is no gas included in the kitchen box, so since you did not add it to your booking, no gas should be included from us.
• Cutlery is included in the kitchen box, no sharp is included in the box
There should be a lid for the pot, this is not ok, so after you have returned the car please contact Northbound to ask for a refund for the kitchen box that I will then have to confirm for you to get it.
The tent is like the car not new, however it should be fully functional, if not, please give us a call so we can set up a plan to change it out.

I would also like to mention that you were misinformed here regarding that as you wrote “Northbound only slowly transmit new Information”, that is not the case, changes to confirmed bookings are manual on our end so they are a bit slower than when you make a new booking.
Regarding the faulty zippers, we had no issues closing the tent after you returned the car.
Again, I apologize for the inconvenience you had, but please contact Northbound and ask for a refund for the kitchen box.

- At the counter of Lava Car Rental, we were told the the 2019 Dacia Duster Manual which we rented would not be available and were offered a Mitsubishi Eclipse (hybrid) and were told this would be an upgrade. However, when I said we would go, among others, to Landmanalaugar, including river-crossings, and if Dacia Duster wouldn't be better, this was confirmed and we were offered kind of a spare car modell 2019 Dacia Duster (with the comment that an alarm light would blink which would not be a mechanical but only elctronic problem). We took the car but it turned out to be quite worn out: it already had 194.000 km, a crooked steering wheel, smaller damages all over the car, several alarm signals came up during our road trip indicating several different issues.. for the very high price of the car rental (1000 EUR per week) I expected a much better condition of the car. I think we were only lucky that the car made it during our 3-week-trip without breaking down. - It took us one hour on the counter of Lava Car Rental to get the car due to a very slow employee (jamaican guy) who was not knowledgeable at all. Overall, only 1 out of 3 employees at that day was competent and was able to reply to our questions. - The woman who picked us up at the airport could have been friendlier.

I’m sure our experience was an isolated one, but our rental car experience with Lava was terribly stressful. The customer service agent did not explain anything to us in advance and was lacking people skills. We were given a vehicle with a lot of preexisting damage, that had a broken sliding door handle and would intermittently appear to be overheating (smoke was coming from the hood at certain points on our road trip). The dashboard never indicated any problems, but as foreigners in a new country for the first time with no cell service or WiFi access it was incredibly disconcerting to have to worry whether or not you would need to spend your vacation dealing with vehicle issues. There were other minor issues, for example electric cooler would unexpectedly stop working and the vehicle was missing kitchen items that were promised in the rental contract. The USB charging port in the cab did not work, and the length of the bed was shorter than advertised which was problematic for my husband who is 6’ 7” tall (this was something we gave detailed attention to throughout the booking process). The van also did not have cruise control, which was a feature that was promised in the rental description. The tires looked like spare tires (from an American’s perspective) and the rims were not the same as they had been pictured in the listing. We spent an absurd amount of our vacation time stressing out about the reliability of this vehicle instead of enjoying our first trip to Iceland, which was incredibly disappointing. Again, I share this not to complain or place blame on any company in particular, as I’m sure our experience was not the average one. I simply share to provide constructive feedback that might help Lava improve their company moving forward.

The vehicle interior was too small to use the included kitchen. Meals had to be prepared outside. Electric cooler did not keep food cold. I would recommend renting a van instead (same price) as long as you were not going to use F roads. If you are going to drive F roads opt for the Landcruiser with the sleeping space and no kitchen. Also the water tank or line had brown algae in it. We could not use it.

The car was dirty. Breadcrumbs were still on the dashboard. The windows were so greasy and dirty from the inside that you couldn't see through against the sun. the car also had various dents and scratches that were not documented, getting another Car was impossible.

The Renault Kangoo is not a very nice campervan. Because there is no connection between the front of the car and the sleeping area. That makes the sleeping area very easily wet. The condens stays in this area and it was wet all over. Also there is no possibility to use the side door of the sleeping area and that's not so handy. Also the curtain in the back was to short . So the car from last year was much better for sleeping than this one

The worst experience in my life: 1 hour waiting for an agent to pick us up at the airport They didn't know Id already paid full rent and they were to charge the fee twice. They charged 193.000 ISK from my card for "damages" without any explanation or report.

Cuando dejé el vehículo se me obligó a pagar una sanción de 35.000 ISK por fumar dentro del vehículo. En ningún momento lo hice, nada más un par de cigarros con la puerta abierta mientras tomaba un café. El precio de la sanción, justa o no, me parece desproporcionado, teniendo en cuenta además que entregué el coche en perfectas condiciones y lo cuidé como si fuera mío. Absolutamente desproporcionado. Fue imposible conseguir una rebaja en la sanción.

My first experience wasn't that good. the agent at the airport gave me a car that was 250,000 Km old, AC did not work and the car was shaking on highway. Not to mention the Tire pressure light was ON and the agent just asked us to ignore it . i had booked specifically a 2019 car. i had to then drive back half hour after i left the airport to the reykjavik location which was closest in my trip , wait for more than an hour and then get a replacement. i would give you guys 1 start if it wasn't for Jan at the reykjavik location who helped me get a replacement car. I dont trust your agent at the Airport and will advice my friends to be VERY careful dealing with him.

The car was clean and in very good condition / low mileage. But 1. Your instructions regarding arrival at the airport and pick up were inconsistent with what the rental company delivered. There was no one at the arrivals with a board waiting for us. The information we received from you was that there should have been – and as a result we were confused. Eventually we rang the rental company number and we were told that the driver could not find us and had left. This seemed strange as we were standing by the exit door in clear view. Eventually, the driver returned and picked us up – but we had to wait over 30 minutes and were not sure as to what we should do. 2. On return to the airport the driver was using her mobile phone to listen to private calls and to answer messages etc. She was not always in control of the vehicle and I did not feel safe (I was sitting in the front seat). I assume that using mobile phones in your hand in Iceland is illegal. This was not a good advert for yourselves or the rental company company.

I got Hyndai Tuscon instead, i'm not sure from which year but it's definitely not new. I didn't like the service from Lava since they gave us the keys then disappeared, and didn't give us any instruction for the car. The seat next to the driver is non-adjustable. The windshield wipers are not good enough so they couldn't clean it. and we tried to call them they didn't respond. Also we didn't know that we should contact them before in order to coordinate the pick-up, so we had to take another transportation with the help of other company to reach the office.

El 4x4 tal como se comenta en la página es del 2017, por lo tanto cargado de km. No recomendable, por un poco más de dinero tendreis un coche más cómodo (los asientos delanteros no lo eran). La tercera marcha rascaba, se encendian las luces de freno, la carroceria estaba abollada en diferentes puntos, el stop-start se calaba. En general el coche funcionó pero no con la tranquilidad que nosotros hubieramos esperado.

At the drop off I have been told that there is a damage (two dents and small scratches) on passenger's front door, which supposedly occured during my rental period. I was very doubtful because we really took care and parked car in campsites or elsewhere in safe distance from other cars. Because I was stressed due to approaching flight and intimidating attitude of your employee, I signed the »acknowledge of responsibility« and was charged the amount of 80.000 isk. On our way to the airport my children told me that they have noticed the damage already at the pick-up, but they didn't think it is important. I myself haven't inspected the car carefully, because I trusted that this has been done by staff (which was the case on our arrival). But we did made some photos at pick-up and the dent can be seen on the photo. I wote to the company asking for refund (and attached the photo), but received no answer....

The Duster was alright. We knew we were renting an older vehicle, being a rental since 2017, but it was apparent that maintenance had not been kept up with on the vehicle. The passenger floorboard carpet was peeled up, there was rattling in the engine compartment when in gear, the car had not been cleaned thoroughly, and there was no windshield washer fluid which was problematic when driving on wet dirt roads. We also ran into another couple that had issues with maintenance on their vehicle, except theirs was a much bigger problem as their brake pads were completely gone and it was metal on metal. The rooftop tent was also very frustrating. The quality of the tent was good and the fabric kept water out and did well in the wind, but a vent on the top had lost a seal and had not been replaced and subsequently the mattress got soaked while we were driving on a very rainy day and we were forced to sleep in the car and then had to put the mattress in the car while we drove for the next two days to dry it out. Northern lights did refund us 2 of our 10 days for the inconvenience of the tent leak, but it's something that I would have expected to not happen. We also ran into another couple that had the same experience, but their vent fell completely out. These see a lot of use and Northern lights should maintain them better.

We got icerental 4x4, or Northern Lights as they also are called, as our car providers. I am really unhappy with the whole rental experience and to show this I can copy here the review I wrote on google: "Beware of this company, couldn't recommend it to anyone. Worst carhiring experience I've ever had. Really many damages externally to the car, we tried to get everything on pictures before we drove off which turned out to be an impossible task. They said there was new damages to the car, charged 80000ISK for repair cost that, considering previous damages, never will be repaired. Really felt like a scam in so many ways and it was sad our otherwise great trip ended on this bad note! Also the extra insurance I had purchased had such a high selfrisk amount that this money came out of our own pockets. They also accused us of going on F-roads which was not the case, and impossible with a Hyundai i10. Another family at dropoff seemed to have similair problems and were likewise just as frustrated as us. Also got a clearly older model of the car then we had booked. Oh and no one tells you they take a 2500€ deposit on your credit card. Couldn´t recommend this company to anyone! Beware also that some companies act as umbrellas and you could end up with them even if it seemed like you booked through someone else. Like I had booked through Northbound and ended up with this company."

At the beggining we were not satisfied as the child seats were not already installed, the employees said they don't have the training for it. At the end the very friendly employee - driver from the airport - helped me with one of the seats. Into our initial Dacia also the water was leaking, what we found out the next morning, after rainy night. The car also broke down that morning, but in one hour (lucky for us we were still in Reykjavik) we got another Dacia. That one was newer and much better, so the experience was good. The staff was always very helpful and frielndly. If there were no trouble at the beggining, the rate would have been much higher as this was a good value for money experience. So I would rent a car there again!

It's a nice car, however with technical problems: 4x4 didn't work quite well, the fuel cap stayed closed, the automatic drive was sometimes disturbed. The experience with Go Island general was good. The people were frendly en correct. But I don't understand why de deposit is so high!

Sadly the rental car was not in the best condition. The rooftent was very hard to open and close and one of the engine warning lights was on when we got the car. Also one of the supporting pistons inside the tent was fixed with duck tape. It broke completely during our journey. The service support we got through cheap however was amazingly fast, direct and uncomplicated. All in all the trip was filled with challenges we luckily overcame. Service was great, but it wouldn't be needed if the car was better. In my opinion some tools like a jumper cable should also be in all cars during winter.

The car had some issues, only noticed later on when i was already far to go back to change the car. The reverse gear was jumping off, some gearbox problems were making almost impossible to reverse the car in a slow speed. The back wipers was so bad that was not cleaning, just making the glass more blurry. Tire pressure warning on the second day. Solved after putting air and reseting the system by myself. The reverse camera was not showing a proper image, even after trying to clean it, clearly a camera problem. The 3rd gear was scretchy, also a gearbox problem. The car was all beaten up when delivered, clearly the worst look dacia on the road, compared to same car from other rentals. All in all i was expecting a better car analisys and test before delivering it to the client.

This car was very nice with the 4x4. Unfortunately the navigation system wasn't working. In addition to this the car wasn't in good conditions. Many dents, leaking wheels and one part of the headlight was defective. Best regards Chris Richter

The car was ok, it served its purpose, however it was a relatively old car with big mileage, and consumed a lot, it would definitely increase customer experience if newer cars would be used for the purpose as they would consume much less gas and therefore save the customer quite a decent amount of money while traveling

Driving the car was very nice, good power and lots of space. Unfortunately the car was very old and a lot of damages and problems: window at driverseat could not be opened/difficult to open doors from the inside. Besides this, because of weather-predictions we had to go home one day earlier so we gave back the car one day earlier, but did not receive any refund..

The staff were very kind but when we arrived we were forced to upgrade our car that I had already paid for in full, which cost extra. I felt like everything was designed to cost more money when you got there so the price I found online didn’t matter at all and that was very frustrating.

Bad. You gave me a very old car more than 360000 km. The lights were very bad, noisy and you had to drive with the wheel moved to the left to follow straight . I lost 3 hours changing it . The workers there said that they knew the problem of that car, a lot of people change that car... so why do they give me that car??? We are in low seasson ... After that was ok
