Car Rentals in Iceland

Hello experience feedback for car rental. We waited 1 hour for our shuttle to the airport the evening we arrived. And the car we had was relatively older over 190,000km which is perhaps normal in Iceland? And the full was not done which forced us to calculate for our return level. It was a little caught up by the free loan of a wifi box so our appreciation is pretty correct. Thank you

We rented 4 Suzuki Vitara 4x4 and our experience was positive, on one of the cars there was a problem with the rear door that did not close and the car was replaced within 1 hour. As for the maintaining state of the cars I have to say that it was not optimal as the keys with remote control were faulty (perhaps cause low battery?) and it was very difficult to open and close the doors, the visibility while driving with snow and rain did not was optimal cause worn wipers. Cleaning cars ok

My experience with nordbound and northern lights was amazing. The service was great and pretty fast. This was my first time renting a car and i couldnt have chosen a better rental company. The people who work there are really calming, professional and are very clear.

Easy rental process and capable car!

Hi. The Dacia Duster was just fine. The whole trip went great. The thing that bothered me was the deposit that is as high as the price of the car. That was a bummer when we arrived in Iceland. We had to pay additional assurance to be able to go with 720 euros deposit. So i have to add that issue to this review.

We rented our car from LavaCar using Northbound as the agent. We had a great experience without facing any problem from start to end. They are taking you from the airport with a shuttle to another place where the car rental companies are located (5 minutes drive). And of course they drive you back when you bring back the car :) The only problem was the guy asked me to check the car if there are any extra problems than written in the paper but the weather was awful. Car was covered with snow and ice and it was night. So I said OK without checking the car properly. But at the end, there was no problem at all. Thank you for the service with great price.

compagny is very helpfull great service good price for what you get. we had some small troubles with windscreenwipers and headlight the are solved proper when we did a fly by and received a other car and 1 day free rent. pick up and delivery service was great and fast and on time. very helpfull team and good weather and travel information has been given

Car was a little older and well used than was expected but didn't affect our enjoyment and it got us to the places we wanted to get to. The whole process of booking and collection was hassle free. Will definately consider booking with you again if we return to Iceland.

Our actual car was a Kia Sportage. It was 4WD and was fitted with studded tyres. An agent was waiting for us at the airport to take us the to the car rental centre and the return trip to the Airport was done as soon as we were ready.

EVERYTHING went very smoothly. They took us from the airport on time and finally brought us back there. The process of renting a car was easy and hassle free.

It was just perfect for my friend and me. Just a nice small car to drive is through the south of Iceland

The car was good and had all the options as prescripted. He consumed a lot of gas!! We had to fill him up every 300km and we weren't even driving in 4WD.

The car wasn't great, it was quite different in terms of what it looked like versus what we received for hire. The car was covered in dents and rust as well as it not being very robust. I opened the door for entry and a wind blew the door back which resulted in me receiving a £1,900 invoice for damage. The hire was only £400 for the week, my holiday in total was £2,000!

Thanks for reat support we came to the office recive car (They offer us some varanty or they will freez 2 500€ on my bank acount which was quite suprise for me but to be onest when return the car I was happy that we used extra insurence because of Iceland weather and road condition) however guys in office was good sens of humor and I can say if you would like to o to Iceland Northbound and Northern Lights Car Rental is good choice. :)

Our flight had 3 hours delay, so I informed the rental company about it. However, as we arrived, there wasn´t anybody to pick us up. After 2 calls and ca 1 hour waiting somebody came to drive us to the car rental place. I chose the rental company because of the price and free GPS. But the GPS didn't worked at all. The guy showed us our car, but he did not check if the GPS was working properly. I had to return it 5 times!!! Every time he gave me a new one, it work for 2 minutes and then it shout down. It was because the adapter he gave us was not working, not the display. But he did not try it with us at all (after he gave us the keys, he had new customers and did not bother to help us). He told me, if we have problem with the GPS, he could offer us some discount as soon we return the car, so I gave up and we used our mobile phones whole time. As soon as we returned the car (ca 1,5 hours) before our flight there was no time to discuss the discount because there were 2 other customers waiting. Nobody told us, that we need to return the car at least 2,5 hours before our flight. Luckily, they arranged pick up for us and for another pair (who had not know about it also) and so we could catch our plane. We had dacia duster and we had no problem with it.

Easy rental, no fuss returns and close to the airport. Good car with studded tires that dealt well with the conditions.

We hired a vehicle with Fara 10/01/2020 - 12/01/2020. The whole experience was by far the best I have ever seen. The gentleman involved in the airport shuttle, handover and booking process was friendly and a really nice guy. Fara are a reputable provider of hire vehicles in Iceland and I would not hesitate in using them again! Thank you so much for your service!

My girlfriend and I had an awesome all around experience with Northbound. They thoroughly educated us on the things to look out for while driving in Iceland during the winter (January specifically). The Duster was in great condition and didn't have any trouble with the weather conditions which included a lot of wind and snow. The pickup and drop-off process was very easy with a shuttle to and from the airport. Definitely recommend!
