Lava Car Rental in Iceland

We actually got an other car - Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross which was a good surprise as it was a really good car for our Iceland road trip. Rental office was quick and efficient giving all necessary details about the rental as well as driving in Iceland. Highly recommend!

Since no Dacia Duster was available, we got a Mitsubishi Eclipse, automatic. We were very pleased with the car.

We do not have the opportunity to appreciate the car cited above but we were very satisfied with the Mitsubishi Éclipse Cross PHEV that was rented to us.

Instead of the Suzuki Vitara we got a better car, namely the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV, in excellent condition. So we are completely satisfied. Perhaps just a minor reservation about the under-inflated tires on the left side, but that was easily resolved at the gas station. The behaviour of the Lavacar rental staff was very friendly and pleasant.

Really great and easy experience! We ended up in an automatic hybrid which was even nicer than we thought we were going to get. Good communication and easy checkout/return process. No hidden fees. The guys at Lava Rental weren’t friendly but they got the job done and we were outta there real fast so who cares I suppose. Would recommend!

Our experience with Northbound and Lava was very good. Booking was simple, emails with questions were responded to promptly, and the pickup/drop off with Lava was quick and smooth. I originally was concerned about Lava as they had a few bad reviews online. Our experience with them was great. The 'car' was excellent for the 6 of us as we drove ring road, and then some.

EveryThe whole rental process was very easy and everything worked well. Our car was well equipped and well maintained. We had a wonderful trip to Iceland.

Finding the right car with the best offer from various providers, as well as the subsequent booking, was very easy and straightforward. We were supplied with the necessary information and documents up to the trip. Thank you. We would book our car through Northbound again. The car was perfect for our trip. We had no issues at all, even though we went to the Highlands three times.

Car was great. Lava rentals could do a much better job of customer service, showing how to use the car and providing a full tank of petrol (ours was only half full).

We really enjoyed our trip to Iceland. The camper van was fun to have. We were comfortable in the van; slept well and it drove good. The staff was very friendly and very helpful, both at pick up and drop off. I did notice that the right rear hubcap was held on by zip ties and was concerned that if the zip ties broke, we would lose the hubcap. I did point that out to the staff. We also noticed that when we turned on the heater it produced a lot of smoke. The staff explained that that is ok with the initial turn on however I noticed that it smoked a lot even after running for a while. It made it a bit uncomfortable with getting in and out of the van at night since we didn't want the back to be filled with carbon monoxide. So, we tried to "time" opening the back door at night.

I was delighted by the upgrade I received for a Mitsubushi automatic. Very positive experience.

Very good equiped car, comfortable. The only thing was, the 4x4 car, allowed on F-roads, had not good tires for F-roads. I would prefer Suzuki Gran vitara or Dacia Duster the next time. Better for gravelroads.

The car drop off process needs to be improved. We waited for over 30 minutes to drop off the car and get a ride to the airport. We started panicking at one point when the shuttle driver said he “would be right back” a second time and we were asking people who were picking up their cars if they would take us to the airport. We planned to be 2 hours early for our flight and by the time we arrived at the airport we had just over an hour. If there were any lines we may have missed our flight.

My experience with Lava Car Rental via Northbound was good. We have rented Toyota RAV4; we were planning to use some of the F-Roads. The condition of the car was very good. It was in a pretty good condition. You could see that it's well maintained. We chose Northbound to rent the car because of good reviews & mentions in traveler blogs/vlogs. Only downside is (that could be also misunderstanding of us) in the website it states that you have 'guaranteed model' but we have to specify our request again at the Lava Car rental office; at first they were planning to give us different model.
