great service: easy to arrange pickup and dropoff at airport. flexible and kind staff.

It worked out great for our trip!! The only thing, I had to go in and ask the rental company how to reverse, I had never seen or driven a manual that I had to pull up and then shift to the top left to reverse. I just wish the rental place would have went over the car and it’s buttons a little more with us. They pretty much just handed us the keys. We figured everything out after a while and it was a great trip!!

Excellent service on pickup and drop off to the airport. The camper van was in very good condition and worked out very well. Highly recommended place to return and will definitely will rent with them again on next trip

The car was good, but I didn’t realize when booking that it would be quite as no frills as it was (such as the lack of automatic light shut off). The staff was great!

The Duster got me all over the country and handled the F-roads (gravel roads) very well. I would definitely use this company again. They pick you up and drop you off right at the airport in Keflavik. Every staff member I was in contact with was friendly and helpful.

The car itself was fine, and Northbound accurately made 1 change to the rental period as requested when the airline changed our flight. However, the pickup process was not as described in our instructions. That cost us about 1 hour at the airport trying to figure out exactly how and where to get our car. Lotus sends a private van to pick up customers right outside the terminal, not the bus at the (far) end of the footpath, as described.

This is hands down the best car rental company in Iceland. They were very friendly, no hard sell on insurance ( yes, you should get at least the Ash and gravel as well as sand if they recommend it.) Great communication when we wanted to extend our rental for an extra week. Just emailed them and they said no problem, emailed back an extra contract for a great price, and we were set. Easiest rental ever. Will definitely use them next time.

The tires were very, very worn, so I was hydroplaning all over the place even going under the speed limit. The car was also beat to hell, which I thought was the norm, but I met other people with nicer Dusters. However, the customer service was very good with the shuttles and the friendliness of the people. I’m not sure I’d rent from Lava Car Rental again because of the quality of the car, but the people at both Lava and Northbound were really, really great.

Pickup from the airport was extremely fast (gave the guy a call and he came in 4 minutes!), agents were all very nice and knowledgable (even gave us the idea to do the volcano hike right away, which was the best part of our trip!), the check-in/out process for the car itself was quick and painless, car itself was exactly as advertised. A positive experience overall!

Absolutely loved it! It was the perfect car for my husband and I to travel the ring road in. We even broke down one day, and the car was fixed and ready to go again within two hours! Awesome customer service

Good car, very good mileage.

I have been traveling regularly (once a month or more, minus the COVID pause) for 22 years. Mostly for work, but also personal like this trip. In my hundreds of car rentals over that time, I have never had an experience as bad as this. Originally assigned a defective Hyundai Tuscan that had issues with the diesel urea system. Waited 3 hours on the original pickup day for them to "fix" the issue. Another Tuscan on their lot had same/similar issue as well, so Lava was very familiar with this problem. After those 3 hours, the car still had the issue/warning moments after I drive away, and then the next day the message "Service urea system in 800km. Otherwise vehicle wont start." So all the way back to the airport (wasting another half day of my trip) to swap out the Tuscan for the Qashqai, the model that I had originally reserved in the first place. Lava is seemingly a small operation, that gambles with their customer's time because they cannot maintain or properly service their cars.

I had a fantastic experience renting this vehicle. It was in great condition, and actually newer than the one I had reserved. The rooftop tent was fantastic -- really better than expected. The employees were very flexible with my reservation when my flight was delayed 24 hours. They were responsive, and I got rides both too and from the airport. Best of all, the price-point can't be beat. Would rent again, no question!

The camper, in no way, can accommodate 2 adults as the advertisement said. It was the most uncomfortable camper we have had. The bench idea is terrible. Make a flat bed and put luggage and storage underneath.

I rented a camper van the week before renting a car with Nordic Car Rental through a 3rd party called Northbound. The check out took about an hour. They are understaffed and always seem to be way too busy. I asked about adding the mobile wifi but the guy said they don't really work and ton just get a SIM card at the gas station, which I though was a terrible comment from an employee. When I finally got the car it was in a little rough shape. There were a lot of dents, scraps, and wind frame damage with one forward day time running light out, but I guess it was okay because its only needed during the winter time. I got the car on empty and had to immediately take it to the gas station that is thankfully one minute away to fill up. When I tried to fill it up I couldn't find how to open the gas tank, so after 10 minutes I drive back to ask the guy how to open it and it took him a minute to find the lever hiding under the floor mat. The car I had took Petrol 95, which is way more expensive than diesel and burns way more gas. I spent 9,000 Kronas a day to fill it up, but only maybe 3,000 a day in a camper van. after having the car for a day I found out I needed to go home a day earlier and tried to email them and call them, with no response ever to see if I could change the return day and still get a 7:30 am van to the airport because my flight was at 9:30. I decided to arrive at 7:15 and there were 3 groups of people already there, one returning and 2 picking up. Again they are understaffed so I couldn't get checked in and get the shuttle to the airport until past 8 am. I was freaking out because I didn't want to miss my flight but thankfully the shuttle drive was nice and said he wouldn't leave without me! During my wait I witnessed the man being awful to the couple returning the car because they had 600 km limited mileage, but they didn't know that and they also were never told that upon picking up the car. I though it was a very shady thing the care rental company did. I started freaking out that the same thing happened to me but I couldn't look up my agreement because their wifi wouldn't work. All in all I would defiantly advise to just rent a camper van instead, in the long run it'll be cheaper and a WAY better experience. Northbound seems like a great company though to find what you need.

Easy to pick up and drop off and the duster drove well and handled all of the difficult roads that we used it on. The auto all wheel drive mode worked well when we needed it! Not the fanciest of vehicles but it worked for what we needed and the price was very reasonable.

Great service with Northbound as well as Lava rental

The car is great, fuel officiant and easy to drive. The bed inside was comfortable. The cooking equipment was ok, a little bit old but good. And we got 2 stoves which was excellent.

While we received a car older then booked, a 2015 Honda CRV, it had more cargo space than the Tucson so we did not mind. The service provided by IceRental 4x4 from start to finish was exemplary. After a slight miscommunication between email conversations and the rental location, the check in and check out of the vehicle went without a hitch, ending with the agent bringing us to the airport in our car rather than have us wait for the next shuttle. We will definitely be using them again.

Second time using Northbound and first time using Blue. Everything went seamlessly; car was excellent and service was smooth, even during COVID. Would highly recommend and will certainly be a repeat customer.
