The worst experience of rental. They have changed the van that I've ordered with one smaller and with a broken glass. All the nights was very cold and umid because the rear of the van not covered. I will not order a car with Lava car. Regards

Well, it was my choice to go for a 2017 model, but I was not expecting a car with more than 200.000 km of life; the driver seat was slightly moving when hitting bombs and the front wheels were not at all what you were expecting when you have to face Iceland winter, as too much used and with a small number of spikes (back wheels were much better). One wheel was visibly low pressure when we rented the car and we had to ask to be fixed, and they forgot to mention we had discounts on the fuel provider (one lady at a counter of N1 mentioned it to us).

Dear northbound Team, thanks for the opportunity to comment. The land and the people were fantastic. I really did enjoy my time in Iceland, even though the weather wasn't always kind during the trip. Unfortunately I have to raise a few points regarding my rental. From a riding perspective the car was doing more or less a fine job, even though the rainsensor for the wipers was broken, so the wipers only knew stop or full throttle. In a little bit of rain this was very infuriating, as you had to manually adjust all the time. Additionally the breaking pads in the front were faulty and were gone after a few hundred kilometers which made the onwards journey not only a bit nervewrecking, but looking back also a bit dangerous. This was also a big part, why I ended my trip two days early and gave the car back on the 18th of November and not as booked on the 20th. Overall the condition of the car was not completely as I imagined. In the windshield there was a gravel damage which if it was not properly handled beforehand, could have easily damage the windshield further. Additionally the car had on both front doors damages from overextending the doors from wind, as well as different other damages on the chassis. Considering the overall condition of the car, looking back I would not choose the same insurance package again... Also: The lighting in the back was not working. Not the two small booklamps and not the light on the ceiling, which was supposed to be the main light in the back. The only light working was the one for the back door which was linked with the car main battery, which always runs the danger of depleting the main battery. Also the interiour was very dirty and moldy. This did have an impact on breathing. And I never fully felt comfortable. The camping gear provided with the rental was in parts faulty or broken. Case for the gas stove was broken, one chair provided etc. I am not an overly picky person, but all in all I expected something a bit different. As I was already a few kilometers into my journey when I noticed all these things, I decided to keep going, but with faulty breaks during the challenging weather on a roundtrip of whole Iceland I did no longer feel safe. Therefore the earlier return. I raised these concerns very early to Lava Car Rental, but never got a reply or a comment. When I returned the car and raised my points again in person the clerk in charge assured me, that he would have his boss look over my concerns. Until now, I did not get any amendmend from their side. Also the interiour of the car was very spartanic and not at all as I imagined it. As it was functional this was no great concern, but there was a only a cheap fitout of the car with wooden boards with no insulation whatsoever, which made it necessary to run the heating system the whole time and to position oneself away from the outside walls, which were blank metal. Summary: - The car was functional, but faulty in parts; maybe even dangerous with faulty breaks and also with the mold an health hazard Best regards Bastian

Lava Car Rental - the folks that work there were very pleasant. The first vehicle we were given was not good (a Dacia Duster). It had some issues, one of which that stood out was it pulled to the left when you used the brakes. It died on us the very first morning. 17kms into our trip we parked it correctly at the Blue Lagoon, when we came out the vehicle would not start, nor would it jump from the security van assisting us. We spoke to the rental center during this time, but it was one gentleman working and another on lunch. Thankfully we were able to pop start it and get it back to the rental center. There we exchanged it for another vehicle (they gave us another Duster). This car seemed better at first, but we quickly realized it had its own issues. The shocks on the vehicle must have been very old, as they car bounced like a 70’s Cadillac. The wipers were worn out and on the second day coming back from the North we had to detour to Reykjavik for new wipers. They did kindly reimburse me for those when I turned in the car. The vehicle itself had an electrical fault somewhere and had a warning light that came on 3 days into our trip. It also had a bad TPMS sensor, so after we figured out that a tire was not actually going low, it was just the sensor, we ignored it. Otherwise the car worked. Maybe had we received a different car I would give them a better rating, but the vehicle had over 200,000kms on it and seemed like it needed some basic maintenance. I wouldn’t say avoid them as I believe they are a good company, but beware of the vehicle you receive.

Unfortunately bad experience - poor logistics at airport pick-up - unprepared car (we waited from 01:00 to 02:30 at night for it to be cleaned and released) - the issuer convinced us that Platinum insurance was beneficial, otherwise he would charge us for all the scratches on return, we ended up with a car that would be difficult to find out which scratch was already on it and which was "new" - Normally we probably wouldn't have taken the car (driver's door blown off by a strong wind, windshield cracked by a rock), but what to do when you're falling asleep, you have big plans for a trip in the morning and there's no other car available at the moment... - the car was fine motor-wise and worked well for the entire rental period (a week)

It wasn't the car listed above, it was a Ford Fiesta. I was told it had blue tooth, it didn't or it just didn't work. No mention of blue tooth in the Ford Fiesta audio menu. The car wasn't maintained properly. The back license plate holder had been damaged from a previous user backing into something and never fixed. So after a couple of days of gravel roads and high winds the license plate holder disintegrated and the license plate fell off. Lava were going to charge me for this! But didn't because the GPS device they gave me didn't work very well either. I won't give Lava the lowest rating as the car did get me around but I will never use Lava ever again.

The Camper was not in the best conditions: - heater was not working properly, only went one night - the lock of the camper also went wrong given a failure of the lateral door sensor so we could not lock the Van until we got to know the problem. - we report all problems to the office LAVA, but the only solution was to offer a different places of mechanic which were not close to were we stayed at that moment, were in HELLA (we were going to be there the day after) we had different stories upon how it was going to be solved. Not a good response from you. - camper conditions in general were not the best, we even found a mask from other person when we got in. We had to solve things by ourselves, and adapt to the conditions in order to not stop our route. But not happy, without solutions.

El coche que nos asignaron (Ford Fiesta) estaba bastante golpeado. La correa de distribución sonaba al arrancar el coche y durante los siguientes minutos. También se encendió una advertencia en el salpicadero acerca del motor que afortunadamente se fue al paso de 24 horas por si sola. Todo esto no habría sido un mayor problema si no hubiéramos pagado casi el doble del precio que suele costar dicho alquiler tal y como comprobamos con otros viajeros.

Northbound was excellent! My interaction with customer service over a communication problem was resolved quickly and in a friendly way. I love that they aggregate Iceland-owned companies. The Nissan NV200 was fine, but the configuration with the fold-down couch and refrigerator on the side is tight for 2 average people to sleep comfortably. I CANNOT recommend Lava Car Rental. Their customer service is indifferent and their transfer driver surly. The camping equipment is crap (all the lowest-grade IKEA) and not maintained between rentals, so I got a broken camp chair, a moldy camp chair, a dirty dish box, the table was super-flimsy, the 6” frying pan was not only too small but falling apart, a dull paring “knife,” and a sleeping bag with a broken zipper. The inside of the camper wasn’t very clean; I found an old sleeping kit bag behind the seat with dead bugs in it and there was dried mud splashed on the inside of the doors. The “curtains” were just scissor-cut strips of fabric with raw edges and no tie-backs. I looked at other campers’ kit from many other rental companies during my 3 weeks out, and nobody had such poorly chosen and maintained kit as Lava. Low price but poor service and product, so not a good value overall.

The Toyota was very good but the collection experience from Lava cars was not. The car was not ready when we arrived and they didn’t have an alternative so we had to take it without being cleaned and with a sensor problem. We were delayed for an hour or so before we could take it and they were pretty inefficient.however, luckily the car worked Ok but we felt we should have been given a discount as it was very expensive. We won’t be using your company again. I shall go direct to the supplier so that I know who I am dealing with.

The car itself was ok, but we didnt like the standard inside the car. The bed was very narrow for two adults and it was made in a very simple way, that had not been repaired, so it was almost broken when we got the car. The table was also broken and the kitchen plates and knifes was dirty and very simple. I would suggest that Lava Car rental did more, to make the standard a bit better. It could easely be done, and make the experience much better. When we arrived at the office the young man who served us, made a mistake so we payed much more, than we should have done. As the islandic money wasnt normal to us, we didnt realise the mistake until 5 days later. When we came back we told it to another man from the staff, and he agreed that it was a mistake. We had payd the duble amount than we should have done. We wonder why the company had not been aware of the mistake themselves. I expect to have the money back during next week. Im sorry to say that I would not choose to rent a car at Lava car rental next time!

We appreciated the car we rent, but we are very disappointed by the behaviour of Lava Car Rental. We had to change a flat tyre by a new one. We paid for it, we did it with Lava approval. As we subscribed insurances, we sent the invoice to Lava, and we asked to be refunded, but we didn't receive any answer to our 3 mails. Therefore, we will not recommend Lava Car Rent.

The car was OK. The service was bad. PICKUP from the Airport after 2 calls (we and others had to wait 1 hour). They had only one car running for pickup but 2 persons from the staff and therefore only space for 6 persons. No help with baggage. We had a wheel damage during our journey. We took the most expensive insurance. After a call with LAVS Cars we had the wheel repaired at our own costs. After 6 weeks we are still waiting to receive our money back. DISAPPOINTING Up to you if you would like to order a car with LAVA Cars.

Poor experience at airport. We were left by Lava rep. Also more staff needed as had to wait for pick up due to customers in front of us. Suggest you choose another company in future.

Our experience with Lava Auto was not ideal. We were stranded at the airport upon arrival for 35 min sitting there waiting for pick-up. When we got the car, there were rust spots all along the base of the car, the windshield wipers didn’t work consistently (we only realized that an hour into our 5-day journey with rain every day), the GPS was outdated and/or faulty and didn’t register any address we entered. Whatever registers that any of the doors were closed did not work, so after you shut a door firmly, the signal would still yell at you that it wasn’t shut. Overall, our experience with Lava with below our expectations. When we returned the car and told them all the issues, he said “Ok,” which made us feel sorry for the next person that rents that car. I will not be giving LAVA a good review.

The service was good. The staff were freindly. But the camper was in a bad condition: the cabinlights in the camper were brokenand the Black noise dampningen materiale hang down from the roof and was geares apart. The tyres on the front wheels were Worning and most of the spikes was missing.

Unfortunately, we did not have the best experience with Lava Auto Car Rental. First, we learned that they had double-booked our rental by three hours. They were hoping we would return the van early so that the people who booked it next could have it on time. Then, there were additional (optional) insurance charges that we paid when at the rental place. It would have been nice to know about these insurance options and costs in advance. Additionally, we had several issues with the vehicle. There was a check engine light on the whole time we had it, and the back outlets were loose and didn't work most of the time. This meant that the freezer cooler did not stay turned on the majority of the time we had the vehicle. The seat warmers were nice to have given all of the hiking we were doing. It also was really fuel efficient.

The general experience was not too good. They were over half an hour late to pick us up at the airport. The car had issues. Lava Auto was not reachable on their emergency number outside of opening hours. When we were returning the car to the office, no one was there. Opening hours was from 5am but no one was there to receive the car. Again, no one was answering the phone. We and three other customers ended up parking the cars at the airport and leaving the keys in the cars and barely reaching our flights. So generally not the best experience with Lava Auto.
