The staff was not very friendly, no smile nothing, this was a bit irritating for us. a bit more informations about the nationalparks or even the car would be helpful Also the booked WIFI did not work in the car, we called 3 times, but no response. After 2 calls we were picked up at the airport, then everything was smooth. Tha car itself has been great, and in the end we had a great holiday.

The car drop off process needs to be improved. We waited for over 30 minutes to drop off the car and get a ride to the airport. We started panicking at one point when the shuttle driver said he “would be right back” a second time and we were asking people who were picking up their cars if they would take us to the airport. We planned to be 2 hours early for our flight and by the time we arrived at the airport we had just over an hour. If there were any lines we may have missed our flight.

We liked the booking system with Northbound, but picking up the car with Lava rentals was just okay. The man was not very helpful and when we checked the car over after he gave us the keys, we noticed the front passenger door was damaged and a little difficult to close properly. When I went back into the office, he didn't want to come and look at the problem and just told me to take a photo of it, which I did but that was difficult in the dark. When we returned the car, they asked to see the photo and we had to insist the door was already damaged when we picked it up. Everything was ok in the end, and the man that dropped us off at the airport was very kind. The car itself was the absolute minimum of what we needed, its wheelbase was quite low to the ground so we did have problems and got stuck in the snow once. I do have to stress that the weather conditions were exceptionally bad and many of the locals said that the type of snow was unusual. So not really the car's fault, but if we ever go back to Iceland in the winter, we will definitely spend extra and hire a better 4WD.

The rental process was easy and we enjoyed our trip. However, we were not provided with the 2018 Nissan NV200 Camper Manual but were given a smaller van (Renault Kangoo) and told that this was an upgrade because it was an automatic transmission. This was not the van I had reserved to rent and I wasn't completely satisfied with the van or that the rental company (Lava Car Rental) did not accommodate my reservation nor provide a discount.

The driving was good. As far as the organisation of the inside of the camper goes, however, I find that there is a lot of unused space making camper life quite uncomfortable.

Globally speaking, we really appreciated our trip all over Iceland which is a beautiful country with so amazing Nature. However, we have to report some problems occurred with our Nissan NV200 van. First of all, it was a van with an important mileage ( about 210 000 kms) and we encountered following issues: • auxiliary battery has been out of order from the first day with , as consequence, no heating in the van. This issue was fixed some days after by changing the battery (done by a LAVA reps). Please however note that during the last night, the heating came down again. • problems regarding the gearbox and/or the clutch. Consequence: It was sometimes difficult to shift gears, mainly first and reverse. This problem was not permanent but got worse over time. I informed LAVA in real time and they suggest me to try to finish my trip in these conditions, as far as possible, which I did. Once again, these problems did not prevent me to enjoy Iceland, but nevertheless caused me real inconveniences.

Unfortunately we got an accident car. The passenger door couldn’t close correctly, so it was a bit loud while driving. Furthermore the workshop light was on. The Lava Car Rental staff didn‘t want to provide us with an alternative.

The car was excellent, except for the tires. We got worn-down tires on our car, which were several times fixed before, as we had to realize. We got two times flat tires during the week, we had to change wheels far from any cities - a half of a weekend, and then, second time a half a day we had to run on spare wheels to find a car service. Lava Car did pay at the end for all the service costs though. The airport shuttle, and the service in general were professional. The two defects did not ruin our week, but it was very embarrassing.

Le véhicule avait plus de 170000 km et une des portières (avant droite) ne se fermait pas bien. Je suis étonnée que l’on loue des voitures avec autant de km … cela ne me semble pas très raisonnable au niveau sécurité. Sinon aucun souci pour les transferts du et vers l’aéroport. On signe sur un iPhone le contrat donc on ne sait pas du tout ce que l’on signe. On reçoit le contrat plus tard par mail avec des photos des endroits abimés du véhicule. Nous avions également fait des photos de notre côté et les avons envoyés au loueur mais il n’y a pas eu de souci au retour.

The experience with LAVA could have gone way better; the vehicle had multiple issues and ultimately LAVA also admitted that they should have checked it better before handing it out to me. The refrigerator was not working properly, the backdoor did not open/was blocked, the gas stove can was almost empty already, the electricity ports in the back of the van (usb and 12V) were not working well, the water tank was leaking and the inside of the car smelled TERRIBLY: probably they painted the wooden plates in the van very recently and did not let the air inside the van change or just breathe, so it really felt like toxic fumes when I first got into the car. Eventually after 3-4 days the smell situation was better, but still not ideal. On top of it, on my first night, when it was time to go to sleep, I tried to make the bed and only then I realized that the 2 mattresses in the car were not matching in size, meaning I had to sleep on only one (there was no room to align them together). In my case, this was a "small" issue cause I traveled alone. But in the case this had happened to a couple, that would have been a huge problem, making it not possible for two persons to sleep in the van. On my second day I went back to LAVA office and asked for another mattress and to check everything else, cause I had to spend 15 days in that car. Martin, the employee who took care of me was really kind and helpful, and also very sorry for all the issues. They offered me to change car but honestly the one they offered was even worse (refrigerator and water tank were not "fixed" and at every turn they would have fallen on the ground), so I declined this offer. I have to mention, when the mechanic guy came out and I asked to check the backdoor and fix it, he answered with "I have to go to lunch now". It was 11am and I was already there waiting since almost 90minutes. He took a hammer and "fixed" the backdoor. I then apologized, thanked him and said I would leave. Worst icelandic experience of my 2 weeks. All around, I knew the Nissan NV200 was the cheapest option, and in all honesty I have to mention that the car (engine, tiers etc.) worked smoothly; but it is BY FAR very different from the pictures on the Northbound website. If I had known that, I would have gone for a different model. LAVA then tried to make it up for it and refunded me with 250€ at the end of my trip, which was nice even though it is not much at all. At least they appeared to be sorry and apologized for all inconveniencies. I am also sorry I had to go through this, I am a very easy going person and I don't like to complain etc., but in this case it was all just too much. Regarding Northbound, you guys offer an amazing service and what I value the most is your customer support. I have been in touch with Thordis for weeks and she always found the time for replying to my many emails. Simply awesome!! I know that in Iceland the competion in the car rental field, with camper van and so on, is very tough; nevertheless, opting for the cheap solution and selling it as a "great offer" when it really is not so great, might work as a boomerang. So my suggestion is either to lower the price for this old models with huge amount of km (my Nissan had more than 140.000 km when I picked it up) or to offer better solutions for newer models. We rented the lava camper for 8 days! It was wonderful. It was a great way to see Iceland and complete the ring road! We were able to see so much more while using this camper van! Service was fast and friendly! My only complaint about the lava car would be there was no window curtains, which made changing in the van quite difficult. We ended up having to make a make shift curtain with a blanket but all other similar camper vans we noticed while at campground had a curtain which would have been convenient. Also there was a few times some dash lights came on (on and off) for our 8 day trip but they went off eventually and didn’t affect our driving at all. Overall I would recommend lava car to anyone looking for an affordable way around Iceland’s ring road!

We liked the price and how everything you needed was included. We had a couple of problems with the van, the passenger window never rolled down. Didn’t know if it was stuck or frozen? Also, found it strange that there was no handle to open the side sliding door from the inside.

Une découverte pour nous de voyager en van et une expérience super . Tout était bien . Le seule point négatif c'est que nous avions pas pris l'assurance gravillon sur le van nous avons croisé un camion sur la route 1 qui nous as projeté un cailloux sur le pare brise = fissure facturation du pare brise qui fait mal !! Sinon dans l'ensemble super . La personne que j'ai eu par mail tout le long de mon voyage de chez Northbound super répond tout le temps et attentive à nos questions même avec la barrière de la langue rien a redire .

Nada mas salir a carretera salió una alerta de neumático deshinchado o pinchado, por lo que volvimos, comprobaron los neumáticos y nos dijeron que con este tipo de neumáticos ocurría El último día nos aplazaron 24h el vuelo y nos dejaron alquilar 1 día más el coche, aunque el precio pagado es superior al del resto de días El coche no nos ha dado problemas ni en nueve ni en hielo

Hi, the car smelled a lot of gasoline when we picked it up, it took 4 days for the smell to go away. The first two days it was pretty unpleasant. Otherwise everything was fine.
