Some travelers, understandably, do not like to use credit cards and face a challenge when trying to do certain aspects of the travel, like renting a car. Most of the car rentals in Iceland do not accept you as the lessee of their vehicle unless you have a credit card to cover any damages, fines and other violations in the wake of your rental.
