We were very satisfied with Star Car Rentals. Everything went smoothly and we got exactly what we applied for. The car was almost new and in perfect condition. Staff was friendly and helpful and also gave us some tips at pickup. They've also let us change the pickup address without any complications. I would definitely recommend them to anyone and will chose them again when we're in Iceland.

Generally, it was great. The car was small but perfect for two travelers, everything worked perfectly (meeting at the airport, getting the car, giving the car back and transport to the airport) and the car was in a good shape, we had no problem during our week on Iceland (about 1500 km, part of them on F-roads). Also, the Wi-fi provided worked well all the time. Maybe a small comment - it could be useful to provide USB reduction for feeding the Wi-fi and other devices directly in the car (we had our own). In general, I can recommend Jimny and the company to everyone who wants to have a small SUV and a good service for a reasonable price.

Star Car Rental is a very customer-oriented company! Car rental as well as car return in the middle of the night (11:30 pm or 10:30 pm, respectively) was not a problem for them - a huge plus for those travelling with Germania. Our experience was seamless. We were picked up from the airport and took a short 5 min drive to pick up our car. It was exactly what we booked a 2017 Suzuki Vitara, and it worked perfectly for our needs. Drop off was just as seamless. Would definitely recommend this company.

Someone was waiting to pick my husband and I up from the airport to take us to pick up the rental camper, and the whole process was quick with very little paperwork involved. MUCH easier than renting a car in the United States where you have to practically provide your blood type to rent as much as a Geo Metro. Returning the rental was simple, and we got a quick ride to the airport. The 2016 Dacia Dokker camper van was reliable and great on petrol. Any questions that I had prior to picking up our rental were answered very quickly through email, which was greatly appreciated. Great experience. Easy to book and make modifications online to add cooler box and location for pickup. Campervan clean comfortable large bed. Would add a coffee press and a coffee mugs for three to the basic supplies. Would use This service again.

The rental was very easy. We were picked up within a few minutes of our arrival time, the drive was short to the rental, we paid and signed and were on the road very quickly. Our van was comfortable and very fuel efficient. Ammenities were as advertised. Drop-off very easy too. Perfect experience.

Everything went as smooth as I could have possibly wished for. I hose to get the car dropped off at my hotel, I paid and could drive away instantly. After my 8 day trip without any issues, returning the car was equally easy. Drove to the village next to the airport, handed over the keys and that was it.
So all in all not a single complaint, would definitely recommend.

I am very satisfied with this rental company. Everything went well. After arrival, the guy from rental company was already waiting for us and he took us to the office. By picking up our car, it was very clean and prepared for our journey. We had no issues with the car within whole trip (approx. 2400km around the Iceland). Great experience! I was staying in the campground near airport, I asked to pick up a car there and the company delivered it to me. The car was in perfect conditions, I didn't have any issues with it. I would strongly recommend this company.

The car was good quality (for a 2 year, ~120k km usage of a 4x4 used of frequent rough terrain travel), very clean and clearly neatly cared for by the rental agent. All communication and interactions with the agents were top notch, very friendly, informative, professional and quick.

The van was very clean. The mattress was comfortable.

I could not say enough positive things about this company.
1. Although they do not open until 6am, they saw our flight was in at 445, and picked us up at 5am, instead of 6.
2. Pick us up from baggage claim and a name on a card so we knew exactly where to go.
3. Quickly showed us our camper, gave us a few points for us to know about Iceland and we were on our way.
4. Drop off was less than 5 mins and they took us to the airport. No stress.
5. Everything in the camper worked as promised and was laid out in a comvient way.
6. I asked questions via email and they responded quickly, and was very nice.
7. All the people we talked to were all very kind and helpful people.


The only thing that wasn’t included that we needed was a sleeping bag or blankets. We found a store once we got in to Reykjavík and bought blankets for 15.00 or make use you pick the sleeping bag add on.

Our rental had everything we needed for our stay in Iceland and made it easy to get around and experience the country. Having a heater was especially helpful and it was nice and cozy while we slept.

We had a really good time in Iceland with the Dacia Dokker Camper. It's perfectly equiped for some days/weeks of camping. The staff was very nice and the service very good.

We had the most incredible road trip around Iceland and found something amazing around every corner. Northbound's platform rent and Star Car Rental were great. Always replying quickly to any questions I had. The only thing I would change is having a few more days. 7 days was abit of a rush!

Worked really well; was ideal for four of us with all the luggage fitting in the back just right, and for the gravel and dirt roads you have to go through to reach some of the sights. Built-in gps worked good and WiFi hotspot was very, very useful. Diesel was very efficient.

An excellent experience all the way through, start to finish. Their responses to my many email questions were thorough and prompt. Pickup at the airport was prompt, the gentlemen walked around the arrival hall with a board displaying my name. He found me getting coffee. I appreciated him going that extra mile, all the other pickup persons were just standing in one place waiting. I had a few issues while on the road, customer support was quick. The vehicle itself was in good condition and was easy to drive. I would recommend the company without hesitation.

Our experience with Star rentals was smooth and perfect. I’d booked a discovery sport but was upgraded to a Toyota Land Cruiser for 4 of us. We were met at the airport and taken to Stars office a few minutes away and had no issues with the car or travelling around Iceland. The car was dropped off at one of northstars rental houses and we were driven back to departures a few minutes away. In addition there is a fuel station Close to the house to fill up prior to drop off. I would have no hesitation in using again.

My experience with Star Car Rental was phenomenal. The pick up and drop of service at KEF international was smooth and helpful, especially after a long flight. The 3-person van was almost brand new and perfect for our adventures around the ring road. Three pillows, a sheet, cooking supplies and bins for food were included with the vehicle. There was plenty of storage under the bed for luggage and adventure materials. We slept three in the back without any problems, of course there was some snuggling, but the body heat was helpful!

Overall, a great experience with the people and a great vehicle to travel around Iceland.

Very good - we were met on time at KEF and returned to the airport quickly when we returned the car. The car was clean and performed well, and I appreciated Star's pragmatic approach to minor damage - in fact the agent pointed out existing damage to us. The car had sufficient room for four adults and luggage, and was comfortable to drive. It seemed quite economical - in fact fuel seems to be one of the few (relatively) cheap commodities in Iceland. A couple of very minor points - the GPS / satnav maps should be updated to include new road construction (including Star's office at Vallaras 21, although that was in the destination history) and it would have been useful to point out the speed limiter.

Our experience with Northbound was perfect! Booking online was simple and their prices were very competitive. We were met at the airport by a very nice gentlemen who drove us a few minutes to the office where we completed the paperwork, got an explanation of the contract and rules of the road in Iceland and then got our car. It was brand new....only 35 km on the odometer! We drove the entire ring road over the course of 15 days and had absolutely no problems with the car. Everything was great! We dropped the car at a location near the airport and were given a ride to our terminal. When I return to Iceland (which I hope to do very soon) I will definitely rent from Northbound again.

Renting a campervan in Tours overlord parts of Iceland. Northbound head great equipment and everything worked perfectly. We totally rent from them again. The awesome thing is there close to the airport and pick you up and you can drop the van off in the long term parking and don't have to worry about paying extra cost the shuttle over to the airport.

Star Car rental, or Ace rental are two sister companies that do amazing car rental service. We were picked up from the airport and driven to the location. The Dacia Dokker we rented was actually brand new (no pressure on us or anything, haha) and only had about less than 100 kilometers on it. We wish the man we were dealing with explained a little bit more on what we were covered with, regarding insurance. But all was well, we only had about two chips on the back which was covered by gravel protection. The inspection was really quick and we were driven back to the airport. Great service and when we come back, we will use northbound, and Ace/Star car rental again!

Great experience with northbound- met off the flight and taken directly to car . Drop off was equally as easy and quick. The van was a great way to see such a beautiful country. Camper had all the essential, comfy mattress and a great heater which was much needed in April. The all inclusive insurance with this van was a real deal clincher, peace of mind at a very decent price.

The campervan worked great for us. The heater kept us plenty warm and the car has an USB port to charge your phone.The dealership was nice and picked us up at the airport on time and we weren’t charged any unexpected fees. Would definelty recommend.

We rented the camper for 12 days, all insurances included and with an extra driver- by far the best offer compared to other rental services. We arrived at the airport and there was already someone standing to pick us up and drive us to the rental station 5 min away. Big plus was that someone picked our car up in a private place because we wanted to stay a little longer in Reykjavik. All very easy. Clean, enough space and comes with every thing you need for a camping trip :)

Renting a camper van in Iceland is defintely the way to go! Experience the freedom of going your own way, every day. We were worried about the cold at night, but with the built-in heater it was nice and warm inside the car while it was freezing outside. The matress was comfortable, the car was nice and clean and the service level of Star Car Rental just wonderful! You can reach time at any time and they're really very friendly. Dacia Dokker was a very good vehicle. It had a solid ride and was very stable on the open road. The snow tires provided excellent traction on snow packed roads and the camper handled cross winds very well. Webasco heater made for a warm nights sleep. It was quieter than some other campers that also had heaters. A second air duct that would blow warm air directly into the sleeping area would take care of the condensation on the van ceiling after a nights sleep. Would rent from Northbound on my next visit to Iceland. Very happy with my choice.

Our flight got delayed, well, we couldnt get out of the airplane due to the heavy wind, however the guys who picked us up was very kind and patient with us. He did not out any pressure on us and gave us a warm welkome. Afterwards he explained everything very well. Also the return was very nice as you provide the service to pick up the car at the prefered location/hotel. Also a good price/quality rate, and an easy accessible website. Overall just great!

We were picked up directly from somebody from the company, and then carried to pick up the car. The car was just as arranged, we didn't have any problems with it. The camper was great and perfect for our trip! The camping equipment was very good and handy, the car was easy to drive and even provided an USB-port to charge our phones whilst driving. You only get one stove though, but that wasn't a problem for us since we lent a second one which made cooking much more convenient. our experience was excellent- it was easy to organise online- we had some queries early on regarding accomodation and car collection and the responses to these were quick and very helpful. The pickup was great- the van was brand new and well kitted out- we found it very easy to travel in and very practical. All in all a very positive experience and I would highly recommend both Star car rental, and Northbound for their prompt and efficient service.

The pick-up service and drop off was very good as were your personal. The van is small by North American standards, but was reliable and had good performance. A couple of things: A roof rack would be very helpful. I brought a bike (I was led to believe it would fit under the bed - Not.) and had no place to put it while driving except on the bed. Also, if you are alone (as I was) there are blind spots that make going in reverse perilous, to say the least. I would definitely use your company again and have already passed on your info to another couple wanting to visit this Fall. Take care.

I had a great experience renting with Star car rental. We were picked up at the airport shortly after arrival and received our camper van in clean and good condition.

The heater in the camper van works great at night especially during cold weather. Gas mileage was good. Very spacious in the sleeping area. All the cooking utensils were in the box.

One thing to note is the wifi device stopped working after the first day. My iPhone said I was connected but I couldn't browse the Internet.

We loved the campervan! Cozy, warm, reliable. The heater was a big plus. The winter tires helped us navigate some icy roads and gas mileage was decent. Our contact person, Odin, went out of his way to meet us at the airport 6 hours earlier at 6 in the morning! The driver and passenger seats were a bit difficult to maneuver ( cramped) but we're slender folk and made it work. We preferred our own backpacker stove but overall loved everything! The camper from Star Car Rental was exactly as advertised. The staff were polite and friendly. They were able and glad to answer any questions I had about the camper and about driving in Iceland in general. Pickup and drop off of the camper was punctual and easy. I would certainly rent from them again.

We spent 6 days touring southern Iceland in a Dacia Dokker camper from Northbound.is / Star car rental. There were many options for camper rentals in Iceland and we chose based on very clear information and price. With some of the other comparable options it just wasn't clear what exactly would be included or covered, and we didn't want to spend any of our vacation dealing with logistics. The customer service was top notch and friendly, the only problem we encountered was with our mobile wifi which was sorted promptly.

I would recommend a larger option if you can afford it. The Dokker was sufficient, but a larger van would allow us to cook inside, which would have been great.

Fantastic. We were going to rent a room en Reykavik, but heard about carrental. Thank God we decided to do that. Everything was splendid and the trip in the nature were great. No complaints what so ever.

we had a great time with the dacia dokker camper!! it was our home for two weeks and we loved it. it had all the space and storage capacities that we needed, as well as camping equipment, fitted into the car in a very clever and inventive way. we needed less fuel than we had expected, and the car was nice to drive. we were happy to have the heater in the cold and rainy nights (at first, i was a little shocked by the weather coming from european summer with a temperature difference of 15 degrees). paperwork was efficient and the people doing the transfer from and to the airport were very friendly!! thank you ;)

We had an excellent experience driving a camper in Iceland in general, and renting from Star in particular. At the ungodly hour we arrived our host at Star took the time to welcome us with good coffee and cover the essentials foreign drivers must know. The camper was exactly what we expected and handled really well. The bed was very comfy and two people with modest luggage will find enough storage room. The curtains made a  pleasant difference! Suggestions: If you rent a camper bring a duffel bag instead of a suitcase (it won't fit in the space under the bed) and, be smart, get the gravel insurance... There is a LOT of gravel all over! We had an amazing time in Iceland whilst driving around with the brandnew Dacia Dokker Camper. The equipment of the car was absolutely sufficient and the absolutely best thing was the heating system of the car. The company is family run and they do it with passion and friendliness.

Star car rental was Top service, i will defenitley recomend it they are helpful and trustworthy. having the insurance covered  included in the price was a plus, not many companies do that. and their service is great

We choosed the option to get our Dacia Duster delivered (and returned) to our hotel, it was very convenient. The car was perfect for me and my wife since we aimed to go around Iceland on road 1 with some detours. Since we had a 4WD we werent afraid to meet the steep gravelroads at some of our detours. The only "problem" we got with the car was that we almost went out of diesel where it was longer distances between the gas stations. When we found a gas station (on the fumes we belived) we still had about 5 litres left. If/when we return to Iceland we probably will use northbound again.

We went spontaneously for a week on a camping trip to Iceland and as we were super late with booking a rental car we chose northbound. Best decision, everything went perfect. Fast, easy and friendly. Perfect experience!

I had a wonderful rental car experience with Northbound! They gave me a very clean, well-maintained vehicle and I was pleased to not have a single issue during my road trip to West and South Iceland. Owners of Northbound were very communicative and made pick-up and drop-off relatively simple. Can't wait to return to Iceland--I'll be using Northbound again!

It was great! They picked us up at the airport even after 4-5hours of delay. The car was what we were expecting for: 4x4, confortable with winter tyres...Perfect!
The only inconvenience was that the wheel pressure was a bit low and we had to pump them after 10-20km. I guess it was because of the recent chage to winter tyres but no more problems.
They were on time to drop the car off as well.
Everything went brilliant!

THE CAR: In all the Toyota van was awesome! The diesel engine was super efficient and made getting around the island very easy. The heater worked great, which is really helpful at night when temperatures can get really cold. It also had a pretty nice sound system which is great for road trip tunes! The car was immaculate at pick up. The bed was comfortable and spacious. The extra gear, like water tank, pots and pans, cutlery, etc. were very helpful in our travel. It would have been nice to have a lighter from the start to be able to use the propane stove. We had to buy one, but it was no big deal.
THE SERVICE:
Pros: Quick service. Whenever I had any questions I would get an email reply within minutes and it made everything way easier and way less stressful. Very friendly staff. Provided necessary information in the packet at the car pick up.
Cons: The drop off point was different than the pick up point, which was confusing. But they still were able to take care of us very quickly and get us to the airport on time. I wish they would have sent us more reminders prior to our trip to let us know how their pick up process worked, confirm pick up times, etc. It was good as it was, but I would have appreciated the extra notices.

The van satisfied all of our needs and was very comfortable. We slept well every night and the van was excellent getting us to all the places we needed. My only complaint would be that the van had no cruise control which would've been very helpful with the slow speed limits in Iceland. Other than that we loved everything else.

The Car was perfect and drove smooth during the whole trip! Webasto heating was very helpful during cold nights, though it was quite loud. As the walls of the car are not isolated, it would be very good to add two strings with curtains on the sides (like in the front and back). We did this ourselves and hung up our towels during nights. That helped a lot to stay warm and cozy. The only other problem were the blankets. We did not bring sleeping bags but only inlets as it was stated that blankets are available. So the Iceland Air blankets would have been all if we wouldn't have asked for another blanket. Still that was not enough, so we bought real blankets after the first night. Please do not say that blankets are inlcuded if these small ones are everything that is available. Or add a note that the customer should bring a sleeping bag. The pick up service and rental was perfect! Great job and nice people. Cheers

I rent this car for 15 days, all was ok. The car was brand new. It contained all the camping materials. I had answer to my questions on phone and email . No problem during my Holiday.

The reception was very friendly and helpful, which made us feel like we were not complete strangers in a foreign country. This was very good. The car was nice and clean, with all the necessary equipment on board. Although after 10 days or so the car started to feel a little small for us. This is our own fault as we did not want to spend more money on a campervan! As for improvements to your service, inform people about a potential deposit that is to be paid if they have an early flight back home! Do this beforehand as it could concern +/- 1000 euros! Also inform people about the camping card should they stay longer than a week, we didn't know and ended up paying +/- 80 euros extra for camping across 2 weeks (240 euros instead of 160 for camping card)! However, all things considered, we were very happy with the service you provided us with and hope your company will know much more success in the future!

All the staff was very friendly and helpful, the campervan was very nice...very easy to drive and we found camping tools already inside very usefull... the only things was very very cold inside during the night and it was August....but I will definitely suggest it!!

Good experience with Star Car Rental. Quick and easy car pick up. Very good price, and every insurance is included which is a real plus. Heater system works really well. Once it died on us, but quick and easy car change even at 11PM. We wondered how it wouldve worked if we weren’t close to Reykjavik tho. The room under the bed is not high enough for a suitcase to fit. It didn’t bother us too much tho. Our plance left at 06:00 AM, and we could leave the car at the airport at whatever time we wanted, which was really convenient.

Plus: Diesel, all insurances included. Decent camping set. Wi-Fi included. Return at any time.
Minus: Suitcase doesn’t fit under the bed.

upholsteries inside of the car - Steel is very cold material on nights. When the car is upholstered from the inside diesel heater is more efficient to use. Think green!

Winter tyres on front wear fast - 2300 km and almost wear off ---

Nice car (a Suzuki Vitara 2017 4WD) and friendly staff.
The GPS was not very user-friendly that it did not support searching by telephone number. I was thinking if the GPS devices in the whole northern Europe were like that because it was the same to the one I rented in Finland.

We really liked our dacia and everything went smoothly. For the price we paid we really had the best bang for our buck. We definetly would consider renting a car here for our next trip

Great! Good price, very responsive and helpful! Would love if they would provide some kind of map of open campsites throughout the year--happy campers does this and we ended up using their information throughout our trip. Northbound offers a helpful Iceland 101 guide with tips and tricks for getting around Iceland safely but a campsite map would make it even better!

All went fine and the vehicle was in good condition. Star was very flexible for the pickup and return.

The check-in process was very smooth, and it was really nice to be picked up at the airport and to drop it off again at the end of our trip. The vehicle was clean when we picked it up and we had no issues, though there was a bit of a squeal from the timing belt every once in a while.

Because of an error in the system, my order couldn't be fulfilled and I lost a great discount on a vehicle. But Northbound took upon themselves to find a replacement vehicle on a really short notice. Even if the vehicle wasn't as great a deal as the original one, it was a really satisfying experience. Would recommend!

But i sure would take a car with heater when it was very cold in morning without. Should be standard on Iceland I think.

The Dokker was perfect for our Iceland trip (we did the ringroad). It was quite new, the equipment was clean and thoughtful, the matress was good. The only thing I could critize is that it had no insulation at all, the inside is all sheet metal.
The guy from Star Car Rental was great. The airport transfers were smooth (though in the middle of the night), so was the pick up and returning of the Dokker at 22h. After a quick check of the underbody we were cleared and transfered back to the airport (just a 5 min. ride). The Northbound service was really good as well. I had some questions prior to the booking and afterwards and always got a promt reply.

No major issues. The last day the Webasto heater stopped working temporarily.

The renting process was nice and uncompilcated, pickup at Airport was also nice. General informations about driving in Iceland were provided. We had to refill the window cleaner, but got paid for it.

The car was ok, it is not very good isolated, e.g. you can feel the wind coming through the window open/close buttons. However, heater at night worked. At all, the car felt a little bit cheap, e.g. the Key. Since we were often leaving camping sites early at the morning it was a little bit disturbing that you have to slam the doors to close them, what was very loud. But I think thats normal for a Dacia and can be expected. However, it did it's job.

It was great. They brought the car to our hostel, saving us time and easing the process a lot. On our return, it was easy and fast and they brought us back to the airport with no hustle at all.

The car was a bit all but great, the only issue was the steering, could do with a bit of refurbishment.

Overall, great experience, I would recommend Star Car Rental to my friends

We were pretty satisfied with our rental. I emailed ahead of time to ask for a recommendation for a car that would fit our family of five and be comfortable at as low a cost as possible and the Hyundai i20 worked very well for that. Our only issues were that the person who was at the airport to pick us up did not bring a car large enough to transport our whole group to the Star Car Rental offices so my husband had to go with him while the rest of us waited at the airport. Also our wifi stopped working midway through our rental and we had a few days without it before it was working again due to the time lag between emails. The Star Rental Company did fix it however once we got our emails back and forth and the car was comfortable and performed well for us. We were able to return our car to the airport parking lot and leave the keys in the car without having to meet anyone for paperwork so that was very convenient. Overall a good experience. Be prepared to leave a deposit when checking out the car.

At our first stop, we noticed we didn't have the cooling box in the car. After contact , it was delicered in half an hour, super! Great service.

The service was good, i enjoeyd my stay in Island!

I have felt disappointed with some aspects of the rental.
First, I asked to pay in euros, in order to avoid my bank commissions. I could not, because of the data phone settings, I was told.
Secondly, I had to return earlier than I had hired, so I sent an e-mail to communicate this, and I asked, if it were possible, for some money refund. I had no answer for this e-mail sent on my second day of rent. I tried again two days later, and  I had answer: early returns were always allowed, nevertheless, there will be  no money refund.
Finally, when I had dropped off the car, since I was been taken to the airport, I was informed that, because of a damage on the windshield, I will be charged with 100 euros, self risk concept. I told that I had all the insurances hired, and I had paid one day extra. I was informed that, because of this extra day paid, I will not be charged with this 100 euros.
When I was just landing on my country, I received a message from my bank account. I had a charge of 50 euros. I have had no email from STAR RENTAL to communicate this charge. From my point of view, I must been  informed with any charge on my credit card. ´
I recognize that some of the issues I mention are, in part, my  own mistakes. But I would appreciate some nice gesture.

We had decent experience with Star Car Rental. I booked a new dacia dokker 2016 camper but got a car with 60k. This is not expected. I happy with the performance of car but would to check from a different company as well if I visit Iceland again.

I would not recommend using Star Car Rental. From the get go the gentleman who worked there was fairly blunt and impolite to us. When we arrived we went through all of the paperwork without problems and paid the 'hold' amount. However, we were then taken to the vehicle which had a door that was visibly damaged. This was on the driver's side and prevented the driver from opening the window whatsoever. We were told that all of their vehicles were rental and that this was all that was left. We were not offered a discount (mind you he had already got us to pay for it!). We made it clear that we were not happy with the vehicle and even more unhappy that he had taken payment prior to informing us of the problem. When we discussed going to an alternative car rental company he finally offered us a discount but it was only about 5% of the total rental cost. We were unsatisfied with this and said we needed some time to look up alternative rental options. At this point, we were told that he actually did have another car (same make, model and year) but he would have to fetch the keys. He returned ten minutes later and we headed off happy enough with the vehicle but rather unhappy firstly, about being made to pay prior to the disclosure of the damage, and secondly, because it appeared that we were lied to when we were initially told they had no other vehicles.

The rest of the trip ran smoothly, the vehicle was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip. On the last day we had to replace a flat tyre. This was simple and all the necessary tools were present. However, on our return home I found a 5000 krona deduction to my bank account. This was apparently due to the cost of the tyre. This was poorly handled. I received no warning or courtesy message about how much my account was to be deducted by or what the reason for it was. I had to contact them to find out why the payment had been taken, and again, was dealt with in an impolite manner.

On the other hand, I would thoroughly recommend using northbound.is, they have been brilliant. Very reliable and super quick response to messages, additionally, they offered us the best deal.
