We had difficulty finding the offices of Arctic Rental at Keflavik airport, both on arrival and departure.
Our flight was nearly an hour late but the shuttle transport driver was waiting for us. Great first impression. He was polite, friendly and courteous. Rare qualities. On arrival at the pick-up office it turned out he was a member of the staff behind the counter, not just a driver looking for a tip. Everything was explained in perfect English and off we went. Driving to Geysir I noticed a warning light on the dashboard that indicated a tyre problem. I rang the office and was directed to a nearby garage. The mechanic checked the Duster, took it for a test drive and stated "There's nothing wrong, these cars do that!". Seven uneventful (car wise) days later I was waiting outside the office at 4.30am to drop the car off at 5am and a member of staff was arriving for work. I explained I had an early flight and asked if I could get my paperwork done first. "I can do that now" she said. Polite, friendly, courteous. Apparently this is a new company! We got an upgrade to a Grand Vitara. That was a great luck as we drove more than 3000 km and the Vitara was very comfortable. We had a friendly pick up at the airport from Arctic. The car was as described. We rented the car for 4 weeks and received a discount. The contact by email with Northbound was fast and friendly. We would choose Northbound and Arctic car rental again.

Everything was very good. Even if we had to change our pick-up time due to flight cancellation, the agent came at the new arrival time with our car, which was very clean and in good condition. We had rented a Dacia Duster for 8 days in Iceland for three people and the car along with customer service were both fantastic. Runar was able to adjust our pickup time with short notice due to an adjustment in our plans along with update the quantity of drivers on the plan. The car was waiting right outside the airport upon arrival with a full tank of fuel and little paperwork to fill out before we were off and going. The car performed great and provided fantastic fuel economy with the manual transmission diesel drivetrain. Dropoff was also a breeze with simply parking the car at the airport and notifying arctic car rental where it was parked. Overall a fantastic experience.Bryce • 14. Everything went very well with the rental process, the Suzuki Jimny on the other hand, not so sure about. We had a smooth and trouble-free experience renting from Arctic. We were met after clearing customs after a long delay waiting for baggage, taken to our car, and given some helpful advice re: driving in Iceland. The car was clean, damage-free, and ran well. Guy from northbound picked us up at the airport. Handout was quick and smooth. The car was not brand new, but despite the high mileage, has served us bravely through the week. We travelled over 3,000 km through all possible wilderness of Iceland, and our Toyota has functioned flawlessly all the time.

Great overall - service, car and website were well-organised and without problems. Two quick thoughts: While booking, there was no mentioning of unlimited km, which was included as far as I understood. Also, someone was waiting for me at the airport, which I didn't know (I went to the street address of the rental car station with the help of a friend). The representatives from car rental company were very courteous and proved to be quite flexible in handling my requests. Great service, friendly staff. We where a little at a loss at the BSI Terminal as we did not know that the car will be dropt off. We did try to call and only got a message in Icelandic that we did not understand. After 15 min. the person did stop in to look for us. Everything went smooth with the car and returning it at Kevaflik airport was a breeze. I highly recommend this company, even it is still in the start up phase. Little startup problems is the norm for anybody that runs a business.
I had a really great experience. I especially enjoyed how someone met me at the airport and walked me straight to the rental car in the parking lot. Quick paperwork and I was already driving. We travelled anticlockwise round the island, the opposite to most people, based on the convoys of tourist vehicles coming clockwise. Although it meant that reading the Lonely Planet guide was more difficult (it narrates the clockwise journey), I think it was better travelling for us not being in "convoys"!
The car was great, although it only just fitted us two and our two cases; the advertising suggested it would fit more than two suitcases, but I don't think that's correct! We also found the front spoiler was too close to the ground for some roads (we were astonished by the depth and number of potholes even on major highways....). In retrospect a few more centimetres clearance would be a good thing.
We were very happy with Arctic Car Rentals. They were there for pickup when they said they would be. The only panic moment for us was when we couldn't find the nominated airport return point in the darkness at 4am. By driving around randomly we eventually saw a useful sign in one corner and with thankful hearts, left the car for them. It would have been helpful for them to provide a simple map, because the nominated car park is very large and difficult to find things, particularly in the dark.
My experience was very good: it was easy to communicate with NorthBound and the car was exactly the one I chose on internet. Transparent fees and no bad surprises. But I think the best about Northbound is the communication: the chat is always functioning and they're ready to help you to solve any doubt.Federico • 02. We rented the car through Northbound. We also booked a cave tour near Reykjavik through the same company. Runar from Northbound was great. He was super responsive, and he helped me through the process via the phone and emails to pick the best car and a tour for my needs. Ultimately, we rented a Toyota Land Cruiser that could accommodate all our party of six from Arctic Car Rental and drove the ring road around the whole country. Process of getting the car in the airport was very smooth. The car was great for off-road as well.
Overall, loved Iceland. Its a beautiful country. Having a reliable and spacious car certainly helped to make the trip enjoyable. Highly recommend Northbound.

We rented at Arctic. Good to know the pick-up is at the building from Geysir.

The reviews were really impressive but I wasn't blown away or anything. I thought it would be more smooth with the entire rental process from start to finish. Not that it wasn't smooth but I thought it'd be super amazing because of all the reviews. Also, our USB conked out in the middle of the week and so we couldn't play music anymore. Everything was fine, we could easily find a person from company after arrival (even it was late night) and car which had was great after all. Half star down is for that, we had different car (new Grand Vitara) then we order (older Suzuki Jimmy) - actually it worked for us, but might not for others. My general experience was good. The checkin was smooth and quick. The car was in great condition and gave no problem throughout my rental.
The only area of improvement is the car return. As per instructions, I left the car in the parking with keys on: although "it is assured against theft", anyone could have taken it for a ride, use the fuel or damage it, park it back, and I would be liable for all they do. This is not good, and I recommend you set up a safer method for returning the car; I understand you cannot have personnel there all the time, but maybe just a safe box where to leave the keys upon return would do. If you don't have an office there, perhaps you could have an agreement with one of the bars/shops in the airport: all you need is a small box, and then you can collect keys at your convenience.
In general good service . They were present at the airport timely even if I arrived late in the night.

Easy online rental. There was no correspondence during the 6 months between reserving the vehicle and the day of the reservation, however Northbound showed up at our hotel on-time and everything was as outlined in the reservation. Arctic Car rental was great, a person from the car rental met us around 5 am. No complains about the car or the rental experience. I was assuming the car had GPS (from what i believed when i booked) but it was not there and dropping the car back was not easy as the parking lot was full. I called them back to confirm that i left the car in the another row. I think if they had given the map for parking and also marked the rows that you can park with instructions to leave the keys, it would have been great.Vijay • 06. I am happy with the decision I made renting the Hyundai i10 but I would like to mark that first days of my trip I had some problems with the air pressure on the tyres.
Even after few stops at the gas station to fix the problem with the air pumps, the warning signal on the dashboard continued enlighted. Fortunately, it seems that after two days, the problem was solved and I had no more issues with the car.
The car we booked was good enough for doing main roads (R1) and we had enough place for our 4 big bags in the trunk. Someone waited for us in the airport at arrival and at the end we parked the car at a parking lot at walking distance for departure so perfect. The only working point is the GPS which was from Garmin. He needed an update because we couldnt find a lot of places but after all no problem. Roaming was cheap and we perfectly found our destinations with google maps. So after all great experience and "cheap" and trustable company to book a car in Iceland!Anthony • 22. We were a bit disappointed when the consultant at your check in desk tried to get us to hire a GPS as an extra, when there was an inbuilt satnav fitted to the vehicle. Also the passenger side windscreen wiper was torn, making it unsuitable for clearing the constant rain from the window and the headlights were badly misaligned. I am very pleased that I was given the opportunity to express my opinion on the subject of car rental from a company ARCTIC.
First of all, I thank the company that allowed us for the same amount paid to take the car earlier in 3 hours.
I was supposed to take the car to the central bus station, but the landlady where I rented an apartment helped us call the company and it turned out that we would get the car elsewhere in another company called GEYSIR.
On my first reservation I asked for a vehicle from the last two years and got a car with a mileage of 132,000 kilometers in my estimation a slightly older car.
When I received the car I asked 2 first requests that someone would come and explain to me about the car even though I had an active license for the past 48 years and second thing I asked for an address where to return the car at the airport.
When I left the city in the direction of our trip, I noticed an orange light on the central display, and since I was not a mechanic, I was a bit frightened, but since the bulb was orange and not red, I continued the trip until the evening we arrived at the town Hella.
The subject of the orange bulb gave me no rest and with the help of the hotel I was in, they called the company and the company said it was a sign that the car should be treated soon. I think whoever gave the car should have let me know. In addition the car made noises in all kinds of places, because in my opinion I got a relatively old car. The trip ended after nearly 2800 km we were happy that everything went well with the car, because we were a little worried throughout the trip,
Geyser gave us the wrong address to return the car in the field, but thanks to another rental company that helped and called where to return the car. We returned the car at the airport 25 minutes later, to our delight we received confirmation that the vehicle was OK.
In summary: Apparently you have to pay more for a good new car.
Please note that the people who give up the vehicle please do not send the renanl alone to the car, but always accompany the renanl to explain to mention the defects, because it shows a serious company that cares about the renants.
The agency Arctic Car was very friendly and there was no problem with them.
Northbound service was great as well.
However, the car was i) a fairly used and old model (177'000 km), the state of care was not good. The car was not cleaned on the insdide, the windshield wipers were not functioning ( I bought new ones which will get refunded by Arctic car), and the electronics were not functioning properly with low gasoline levels in the tank.
- The checking of the car must be improved before leaving it to customers. It is not normal to get a car with a tyre completely out of order. In our case, a tyre exploded 1 day after getting the car. It happens as we were at low speed, but it could have been much more dangerous at 90 km/h. We saw with the garage manager that the tyre was was really very worn.
