Our car rental with Geysir was exemplary. The vehicle was a new automatic Hilux which was in perfect condition, and drove exceptionally well on the F roads, in addition to other rough Icelandic roads. I don't put 5 stars on rating just because tires were really too much worn, expecially front ones. They also were old (I can see many fissures in the rubber) and not quality tires (made in China).
Apart tires, great experience and great price. I will rent again from Northbound surely.

It was smooth and easy! Since I had done everything online beforehand, I basically just had to sign some more papers and present my valid license and then they gave me the keys. The experience was great. After making the initial booking I wanted to add another day to the rental. Runar was in contact with me from the start. My request to change the rental period was processed within an hour or so and I experienced no issues on arrival in Iceland. The service from Geysir Car Rental was also ok. We were given a bigger car (Dacia Logan) instead. The car had a couple of more damages than listed on the agreement. I took lots of pictures and videos of the damages when I picked up the car because I had read many stories about rental companies making a fuss about every little thing. But since I had the standard insurance package I was somewhat lax about reporting these. At the time of return I was again expecting them to make an issue about those previously existing tiny dents but I had no issues what so ever. The payment process as well as the service was smooth. Geysir had a relatively fast check out and return process, and the coffee and WC available inside was great after an early arrival and departure. They also had a shuttle bus locater on the TV so you don't have to wait outside in the cold for the shuttle bus back to the airport.Elizabeth • 17. Renting a large 4-wheel drive car in Iceland will be expensive and finding a place to fix a flat tire on a Saturday or Sunday while you are riding on the spare can be frustrating. The four tires on our GMC Yukon had large rims (18 inches) while the spare was on a 17-inch rim. We visited several repair places on the South coast to find that nobody could repair the original tire because it was shredded so badly. A couple of places had 17-inch tires, but nobody had an 18 inch. No matter how much insurance you buy (and we bought everything offered), flat tires are not covered. Luckily, on our itinerary, we had to travel back near Keflavik and (on a rainy Sunday) the nice folks at Geysir Car Rental gave us a replacement vehicle so we could continue our trip. The reservation system was simple and the pick up location was central to Reykjavík. Drop off at the airport is within walking distance from the terminal but there is also a shuttle bus if you have too much luggage. The staff were efficient.Helen • 06. After reading some mixed reviews I was hesitating to rent from Geysir and contacted Northbound where a friendly and competent staff assured me that everything will be allright. So I walked five minutes from the airport to their office, the staff was helpful, quick and friendly, I even got an upgrade and was offered a 4WD. The car was absolutely in good order and returning was not problem at all. My son and I were very happy and I can only recomend Geysir!Oliver • 03. We had a great experience at Geysir. While we did not get the Subaru Forester that we had reserved, the Ford Kuga that we were given was a great drive as well. My general experience with Northbound was really good. As none of our group had a credit card to secure a car rental we couldn't find a company which would allow us to use a debut card until we came across Northbound who allowed us to use cash as the deposit in case of any damages and the rest paid by a debit card. The live chat service on their website was simple to use and allowed me to communicate effectively with a member of the team to answer all my queries and reassured me that this was fine. Details were sent through via email quickly and all their terms and conditions were easily stated to avoid us missing any thing in the agreement.Jamie • 27. We receieved a Renault Kadjar instead of the Duster and we couldnt of asked for a better car. The whole process from the moment we arrived at the rental office went without problem and was very easy. The information provided about the car was exactly what was needed as well as answering all additional questions asked. The car its self was faultless, economic to run, clean, modern and comfortable. Amazing service. An incident occurred due to no fault of northbound and they sorted it before I was notified and was even upgraded for the issue ( even tho wasn’t their fault)
Certainly recommend. Good pricing and easy to use.
We had a rather new car with about 46.000 km and including tires with spikes (standard), which we certainly needed.
By checking damages before leaving, I discovered four different spots which were not reported. It seemed to me the company didn’t do that on purses and they made a sincerely excuse. I was glad to show them the problem before otherwise it would have brought me on high costs after bringing back the car. The second day I discovered a bad wiper, so I had to drive back to the airport of Keflavik. There the company changed all wipers for new ones. Because of losing half a day, it influenced unfortunately our planned trip.
The employers were very friendly all the time and the car was running fantastic. Together with the very friendly people of Iceland and its country, we have nevertheless had a great time.
Tip one: we missed an ice scratcher in the car.
Tip two: within 5 minutes you easily can walk for the airport to the car rent. Instead of waiting for the bus shuttle.
Next time we would rent at the same company of Northbound / Geysir again.

We received good service from Northbound and Geysir and the price was very good for Iceland. The car was in good condition, although in future I would get a car with air conditioning as it got quite steamy on the windows when it was cold outside and we were wet. The insurance add one was reasonable in price, but buying through a broker and not from Geysir direct meant that in the event of an accident you would have to pay it and claim it back which wasn't made very clear at the time of purchase (or I probably just didn't read the small print). There were no issues with our rental though and I would use both companies again. Also, don't bother waiting for the bus at the airport - just walk as it literally takes 5 minutes.Michael • 26. Geysir Car Rental provided us with excellent customer service from start to finish. They were flexible and willing to move our rental period forward when we first arrived in Iceland. The hiring process was quick and easy. The car itself, a Dacia Duster, was perfect for the job and enabled us to travel round the Golden Circle in cold, snowy conditions with no problem. I was extremely satisfied with the service at Geysir . We arrived around 12:00 midnight and both of the attendants were not only very helpful, they were very polite and respectful. They actually seemed to be enjoying their job even though it was so late at night. My daughters and I enjoyed their genuinely friendly , conversational manner as we filled out the paperwork. The Hyundai i10 was clean, comfortable and got excellent gas mileage. It also handled well on the winding roads, both inclines and declines. We enjoyed our rental car from Geyser very much, had no problems with the vehicle of any nature; the counter personnel were attentive and efficient.
We rented a wifi hot spot from the company, and came very handy for all of our various drives and planed trips, specially going on the golden circle tour.
I will recommend Geyser rental car to any of my friends if they plan to visit Iceland, and the booking by Northbound was a real easy and convenient way to vacation on that beautiful island.

car with 4x4 was very useful, as the street conditions can change very quickly in iceland. seat heating system for both front seats was a big plus!! usb-plug for smart phone charging was very useful. 4x4 can be taken out if not needed, so you can safe petrol. we got a discount card for petrol purchase provided by the company. excellent service, friendly personal.Karin • 13. The vehicle was good (the only issue was that it needed new windscreen wiper blades). It served us well. I think it was worth while to have the 4 WD, even though you could probably get to most places driving carefully in a 2 WD.
The staff at Geysir are OK, but maybe could learn to smile.
The courtesy bus to & from the airport terminal was good.

I heard many Iceland car rental horror stories before renting so I was very careful to rent from an agency with positive reviews which Geysir had. Also. I purchased all available insurance which was very expensive but I wanted piece of mind. Roy was the agent who was present when I picked up the car. He was very friendly, carefully went through every aspect of the car rental contract and knowledgeably answered questions about the car and Provided helpful tourist advice. We dropped off the car in a blizzard and in the dark of the early morningZ. The attendant told us we were not filled up all the way and we would be charged a large surcharge unless we filled it up more. Even though we had just filled it up I went out into the blizzard to find a nearby station to top off the tank. That was the only issue. The only other comment is that I like an American rental agency where can pick up and drop off a rental within minutes, it took a good 30-45 minutes to complete all paperwork (even with no lines or waiting). The Suzuki jimmy was the perfect car for two with luggage and run smoothly on the regular highway, fine on the gravel covered roads, but a bit bumpy on washed out gravel roads. The vehicle was clean and in good condition and functioned well. The service was good and the car was ready despite booking the night before. Hi Runor, thanks for your email following up on our rental at Geysir. As it turned out we were provided a Toyota Yaris instead of the Renault Clio but that was fine as the Yaris ran well and was trouble-free. The only thing that we found strange about the rental was that there wasn’t a walk around conducted together with the agent before being given the keys although we were provided the damage record sheet to review. Not feeling comfortable with that I inspected the car carefully on my own and found that something had been missed, namely damage to the passenger side mirror. The mirror had a large piece of plastic housing broken out of it that was pretty obvious so I immediately pointed that out to the Geysir representative. He told me that he would note this damage on my rental file but I didn’t see him do that and wasn’t comfortable with the way this was handled. When I returned the car half a dozen customers arrived at the same time but there was only one Geysir agent present at that time. Normal procedure when returning a car is to do a walk-around before signing off on things and being given a receipt for the rental. This was not done and once again I found this strange and felt uncomfortable with the procedure. II was instructed instead to place the keys off in the dropbox after I had unloaded my bags and was advised that a receipt would be emailed to me. I still haven’t received an email so I remain concerned that I might see a receipt showing charges for repair costs covering damages that I did not cause. Clearly Geysir was short-staffed when I, along with five other customers, got off the shuttle bus together to return our respective vehicles. There was only one Geysir representative there at that time so I assume that was why I was instructed to drop the keys off in the box. The experience was good on the whole. I did pay for a diesel 4x4, unfortunately I received a petrol, which ended up costing me more to run during my trip. Well, it was not a Renault Clio. It has been "upgraded" to Honda civic. I know Civic is a better car on most (good) roads, but not on the roads in Iceland. It`s a very low car with hard suspension so the Clio would be a much better option for me, especially diesel engine option which I requested. When picking up the car I requested to clean a large chocolate stain on the back seat and the guy cleaning the cars proposed to clean it for a fee. He cleaned it for free with a wet towel after all. The duster was absolutely ok. Everything was clean and it worked without problems. The pick up of the car at the Geysir office near the airport proceed fast and uncomplicated. But the return of the car was not so easy. We bring the car back at the Geysir office at 04:30 am, because we must catch our flight at 07:00 am. Great service. The car was excellent for two ppl. Very comfortable even driving for hours on F-roads. The car had a faulty/unadjusted handbrake which was a major neglect from geysers side. Everything was fine, but I'm giving 4 stars because the email I received said someone from Gesyir would would meet us at the arrival hall. We waited and no one showed up. We got on the rental car bus and it took us to Gesyir no problem. Wouldn't be a big deal but it was inconvenient to wait for someone to not show up. We hired a Hyundai i20 which was good value. It enabled us to visit Vatnajokull Glacier, which is quite amazing. We also saw waterfalls and scenery which were absolutely memorable. When we returned to Reykiavic we were greatly impressed by the city and thoroughly enjoyed whale-watching. We loved Iceland.Paul • 23. I choose you, due to the best price. I found the service at northbound very fine, but I do have a couple of comments to Geysir car rental.
First of all I was charged the partial payment twice, both when I booked the car, and payed the remaining amount when I picked up the car. I got the money back, but of course this was still a small point of annoyance.
I tried to point out this to the guy at the rental service, but his level of engagement didn’t show that he cared. In general the guy was not very engaging and most of all gave the feeling that he didn’t want to be there. He didn’t smile at any point.
Except for these things I’m happy with the service, and would defiantly consider using your company again.
The car, checking and out were fine. My only complaint is about the fact you didn't stated clearly - or I may be blind - that your counter was not in the airport but required taking on a bus. I did not get the car (Hyundai i10 ) I booked, because someone had made a mistake and put my booking into the computer for 2018 ! When they checked the booking , they told, it was for 2017 indeed. They gave me another car - Toyota Aygo, good, that they did have a spare car at the moment. What if they didn't have one? It was practically new, run only 17000 km, in very good condition and comfortable, so to be honest, I was satisfied with it . What concerns picking up and dropping the car, it was not pleasant at all. The Geysir office is at the far end of all rental car parks, and the bus taking You there is not very reliable, as I found out. When I dropped the car at 19pm, I waited for the bus for 30 min ( it was cold, raining and windy and there was nowhere to take a shade), the bus did not come and then I just walked this long way to the terminal. Your company should warn clients, that CDW ( what was included in Your offer) and even SCDW cover practically nothing in Iceland. If a client does not want problems, it is advisable to take practically all other insurances as well, what would raise the price of the car rental significantly or take a risk to pay X amount of money later. Personally I took the insurances to have a peace of mind. In a way I do understand rental companies in Iceland to demand all those insurances, when I saw, how many clients were treating their rental cars - how they were driving and what some cars looked like - muddy all over up to the roofs etc. Which meant, they had been driving even small cars on full speed on roads they were not supposed to drive on. And of course, probably few people have any idea, what bad weather conditions mean in Iceland and how easy it is to get a stone into your car's windscreen or somewhere else even on paved roads. PS. People's service was excellent !
However , we faced a big problem . We couldn't drive properly , because of damaged front glass which couldn't be clear out of heavy rain !!!!
Consider that we rent a car for round trip in ICELAND with all bad weather conditions , and risk several times because we couldn't see !!!
When we arrived Geysirs premises, it was rather caotic inside. The staff were anonymus, we could not recognize them. And when we at last understood who were the staff, they seemed to have a lot of time doing nothing for the many customers, who had qued up. No general information was given. We waited more than 1 hr. getting our car. The second day of the hire, we punctuated on a mountain road. The car showed to have no spare wheel, only a simple sealing repair set which not could help us. We waited more than 2 hrs. for the roadside service. We got very good help Next day we were offered another car from Geysir, a Toyota Landcruiser, which we had to pick up outside our planned route. The car was allright and equipped with a neccesary spare wheel. We got no inspection form for the New car. The car was very suitable for Our purpose. Northbound should revue Geysirs routines for handling customers. The staff should be recognizeable wearing "official" clothes, and when customers has to wait, they should inform them, and increase the staff capasity.Einar Biørn • 27.
