The little Jimny was the perfect companion for what we wanted to do. Small 4x4, reliable and easy to drive. The booking process was great. Picking up and returning the car was made super easy.• Ole Joergen • 12. Aug 2016 • Rented a Suzuki Jimny from Icerental 4x4 in July 2016

Renting a car at Icerental 4x4 was very satisfying! They were very attentive and we were taken to their office to pick the car and also led us to the airport after leaving it. All perfect!Rut • 13. Sep 2016 Rented a Suzuki Jimny from Icerental 4x4 in August 2016
My experience was amazing with these guys. I made a mistake when booking and had arranged to pick the car up in Reykjavik when really we needed picked up at the Keflavik airport. I called them and within 10 minutes they were at the airport and drove us to get our car free of charge. They also thought the vehicle we booked was too small for the group (which they were very right) and gave us a free upgrade to a larger vehicle. Would definitely rent again!Nichole • 25. There was a bit of a miscommunication when we arrived but it was fixed promptly - we had changed the date of pick up a couple months prior to our travels, and apparently Icerental 4x4 hadn't been notified of this. However, after waiting a while for our car to be dropped off we called Northbound to check on the status and they quickly remedied the situation. Other than this small hiccup, we couldn't have been happier. Northbound's customer service was great - I had communicated with them via email a few times prior to traveling and they always got back to me within the hour. The people I spoke with were very pleasant. Overall, we were pleased with the Jimny (especially the price, which was MUCH cheaper than other rental companies!). I would definitely go through Northbound again.Anna • 17. Nov 2016 Rented a Suzuki Jimny from Icerental 4x4 in October 2016

We came in Iceland in December and we had rent a little 4X4 Jimny, perfect for two person! A person came in the airport for welcome us and after we let the car in the airport for the departure. If we will come back for the summer we will rent the same 4x4 at Northbound!
Thank you for everything!

We hired a Suzuki Vitara for 5 days when visiting in early December. We found the car to be is great condition, in fact we were presented with a model better than we expected. And the service provided by Northbound couldn't have been better. All round easy and enjoyable experience.Sarah • 16. Jan 2017 Rented a Suzuki Jimny from Icerental 4x4 in November 2016
We had an outstanding experience using Northbound Icerental 4x4 during our trip to Iceland. Runar was incredibly helpful and provided us with a great to-do list upon visiting the country. The vehicle was great in the winter weather, and the pick-up process was seamless. I would strongly recommend this company to anyone visiting Iceland on vacation.Jeff • 06. We had a great experience with IceRental 4x4. Airport pick up was easy, the staff was friendly and 4x4 car took us all of the southern coast easily. We loved it! Their instructions and guidance were very helpful. And when the unfortunate event happened that we got stuck in black since, they quickly dispatched someone to tow us out!Sheena • 26. In november we rent your 4x4 to travel to the south of Iceland. We planed to travel by our own and enjoy the beautiful country. We also traveled "off-road" - for German condition :) - the hole trip we felt comfortable and save in your car!
Thanks for everything!
We also want to visit Iceland in the summer - and we know where we get the rental car!
Very positive. After arrival in Keflavik airport we called the rental company and they came for us to the airport (and viceversa after the rental end). We were driven to their offices near airport, the car was ready and after the paperwork I checked the car and drove to explore Iceland. I have to mention the GPS included in the price and we got an upgrade from Jimny to Vitara for the same price. The car was in good shape.Ladislav • 29. Hands down the best way to see Iceland is with your own car. Northbound was super helpful and the prices we're the best around. When we got our car they were kind enough to give us a free upgrade in vehicle. We drove half way around country and had no issues. I would use northbound again wherever they're located.James • 21. thank you for the message. Everything with our rental car was perfect. The guys from the rental company were very nice and kind. :)
We had a great experience! As we showed up to pick up our car, we were offered an even better one, because of the weather conditions. The car worked well for our trip along the coast, good for difficult terrain and snow.
As we delivered the car back to Northbound, a very kind employee offered to drive us to the city of Reykjavik and helped us out with storrage of our luggage, as we had a flight later on.
A very good experience, and we would recommend Northbound anytime to others including ourselves renting a car again.
Everything went very smooth. When we arrived they were already waiting for us. After a short drive we arrived at the rental location. Within 10 minutes everything was arranged and we were ready to go.David • 19. Apr 2017 Rented a Suzuki Jimny from Icerental 4x4 in April 2017

The car we rented from Northbound was great. Our only complaint was that it was locked in 4WD mode, as it was explained to us that previous clients had caused accidents by forgetting to use it appropriately. However, we found that driving the car whilst locked in 4WD mode in the city, proved quite frustrating, as the car was difficult to drive, especially when reversing.
We found the central Reykjavik office difficult to locate, but the staff were very helpful & had been trying to contact us while we were looking for them, but we didn't hear the phone.
Great car rental prices & good customer service. I would recommend Northbound to other travellers for car rental in Iceland.
Overall experience was positive, the staff was extremely friendly and the process of rental and drop off wen smoothly. Our main concerned was with the maintenance of our vehicle, the front wheels had a lot of shaking and small pot holes would cause the vehicle to veer from side to side. This started from the moment we picked up the vehicle. We understand that we chose an older less expensive rental, but vehicle safety should still be high priority. Other than that I would recommend the service we received to friends and other travelers.Nicholas • 27. Feb 2017 Rented a Suzuki Jimny from Icerental 4x4 in February 2017
Everything works very good. The only thing, I would prefer, is the possibility to get money back for the service we didn't use (and I notice via mail during the booking), that we have brought the car back ourselves to the station in Kevlavik. But everthing else, changes a.s.o works easy.Tatjana • 10. Jun 2017 Rented a Suzuki Jimny from Icerental 4x4 in May 2017
Icerental 4x4 met us at the airport and drove us a short distance to their office where we collected the car. I was given some advice about driving on the F roads which was extremely useful. The car served our purposes, however, next time I would opt for a newer model if using the F roads a lot as it was an uncomfortable drive with the suspension.Donya • 24. In general we made a good experience. The stuff was really helpful and friendly and if we had problems or questions they did their best to help us. But regarding the insurance we have to criticize that tires aren't included. We had 3 flat tires which isn't surprising regarding the roads. When taking an insurance we expect that damage like flat tires are included as this are signs of wear and common problems when the roads aren't tared.Joanne • 11. Fist we had to wait for the shuttle. The car had a few damages but it works. Folding/Unfolding the back seat doesn't work any more, so we had little problems with our bagage. We had no water for our front shield, so we were happy for the rain.Elvira • 17. Sep 2017 Rented a Suzuki Jimny from Icerental 4x4 in August 2017
Everything worked well. But I received a Suzuki Vitara, which was fine as it was a larger Jeep.
Icerental 4x4 charged us 99.651 ISK instead of 98.651 ISK. I think it was probably by accident and I was not realizing it but it is somehow annoying.
And I was told that a flat tire is not covered by the premium insurance. That is a Little annoying too. At least it was only 3000 ISK to repair it.
Last but not least it seems that the cars are not serviced in the best way before they give the car to you. There was salt at the battery and sometimes it was pretty hard to start the car. One time I even needed help by another car with a starting cable. By the way the Motor control light was flashing all the time (Service Center told me that this is fine).
Summarized everything worked and I could drive everywhere that I want to but the mentioned issues gave me not the best feeling. Therefore I rate only with 2,5/5.
Guy who should pick us up, came over 1.5 hours too late. We've prebooked a GPS-System, but we neither got this nor a map of Iceland. The guy told us they have non of it left. He just gave us the keys and said we can bring the car back without refueling! It was 3 a.m., dark, cold and we really felt lost after a long journey!Corina • 17. 1. The plastic cap screw of the toggle in the back seat for putting down the seat is gone, I was scratched and leaved scars on my wrist by the iron part of it.
2. The 4x4 mode can not turn on! I can switch to the "4x4 mode " Evan the 4WD-L mode but the front wheels didn't rotate therefore the front didn't do anything when I was stuck in the snow for more than 3 hours... On Dec 24th...
3. The 24 hours road resceure is not reliable, when I stuck in the snow, I do call the icerental 4x4, the guy who answered the phone want me to send him where I was by text message... I can't reach him since then.
1. The guy who got to pick us up from the airport was 45 minutes late, did not call us though they had my phone number.
2. The Jimny they gave us was very old, broke down after just one day. If you would have to buy such a wreck of a car, the price would be cheaper than the lease for 2 weeks. Fortunately we were still in the Reykjavik area, they brought us a replacement within short time.
3. The replacement car was an even older big car (Nissan Xtrail), very high fuel consumption, never thoroughly cleaned inside - with one exception: the passenger seat was still wet with a brush cleaner or some other acid detergent. My wife got some severe skin inflamnation at her thighs after 2 hrs drive. We covered the seat with a plastic back and a blanket to move on. We probably could have taken legal action for physical injury.
4. Fortunately the Nissan was technically ok and brought us, sometimes over very rough roads, back to Keflavik.
5. One postive point: Friendly people, like almost everybody in Iceland.
6. 1.0 is still a very friendly rating.
Great experience with ice rental 4x4. The staff is helpful and nice & they give you all information to make your experience better. Car was clean and Yo to standard.Maria • 20. Sep 2017 Rented a Suzuki Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in September 2017

Somit alles wunderbar. The car was just what I needed. It was a bit old and had seen better days, but that suited me perfectly as I drove it on the central highland dirt roads. the cars were a little old, but the performances of the car and icerental were very good.

It was great, friendly and everything went well. The car we rented was a Nissan Patrol 2008. The car stays strong and without any breakdowns through the whole 10 days journey.
I would recommend Northbound.is in any case. The rental Company in our case was Icerental 4x4 and they did a very good Job.
We have rented 2017 Dacia Duster for 17 days. The car was as advertised, about 7000 km on the odometer, to which we have added another 3500. The guy from Icerental4x4 has waited for us in the airport, took us in the van to their office, explained the insurance conditions etc, and that was it. The on-board navigation in the car was not very suitable for Iceland, as it did not know many places we wanted to visit by their name. We had to look up the place on the map, and then set it as destination. When returning the car, the navigation did not even know the address of the Icerental4x4 office :-). We had no problems when returning the car either - the guy from Icerental4x4 just quickly overlooked the car, and took us in the van to the airport.Jan • 01. Iceland 4x4 rental rocks! they were nice, kind and made the whole process really easy and at the best price. The GPS included was key!! The Rav 4 was great for camping, and all the roads and adventures we took! It was also big enough for both of us to sleep in on the super rainy days when I couldn't bear to put up the tent in the rain! The customer service was great! (And I am really picky!)Mark • 29. I was very happy with service provided by Northbound & Icerental 4x4. We decided last-minute to visit Iceland and very few sites had vehicles available (we booked one week before our trip). Given the timing, the price offered for a 4x4 rental was very competitive.
On our second-to-last day we got a flat tire on a gravel road in the middle of nowhere. I was VERY thankful that the spare tire was in good shape, but prepared myself for a large bill at the end of the trip (previous car rental experiences have taught me this sort of thing can be quite expensive). However, when we returned the car, we were told there would be no additional charge for the flat tire! I certainly would not have gotten this type of service from a larger rental company.
Thanks for the great customer service - it made for a great finish to a great trip.
The car was excellent, coped with all the off road driving we needed to do, and made our journey round Iceland much more exciting. The service was great, we were picked up at the airport and taken to the car where we were taken through how to use the car and the general Icelandic rules of the road.
I would definitely use Icerental 4x4 again.
Our general experience was very good.
-) The car was not very well cleaned inside and there was quite a strong cigarette smell in the car (probably from the previous tenant)
-) There was no gps in the car (but that was not really a big problem, because we had our own smartphones)
-) Customer Service and Support were excellent! We had a few questions and an employee was always available on the phone. When our car broke down, we got a new car within 3 hours and everything worked very well!
In summary I can say that we were very satisfied with Icerental 4x4. Although there were some minor Minus-Points, the most important thing to us was the good service from Icerental 4x4. And we did not really care that much about the smell in the car for example.
We would definitely rent a car from them again!

We were completely satisfied renting Suzuki Vitara from this company. No problems with booking or later changing the reservation. When we arrived at midnight, they picked us up at the airport in Keflavík, vehicle was prepared and in good shape. Nothing went wrong with the car, even though we did 3300 kms in 10 days throughout the island, crossed few rivers and even drove up to Askja. In the end we returned the vehicle at 22:00 and got a ride to the airport without any problem, just like at the beginning. We could totally recommend both the car and the company.Ondřej • 18. The car was fantastic and we did not have any issue with it. It was easy to drive, handed well, and was great off-roading. the roof tent was very comfortable and easily slept my brother and me. Coming from the United States, it made planning a lot easier knowing I would not have to worry about the camping equipment. All the camping equipment that was included in the rental was in great condition, worked well, and it made camping easy.
It was my first time renting a car, and the Icerental 4x4 made the process easy and efficient. There employees were friendly, knowledgeable, and answered every question I had. I was especially impressed with there customer service. They responded to inquiries and emails quickly, and made sure we were getting the right car for the type of activities we wanted to do while in Iceland.
I would certainly recommend Icerental 4x4 and this car for anyone who is looking to go camping in Iceland.

I can only tell the best about Icerental 4x4. Pickup at Airport worked, it took a bit time to get the car, but they had just received it back an had to clean it. The car itself is from 2008, has more than 300,000 km, and it looks as well that old. And that is a good thing, because you don't have to be carefull on Icelands gravel roads. We were 4 persons with 4 suitcases - the trunk is built for only 3. When we returned the car in Reykjavik we were driven to the Bus station by the Manager in his private car. In general: You get more you can expect.Arne • 14. Aug 2017 Rented a Hyundai Tucson from Icerental 4x4 in July 2017

Agent in car rental company was awesome dude with sense of humor and even though they did not have a car we requested- we did receive an upgrade-4x4 car with the same price.
If i will be comming back I will definitely use it northboud again.
Our experience with northbound (IceRental4x4) was quite good as I was able to find the best prices across some major car rentals here. I got the best pricing here among the other websites I had checked. Also they were very prompt on their customer service in answering any queries. I would definitely recommend you to people in the future.
Thanks for making this a good trip.
From pick-up to drop-off, Icerental 4x4 was very professional and accommodating, plus they were the cheapest 4x4 rental I could find with a good reputation.
The Suzuki Grand Vitara that we rented for our 2 week tour of Iceland was in really good condition. We rented an older model, a 2010, because it was cheaper and were a bit nervous that it would have issues due to its age. It ran great for the 3500km we put on it, including several F roads. We found that this vehicle was not really suitable for fording most rivers on the F roads, however. So if you are looking for something you can comfortably cross rivers with, go with something with more ground clearance.
Icerental was very clear when giving us the vehicle what was covered with the insurance we purchased and what was not. When we returned the vehicle after our 2 week tour, they looked it over quickly and had us on our way to the airport within 10 minutes. No hassle.
Overall we are very pleased with Icerental 4x4 and would definitely use them again if we travel to Iceland again.
Also, our booking through Northbound was easy and hassle-free. We added a couple extra rental days just before our scheduled arrival in addition to changing our drop-off location and the customer support was excellent. They added the days and charged my credit card accordingly with basically no extra work to be done on my end.
The rental car was perfect - loved the ease of the roof tent and that the car was equipped to make it through some of the more rough side roads we went on. The only thing that would've been more helpful was knowing that the car didn't come equipped with a way to light the camping stove. Providing matches or a lighter would be nice- we had to leave the campsite to go but a lighter our first night. Other than that it was the best way to get around Iceland. Thank you!Jay • 25. Pick-up from and to airport worked very well, car was new 2017 model and brought us secure over all F-streets. Only two hints from my side: I would feel better to have a real spare tire on board instead of an tire repair set! Sharp stones may destroy the tire in such a way no reparable by a repair set! The car was bought in CZ therefore the manual was only in czech language, not a problem for me because most of the things in the car are self explanatory but might be a problem for others!Torsten • 25. We arrived at the Reykjavik airport on a Tuesday and there was a representative there waiting for us. The rental process went smoothly and we were able to rent 2 Dacia Dusters for our 7 days traveling the ring road. The experience was awesome and I highly recommend both Icerental 4x4 and the 4wd capability to anyone travelling Iceland wishing to camp and/or travel the F-roads.Eric • 20. The sleeping bags could be a bit warmer but that's the only thing that could have been better. We loved the car and the tent-on-the-roof-solution!
I had a very good rental experience with Icerental and Northbound. When I arrived all the staff were extremely friendly and the car was in excellent condition. Runar: Our flight was late by 2 hours, but we called Iceland4x4 after landing and they sent a gentleman over who was an excellent representative of their company. Drove us over to their facility and we were quickly on our way in our 2017 I30 Estate. The car was clean and the gas tank topped off. We called the company the night before as we had an early flight and wanted to let them know. Upon arrival at their facility, the attendant was a bit overwhelmed by all the returns and told us to take the car and leave it at the airport. We would definitely recommend Iceland4x4.Milton • 16. Great professionalism. Our flight arrived in Iceland 3 hours late, and there they were, waiting for us.
The vehicle was in perfect condition and gave us all the directions we needed.

Would just like to say what a great experience we had in Iceland driving around with the Nissan Patrol from Icerental 4x4. We drove the F839 to hike around at Hvalvatnsfjordour, exciting trip but on returning the Nissan Icerental noticed we had done some minor damage to the underside of the vehicle. They were relaxed about this and didn’t charge for any repairs as it was an older vehicle. Great company to hire from with friendly and informative staff, we would definitely use them again. So perhaps a tip for other tourists intending to travel on F roads - go for an older vehicle that’s already seen some action.

The employees were courteous and helpful. Registration and taking the car out was very quick and efficient. We had any problems at all during all the journey (3 weeks - 5000 km). my overall experience is very good. Thanks!!!
My experience with Icerental 4X4 was excellent from start to finish. We were picked up from the airport promptly and taken to the rental location to pick up our vehicle which took the worry out of our travels. The person who picked us up and got us started was great, friendly and ready to offer any tips and knowledge he had to answer our questions. When we arrived, we were offered a newer model, which was a great plus. We had a great experience driving through the Island. When it was time to return the vehicle, the drop off process was smooth and quick. Would absolutely recommend and use in the future.Corinne • 13. Great experience. We got the exact car we had asked for - giving us enough room for 4 with luggage. Pick up was easy - the shuttle driver called us and we told him we were delayed in baggage claim. He waited for us. Drop off was pretty easy. They did a very thorough inspection of the car upon return so make sure all dings and paint chips, etc. are noted before you leave the property. We had no problem. Friendly staff and saved quite a bit instead of going with the big name companies at the terminal.John • 13. Jun 2017 Rented a Toyota RAV4 from Icerental 4x4 in May 2017

Overall excellent experience with the Dacia Duster we rented. Only problem was that we thought the horn was broken when, in fact, we learned after the rental was over that the horn was located on the turn signal stalk, not on the steering wheel. Also, the owners manual was in a different language, so it was difficult to discern some of the warning lights and other controls. Nevertheless, it did not hinder our travel and we were very satisfied with the car and our pickup and return experience.Robert • 05. Jun 2017 Rented a Dacia Duster from Icerental 4x4 in May 2017

Thank you for all the arrangements, the car was perfect for travelling on both the tarmac and gravel tracks. We were met from our flight and transferred to office & car very smoothly. We chose Icerental 4x4 because we read good reviews and the price was considerably less than the rental companies at the airport. Overall great experience during our four days in Iceland. Representative picked us up at the airport on time and took us to the office, where the vehicle was ready to go. We opted for additional insurance that covered everything except the undercarriage, and the doors being blown off by wind. We never used the included GPS, because we had all the maps loaded to our phone in advance. Car worked great during the entire trip and they were quick getting us back to the airport when we returned. Would definitely recommend to others looking to rent during their stay!Scott • 05. We had an great experience with Icerental 4x4. Any questions I had were answered promptly by both phone and email. The car was ready and as advertised. Additionally, I've heard horror stories about car rental in Iceland. We had no issue and no hassle returning the car. I felt like I totally understood the rental process and what insurances were available to me. As an added bonus, the agent on duty when we returned the car made sure we had a speedy return back to the terminal. I highly recommend this company. If you are nervous about the company not being entirely on site at the airport, don't be. They are very prompt and easy to contact should you have an issue.Matthew • 25. Icerental 4x4 was a great choice. Competitive prices relative to other alternatives and new car models. We rented the Toyota Rav4 and it was brand new. Great choice when doing the full circle as several parts of East and North Iceland are still covered in snow and ice in April.
The only downside was the fuel consumption of the car, a bit excessive, but we felt safe all the time and in all road conditions. Free sat nav included in the price and unlimited km.
We were due to be picked up from the airport at 10 am by a Icerental agent, 10 came and went and no one from Icerental showed up, 11 am came and went still no show. Finally an agent from Icerental turned up at the airport, when I spoke to him I found out that he was not here to pick us up but a different family and he did not have room in his van for both parties and would have to come back for us. At 11-30 am a different icerental agent turned up to take use to pickup our car. An hour and a half after our due pickup time. The Suzuki was not the best looking car I have rented and had a number of battle scars from the Iceland roads already. However we accepted the car as it was, The staff at Icerental were very friendly and we set of on our Iceland adventure. After the first day we had only been travelling along Route 1 and a small sections of the plastic trim from the bottom of the wing had fallen of the car. We also discovered that the hand brake was not very good and the car had to be parked in gear to stop it rolling away. This is not the end of the sorry tail, on the Friday we drove to the Snaefellsjokull Nation park to see the Lava cave. On our return the clutch on the car totally failed just outside Arnarstapi and we were stranded for 3 hours on the side of the road until Icerental could bring us a replacement car. I appreciate the 3 hours is the time it takes to drive from Reykjayvik to our location, The guy who brought the new car a Hyundai 4x4 Automatic was again a very friendly chap and we were once more on our way. The Hyundai was a much nicer car than the Suzuki we drove back to our apartment in Reykjayvik no problems. Parked the car outside our apartment when I opened the drivers door to get out of the Hyundai a large section of trim fell of the door, we all just looked in disbelief and the end of a perfect day. In conclusion I found the staff at Icerental to be very friendly, but I feel that the quality of their cars let them down badly, I don't think I will be using them again.Nigel • 18. We had the BEST experience with Northbound. For starters, the staff at the car pickup were friendly, helpful, and honest. They were there to pick us up at the airport when we arrived and drive us to the car rental facility (quick drive) which was so appreciated after our long flight. It is such a pain when you have to call the company and wait for them to arrive, so it was great that they were already there when we landed. The check-in process was easy too. Additionally, the car came with a GPS, which was included in the already low price so that was awesome as well. We rented an SUV and had no problems with it at all, even in cases of high wind and a little snow/sleet. The car handled smoothly and we felt safe for the entire week. I would choose Northbound over any other car rental company one million times over, and I will definitely be recommending it to all of my friends and family that plan to visit Iceland in the future.Alyssa • 18. Icerental was the cheapest option I found for an SUV for Iceland and they were so easy to deal with. They were communicative when I had questions about the rental and the vehicle itself, responding within 24 hours and sometimes even within the hour.
We had a great experience - from when they picked us up from the airport, to our vehicle pick up process all the way to returning the vehicle.
We had absolutely no issues and I would go with Icerental 4x4 again if I were to go back to Iceland.
We had a new Toyota RAV4 and it was absolutely brilliant, really nice to drive and very economical. There were 4 of us travelling and we each had a large suitcase and a rucksack, this vehicle easily fitted all of our luggage in and had room to spare. We did half of the island from south west to south east, drove on non tarmac roads and also drove up a mountain track - the RAV4 handled really well and we all felt safe. The chap at Icerental was very helpful and even pointed out some slight damage to the wheel trim before we set off and advised us to take photos all around the car. I would definitely use Icerental again, they met us at the airport and dropped us back there too, all super convenient.Donna • 13. Apr 2017 Rented a Toyota RAV4 from Icerental 4x4 in April 2017

The car was great for the conditions. We had a stressful 10 minutes when we couldn't start the car after stopping at a remote site. However eventually we wiggled the steering wheel and all was well!!! The airport pickup guy was very personable, the office guy helpful. We were initially worried that we were not going to be picked up at the airport; we waited for 30-40 minutes. It seemed longer until one of the other firms' pickup guys told us he had seen your guy earlier and that probably he would be returning for us after he had delivered a full load. It would have been better if these pickup arrangements could have been clarified for us beforehand. Also the office had run out of maps. Even though we had a GPS, we needed to know the rough outline of where we were travelling. It was good to be able to drop the car off at the airport parking lot since we had an early flight. We did misjudge how long that trip is between Reykjavik centre and the airport !!!! Close call!! Maybe customers would appreciate being told that somewhere in your information kit.Lynn • 08. This was the first time I have ever rented a vehicle, and the whole process was great.
From the whole rental process online to the pickup to the return, everything went smoothly and better than I could have ever imagined.
I basically looked for a 4x4 fit for four adults. And found this Suzuki Vitara. I also saw that this was the cheapest site I could find for it.
When I landed at the airport, there was a person waiting at the arrivals with a sign that said "Icerental 4x4". He drove us and another party to their car rental station at 4 AM.
It took only about 30 minutes for us to get the vehicle because there was one other party there before us picking up a car.
We signed some papers and got the keys and got the car. The car had some minor damages. Dents/scratches/missing fog light/small crack in window. However, everything else was great. We didn't have any issues except for the radar sensors (the thing where the car beeps to tell you how close you are to the front or rear). At some point .... it actually malfunctioned on a single pass bridge and automatically braked. I am not sure how safe it is in that sense ....
The car came free with a gps and a rear view camera. It did very well driving through the snow and gravel roads.
The trunk was fairly large. It fit 4 suitcases and 4 backpacks.
My only issue with the car was the faulty radar sensors and the color wasn't that appealing. In addition, the windows did not seem to be sealed tightly. There seemed to be wind coming in through the back windows although they were shut.
The return process was very smooth. We drove the vehicle back to the place we picked it up, and the car was quickly inspected. Since our suitcases and stuff were already in the car, they simply drove us to the airport in the car so we didn't have to move everything to the shuttle.
It was an awesome trip! I do not regret choosing the Suzuki Vitara. It was great for the price we paid (~$700 USD for 10 days for 4 people)
We were met on time for our flight and we were taken straight to the office. No hard selling for 'extras' and we were handed the keys without any fuss. We were offered any help we wanted with the car and then allowed on our way.
No issues at all with the vehicle and happy that we would have been given help if needed if anything had gone wrong.
Unusually offered a Sat Nav without extra cost which was a bonus.
We used Enterprise last time and would recommend using this company instead. Happy customers, thanks!
Northbound was easily the most economical option available for 4X4 vehicles. We picked up our Suzuki Gran Vitara in Reykjavik (Ice Rental 4X4) at 8am and were pleasantly surprised when we were upgraded to a 2016 model. It was a two member team in the Reykjavik office that we interacted with and they explained everything to us clearly. They told us about possible problems we may face on the road and how to seal with them. This was my first time driving in snow, so I had many questions which they patiently answered. The car itself was wonderful - We had no issues at all and loved every minute of the drive across the Golden circle and South Iceland. We were instructed to leave the car at the Reykjavik airport when we left. The entire process was made extremely simple by Northbound and Ice Rental 4X4. I would definitely recommend Northbound and Ice Rental. We fell in love with Iceland and we had a wonderful car to drive around this beautiful country.Rohan • 03. The car was in excellent condition (except that the child lock on one door was jammed, so it could only be opened from the outside), and performed perfectly. Dealing with pickup and drop-off was very easy - but when you pick it up, record the location of the agency; the GPS doesn't know the street it's on, so finding your way back without a landmark is a little difficult (we had to resort to Google Maps on a phone).Scott • 03. The staff were great, so helpful and the service was fantastic.
I would definitely recommend Northbound again and what's even better is they were cheaper than their competetors.
Lovely bunch of people. Thanks Northbound!
Very good experience.
People at Icerental 4x4 are very professionals. They gave us some important hints that save us time and money. No problem with the car, on every surface.
Our car rental experience with Iceland 4x4 was overall outstanding. All aspects regarding our rental went off without a hitch-we were picked up on time , the car was exactly as booked and performed great (glad we had 4 wheel drive and studded tires for the snow and ice we encountered). Drop off went well- a little hectic as a number of customers were returning at the same time but the personnel adapted to the situation and got all of us to the airport on time-they were friendly and courteous throughout our contacts.I will rent with them again when we return to this beautiful country to explore the other half of the island we missed on this trip.
Only down side was the rental pick up and drop off facility was a little rough and spartan in condition but if this keeps the rental price down I'll live with it.
Happy I chose booking through Northbound-great website for price comparison, enjoyed the informative and entertaining blog and Iceland 101 Handbook.Northbound had good reviews, good pricing, and seemed trustworthy but ultimately I'm glad I chose Northbound because their support and response time to any question I had was outstanding.
I booked the car rental through Northbound. They provided the great services and response to my questions so quick. I was very happy with the vehicle and the service I received from Icerental 4x4 via Northbound.
The Duster was a great choice, and we buzzed all over with very little trouble. We had a little trouble, understanding where to connect at the airport when we landed (was the middle of the night to our bodies) but after understanding where the meeting place is-- they came promptly and we had no trouble after that. The guys are friendly, and helpful. It's a good, solid company that do what they say they will do. We bought the extra insurance- which I recommend. We loved the vehicle, and had no troubles. I would do it all over again the same way.
We were a group of 12 people and rented 3 Dacia Dusters. The cars were new and totally in line with their descriptions by the Co.
We received an excellent support from Runar Thor even when we were still planning our journey, and would like to thank him dearly for all the efforts he put into making sure our trip went smoothly. Thanks for this!
Everyone on staff was very congenial and professional - took care of us even though our plane had a flat and came in late. The vehicle was perfect. Small SUV crossover brand new with great STUDDED winter tires. We were there in February so still winter and did have some icy patches but didn't have any problems.Brooke • 16. Enough space at the back, no transmission bump in the middle, rear seats recline. Picked up and dropped at the airport as promised. Would recommend to others.Vladimirs • 14. Overall, we had a great experience using Northbound for our vehicle rental during our visit to Iceland. The price was comparably the best we could find while still providing all of the protections and amenities we needed. The rental process with Icerental 4x4 was smooth. They picked us up at the airport and delivered us to their facility in Keflavik, walked us through the checkout process and gave us some excellent driving tips. When we returned the vehicle, the process was just as smooth and we were delivered to the airport without any hassle.Brian • 13. Mar 2017 Rented a Suzuki Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in February 2017
Icerental 4x4 has a great customer service and we got an all time reliable car!
No problems at all and everything for a great price.
Absolutely perfect. Great communication, really friendly, very professional, brilliant car. Best car rental company i've ever experienced. Highly recommended.Matthew • 10. Mar 2017 Rented a Dacia Duster from Icerental 4x4 in February 2017
Very good service, we happened to be collecting the car on Sunday 26th Feb when 50 cm of snow had fallen overnight.
Icerental called and collected us from the hotel, they had dug the Vitara out of the show and warmed it up.
We ventured off and had no issues despite the extreme conditions.
All round excellent service and the vehicle was very good even on the icy/snowy roads.
Our experience with Icerental 4x4 and Northbound was superb! Before I even got to Iceland I had to make some changes to the reservation and they were on it immediately, very respnsive to my needs! Once I arrived in Reykjavik, the staff were very helpful, there to pick me up at the airport and take me to the office, right away. They were friendly and knowledgable with any questions, and the car was excellent. We drove the Ring Road in winter and though people don't recommend it, it was smooth sailing in the Vitara. Thanks guys!Adam • 07. Mar 2017 Rented a Suzuki Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in February 2017
I had a great experience with Northbound and Icerental. The gentleman was not at the airport exit because he had to drive another customer, but when I called he assured me he would be right back (it took him only about 10 minutes to arrive). Very prompt service. The rental spot is just 5-6 minutes down the road. It was very easy to get everything signed and situated. We had rented a Dodge durango, but they did not have one so they upgraded us to a bigger Nissan Patrol with a top basket for our extra bag free of charge. It was a great experience overall and the price was fantastic. Would highly recommend and will definitely rebook with them in the future.Navid • 06. Icerental 4X4 met us at the airport as promised and following a very short transfer we were soon in our Grand Cherokee. Whilst not new the vehicle had good tyres and ran well.
We were glad to have such a vehicle on the Sunday following the highest snowfall in Iceland since 1931. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good value vehicle.
In fact my daughter is visiting in June and will book with Icerental 4x4
Everything went well from our arrival to our departure. Friendly staff, good condition vehicle, and nice price. The perfect rental choice! I hope we can return to Iceland soon. Thanks a lot, cheers!Nuno • 28. Feb 2017 Rented a Suzuki Grand Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in February 2017
It was great! It was very easy to find them at the airport. We got shuttled to their facility to pick up the car. The paperwork was fast and easy. When we returned the car, they shuttled us back to the airport. Didn't have to wait long. The car was okay. Can be better, but we did pay for that.Mai • 24. The two guys that helped us at Icerental were prompt in meeting us (even at 5am at the airport), super friendly, and all around great to work with. They were very good, the only problem was of my own doing - the door blew open in strong wind, something I should have known from experience could happen. The door was damaged, and this type of damage is not covered by insurance (something I was aware of beforehand), and it was quite expensive to fix but not as bad as I feared and the owner and staff were very sympathetic. But we warned! This type of damage is extremely common - an old trick that I'd forgotten, but is very simple to follow: In strong winds, always try to park facing the wind direction!Brynjolfur • 09. We had a great experience.
- Arrival gate greeting/airport pick up
- Short (5 minute) drive to office/hire car
- Friendly staff
- No fuss
- Information: useful driving/weather/safety/tourist tips provided
- Drop off: we could leave the car at the airport due to our early departure
- We were met at the airport arrival gates (at 1am!) and taken to the office where the car was located (5 minute drive) where we were advised on the best weather and road condition sources to use while travelling Iceland and on how to drive in snowy conditions (my first time).
- We were provided with studded snow tyres
- Our bags were loaded into the hire car for us
- Everything was quick and easy - we spent about 15 minutes at the office
- No issues with the car during our trip - the 2017 model Dacia Duster we had was fine going over 20cm deep snow and icy roads
- We needed to be at the airport at 6 am so were able to leave the car at the long term parking lot (P3)
Great customer service - all my many questions about car requirements and driving conditions in Iceland during winter were answered honestly and quickly. Also the prices are competitive.
Our experience with Northbound was excellent. The website is easy to use, and we were able to rent a 4x4 much cheaper than other global rental companies. The Suzuki provided was a very fun ride. Perfect for traveling Iceland during the winter weather! The staff were so friendly, and the customer service was superb. They offered to pick us up from our hotel, and provided great advice regarding travel spots and travel conditions. They were very easy-going with the car return, and did not charge us additional fees, though we returned the car a few hours late. I would definitely use Northbound again!Sailaja • 06. Our experience with Northbound was great! Although we had some difficulties finding the agent when we first arrived at the airport as there were so many agents from different rental companies there, it wasn't a huge issue. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and provided us with useful information for our trip as well. The car was a bit old but was surprisingly really smooth. It served us really well throughout the trip. Would definitely recommend it to others.Clarissa • 16. Dec 2016 Rented a Hyundai Tucson from Icerental 4x4 in November 2016

I was very satisfied with my Car Rental experience with Icerental 4 x 4. The booking process was very simple, they collected me from the Airport as arranged and the car was ready when I arrived at the offices a few minutes drive from Keflavik. I rented a Suzuki Vitara which was in good condition and I never had any problems with it during the 4 days of driving. I would have liked a USB port, but I guess other vehicles do have them and I should have made sure before booking.
I intend to return to Iceland in the summer of '17 and will have no hesitation in booking again from Icerental 4x4. The service was excellent from the staff who were very helpful and in my experience, I would definitely recommend them to other travellers. Thank you and I look forward to seeing you in the summer. We have spent our holidays in Iceland for nine days at the beginning of November 2016. We rented a Hyundai Tucson for eight of those days. The car was from 2008 and worked very well. We made a round-trip of about 2400 km. We could drive any road in Iceland without any problems.
Before the rental we could take pictures all around the car so that any scratch or whatever was documented. We got papers/ copies of the car conditions. When we brought the car back, they didn't even check the car. I think the reason for that is that the car was from 2008 and already had some scratches etc. We could call when we had trouble with the car. One day the car didn't want to start. There must me light switched on during the night. We called but solved the problem by ourselves. We contacted neighbours to help us. They did. Everywhere you go, you can contact the icelandic people. But we have been there in the off-season. If you go there when it is busy, it might be different.
Another advice: Do check the functions like windscreen wipers as well as scratches all around and on the roof of the car.
Overall the rental went as well as our whole iceland-trip. I highly recommend Icerental 4x4. They have the best prices and it works very well. Before our rental we read some comments and recommendations here. It helped. I hope that I can contribute to your decision.

Our first trip to Iceland was great! After arriving at the airport our first stop was to pick up our rental. Icerental 4x4 picked us up at the airport and drove us a short distance to pickup our vehicle. The Hyundai Tucson as an older vehicle but it got us around and had good gas-milage. We did a lot of driving around Reykjavik and the Golden Circle. The GPS provided came in handy but I highly recommend everyone to download the app 'maps.me' as it will NOT use your data. Neither will the provided GPS but we found the app easier to use etc. All in all, Icerental 4x4 was great. The staff were friendly and were able to answer all of our questions.Chad • 07. It was absolutly perfect. The company gave us ecery information what we had to know about the car and the driving rules in Iceland.
Well the guy was a little bit late, picking us up, but we learned later, that life not really begins before 10 am, and that time was 8 am on a monday. So no problem.
The previous user of the Suzuki lost the front plate of the car, so we only had the back plate, we were a little bit afraid about that, but the guy at the rental calmed us down, as no police cared about it. Well the was the truth.
The car was OK, it is everything that you expect from a Suzuki.
Renting with Northbound was great. They and Icerental 4x4 were very responsive and helpful in the lead up to our trip and during. It was the best price we found. All went smoothly!Nikole • 27. Sep 2016 Rented a Hyundai Tucson from Icerental 4x4 in September 2016
Icerental 4x4 was great! They didn't have the car we rented when we arrived -- instead they upgraded us to a larger, better car! It handled the few F roads we drove on fine, and felt very dependable (though the brakes were a bit squeaky).Jonathan • 24. Sep 2016 Rented a Hyundai Tucson from Icerental 4x4 in September 2016
The process of renting from Icerental was really seamless and hassle free. The friendly representative picked us up from the airport at 1 am and we were promptly handed the car with all the necessary documentation and instructions. The car was what was promised. No surprises there! On our return, it was again very smooth and hassle free and we were promptly dropped at the airport.
I would 100% recommend Icerental to anyone looking to rent a car in Iceland with maximum value for money. Also, I would recommend the highly professional Northbound for anyone looking for a one stop shop for their travel through Iceland.
Ice rental looks like to be a small and professional local car rental. I was picked up at the airport as agreed. They charged my card with the exactly amount my Northbound voucher showed. The car (manual Suzuki Vitara) was clean and new. Everything was so easy. Upon return, a quick look on the car, everything was ok and they took us to our B&B for our last night before flying out. Overall, that was a great experience renting from them. Would strongly recommend Icerental 4x4 to anyone going to Iceland.Joao Alberto • 23. We had a fantastic time with our 4x4 rental. We really appreciated being able to get onto some less travelled roads because we had a 4x4. Iceland is stunningly beautiful and there are plenty of things you will want to see around the ring road, but there are a lot of special places on the 4x4 roads as well. We also enjoyed the fact that we could camp in our car and so we didn't need to pre-book our accommodation and thus had more flexibility to stay longer when something took our fancy, or to move on more quickly when we wanted to. We appreciated that we just had a car, not a Ute with a home strapped on the back because we could drive more rapidly with confidence. We saw plenty of the other style of 4x4 camper traveling at quite slow speeds. The trade off is less space inside the car, but we were very happy with our choice. We found Northbound very pleasant to deal with and they responded very quickly when we had a minor problem with the car and had everything fixed in next to no time, even though we were on the other side of the country at the time.Sophie Plevritis • 17. My wife and I rented the Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4x4 with automatic transmission from Icerental 4x4 and Northbound. Our experience and time in Iceland in the Jeep was amazing! The car came complete with a great GPS, which helped us explore the country, and the other equipment that came was great too. We had a table and chairs for hanging out at the campsite, and all of the cooking utensils we needed for great campsite meals. Sleeping in the Jeep was actually very comfortable and warm with the sheets, pillows, and sleeping bags that came included. All of the employees we worked with at Northbound and Icerental were great to work with. We WILL be back!Michael • 16. My experience renting a car with Icerental4x4 through Northbound was absolutely perfect!! Northbound is a ver useful page where you can compare all the rental cars and prices!
I finally decided Icerental 4x4 for their price but my surprise was that not only the price was the best, also the service and car!!! They gave me a brand new Suzuki Vitara (only 2 months old, with 23,000km) whihc was just perfect: big, nice, comfortable, with incorporated GPS, bluetooth, 2 USB to charge the cellphones... The owners were also very friendly and helfulp! Upond arrival (our flight arrived very late at night) they were waiting for us to pick up the car, explained us everything abour roads and insurances, gave us some Icelandic tips and... gave us a free extra driver!!! :)
Im really very happy with our choice of using Northbound and Icerental 4x4!! I truly recommend everyone to follow my choice! ;)
We rented Suzuki Grand Vitara from northbound for 10 days. The idea was to travel complete circle around Iceland and to see as many places as we could.
The Suzuki grand vitara 4X4 that we got was almost new car(2016 model).
On the day we took the car from Runar, everything went smooth with payment. He gave us some tricks and tips.
Throughout the journey the car had no issues at all and it was very comfortable journey ( Thanks to 4X4).
Unfortunately on our way in the middle of somewhere we had flat tyre on our car. We called Runar at night , but he did picked up phone and asked him for the possible solutions. He did provide us some support to change the tyre on the field. Thanks Runar for that support and help.
Rest of the journey was super cool and we did saw some outstanding places and spots. As we went to Iceland in June, we were in car for more than 15 hours each day so having good stable car was very important.
Grand vitara served that purpose.
I highly recommend "Northbound" cars for their clear communication, clean paperwork and good support.
I would rent your car next time.
Iceland 4x4 picked us up at our hotel and took us to their office for a quick paperwork and we were on our way. We drove on various paved and unpaved roads around Reikjavik to find places to go hiking. Good experience.Allen • 17. Aug 2016 Rented a Suzuki Grand Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in July 2016
The Suzuki was great, and the staff at Icerental4x4 are first class. Much better experience than I've had at many major rental companies - which I attribute to their more start-up, entrepreneurial hustle to do the right thing. They picked up my family at KEF, drove us to their small but convenient space nearby, processed some paperwork and we were on our way. Friendly, clean and knowledgeable - and very hard working guys as well, ensuring everyone got to and from quickly. The car was virtually brand new, and worked perfectly holding all 5 members of my family (yes, in a Suzuki). Drove it all around southern Iceland with no issues. GPS was easy to use and follow. Gas mileage was also good. Highly recommend these guys.Jonathan • 13. Aug 2016 Rented a Suzuki Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in June 2016
Friendly and convenient, Northbound made it easy for us to rent a car in Iceland. It's not only easy but a good deal cheaper than using familiar US brands (e.g., Hertz or Alamo). Plus, it was fun to drive a stick shift after all these years. --Russ, Madison, WisconsinRuss • 13. Aug 2016 Rented a Suzuki Grand Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in June 2016
We had a wonderfull trip to Iceland thanks to Icerental 4x4.
With the 4x4 we experienced a wonderfull valley which wouldn't have been possible to visit with a normal car.
The service from the company was in top, and they where easy to contact with our questions.
Further more we brought our 3 kids, and to make sure of the security we rented car seats for kids also at Icerental 4x4.
We would definitely use the services at Icerental for later trips to Iceland.
Our trip around ring road was perfect! Thanks for the nice car, we could also make small detours and the bumpy roads were no problem! F-roads I would not recommend though with a small car like the Vitara. Northbounds service was 5/5 and we were very happy with everything, would recommend!Kristian • 12. We had a great time in Iceland and the car was excellent! We would definitely recommend Icerental 4x4 to anyone wanting a nice 4x4 for the whole ring road. The car was okay. It was all okay and we had no problems with the car.
We took the car in Reykyavik and it was very easy. The give back was very difficult, because the office was at the other side of the airport. That was the only negativ fact.
We were a little affraid a the arrival because we waited like 30 minutes but then everything went well, the Suzuki grand vitara was great and well equipped. The roof tent was great but its a bit cold at night. The only problem in the kitchen box was the handle of the pans which was not strong enough. Besides this everything was okFlorent • 15. We were met at the airport by our transport in a short amount of time and drove directly to the car rental office. Everything was explained to us quite clearly. We rented a Hyundai Tucson 4x4, and although it was a 2008 model it was in fine shape. While we were in Iceland we had trouble locking the car with the key fob, and with one quick phone call they remedied the situation with a new battery for the fob. They also gave us credit toward our bill for the inconvenience.
I believe Northbound has a genuine concern for customers' satisfaction and gaining a strong reputation as a reliable rental car service for the future of the their company. I would rent again from Northbound.
I had a good experience with Icerental 4x4. The company did a good job providing everything that we bought. Minor issues got in the way (just an old model Jeep Grand Cherokee that had some minor issues) but would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a ride around Iceland.Abhishek • 13. Excellent service, thanks for everything. The car was in excellent condition, easy to drive, the roof top is really a very nice way to travel in Iceland. We recommand strongly Northbound.
I chose Icerental 4x4 and Northbound because their web site was clear and easy to use and the prices were the best I could find. I did look for any negative reviews and couldn't really find any.
I have to say that I was not disappointed. The vehicle was as described, the service was great and the whole experience was seamless allowing us to focus on our adventuring and not the trip logistics. My only comment is that the web site did say that the vehicle would come with wifi (which I found someone suspicious) but it was not listed on the confirmation. When getting to the rental agency they did confirm that they used to provide wifi, but it was unreliable so they stopped doing it. I was fine as I didn't really expect it, and, frankly, being unplugged was a wonderful part of our experience.
All being said and dine, I would absolutely recommend them and would go back again.
The staff was attentive and everything worked out smoothly. One thing that could be improved would be your reception at the airport. Since you do not have a booth placed there, you should have someone standing by and waiting for your arrivals beforehand. When I arrived I had to send emails and make expensive international calls until I could reach someone to warn them that I needed to be picked up. A better pick up system would overcome that hassle.Bruno • 27. Aug 2017 Rented a Suzuki Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in August 2017

Almost everything was perfect. Easy pick up and return outside working hours. Polite managers. Very competitive prices. The only problem was with sleeping bags - these were not intended for sleeping in tent when outside temperature is around +5 C. When I red instructions on them, comfort zone of sleeping bags was around +15 C. There were some minor issues that I can even don't mention - starting from the second day drivers door was not able to close properly. Only upon car return we found out that door's lock has been unscrewed and could be fixed easily. Other minor issue is that provided gas stove should be full. We had two gas stoves, but one was almost empty, and another was not far from "almost empty". Another thing is that in the reservation there is mentioned that car can be used on F roads. Meanwhile in the car and at the front desk there were written that crossing rivers is not allowed. I haven't driven many F roads, but I assume that the mostly of them contain crossing minor rivers. Therefore it is rally confusing as river crossing contradicts to permission of driving by F roads.Ilmars • 22. Aug 2017 Rented a Dacia Duster + Roof Tent from Icerental 4x4 in August 2017
We had a great experience renting a Dacia Duster + Roof tent. The car enabled us to feel comfortable and safe, especially on F roads. The car’s headlights broke down and in next to no time the support services gave us the number of the closest garage. We did not even have to advance funds and it took less than 30 minutes to fix the headlights. The only negative point were the sleeping bags provided which were not warm enough as we had bad weather during our stay.Aurelie • 21. Great experience with the car, it was confortable and easy to drive. The sleeping bags were warm enough and pillows were really a plus ! The only bad point we could give is on the high fuel consumption and the related range indicator that wasn't really trustworthy.Amélie • 21. Overall we were very happy with the rental, the price was very reasonable for Icelandic standards (although expensive compared to elsewhere) and the car was great.
The guy at the airport location was extremely grumpy though :)
We got a manual Dacia Duster instead of automatic Grand Vitara because of timing mistake at the booking from one of the intermediate travel companies but we have been proposed a discount by Icerental for that even if the Duster was pretty similar. Vehicule and tent were clean and in good condition. The roof tent was very practical. The only weak point was the GPS: a Garmin system without screen support (broken) that was difficult to use as it didn't know most of adresses or points of interest we were looking for (we used paper-map instead).
Overall, I would recommend Northbound and Icerental4x4.
We were pleased with Icerental 4x4. The car was exactly as promised and was very nice - a late model Toyota Rav 4. Two minor items of note though 1. They were not there when we arrived at the airport and subsequently showed up 15-20 minutes late. This caused some worry since we were having trouble getting a phone call to get through to them and didn't know if/when they would arrive. 2. I thought I had signed up for a second driver but it was not on the reservation. Could have been my mistake though. They ended up adding the second driver for no charge, so that was nice of them and worked out well in the end. We were happy that we took out the rock coverage for $9 per day since we did end up getting a chipped windshield. Overall we had a wonderful trip to Iceland and would like to return as soon as we can.Paul • 18. Aug 2017 Rented a Toyota RAV4 from Icerental 4x4 in August 2017
Everything was fine. But what could be better was the start. I did not know that we had a car by Ice Rental, we thought Northbound is the company. Our friends who had also booked via Northbound had suddenly another rental company. It was also unexpected to drive with a car to another place. If we were informed earlier that this will happen it would have been better. But the rest was fine. The car suited well and we loved your country. Just amazing.
Car was clean and in good condition. Had no issue with car at all. The pick up process was also very smooth. One small suggestion/ request is to have drop off timing available 24/7 at least at the airport as most international flights have odd timings for landing and take off.Rahul • 04. Our camping trip to the northwestern fjords in Iceland was made possible by the rental of a Grand Cherokee from Ice Rental. Their staff was helpful, the pickup service at the airport was convenient, and their equipment rental of camping equipment was affordable.Robert • 01. My experience in general is correct.
But when we arrived the car we had to have was not there, and we waited for a while until we had another Tucson. The car is badly damaged but no problem, since we did a lot of secondary roads. The direction of the vehicle was wrong, when the steering wheel was placed straight, the car went to the left, that was a problem.
But the global one is good, Iceland is marvelous, land of contrasts, ice and fire, silence and tranquility, perfect, for us we made a dream we had for years, and surely we will return. First we have to save much money !!!
See you soon. Best Regards
The car pick up and return went smoothly. During our trip the tire pressure signal kept going off. A small sharp rock had lodged itself into one of the tires. When we checked the tire pressure, it was almost double what it should have been in the two rear tires. Otherwise, the car was reliable and we would rent from here again.Timotej • 29. The Suzuki was a good vehicle for Iceland, a comfortable ride but still robust enough to handle unpaved roads.
One area for improvement - when we arrived at the airport the driver was not there to meet us as expected. We had to call the office to remind them.
The Suzuki Vitara was excellent for our trip. I would recommend to change the windshield wipers since it rained a lot and they were worn out. Also, the cold setting on the air conditioner didn't work, but it wasn't that necessary. The staff at Icerental were very nice both in Reykjavik and Keflavik, making the pick up and drop off easy. We had a GPS included, but some areas weren't updated in the maps, such as the location of gas stations.Ana Lourdes • 24. Jul 2017 Rented a Suzuki Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in July 2017
It was easy to pick up and drop off even though we were picking up at midnight and returning at 4 am. Ended up with a different vehicle, but was good. Tent super easy to set up and put away. Will use again.Annette • 20. Jul 2017 Rented a Dacia Duster + Roof Tent from Icerental 4x4 in July 2017
The car was very good for what we needed it to do (i.e. Offroad tracks, consumption, ride comfort). It was spacious. I would only suggest to update the GPS maps, as many roads/places cannot be found (i heard many new roads opened recently) and we needed to use google maps to find (good timing with the roaming charges). Aside from that, the service provided was good, and car met our expectations. On a selfish note, a little more HP would have been nice as uphill it can struggles, but then i guess i should have gone for the bigger category.Julian • 18. Renting a 4x4 via northbound was very easy. We rented a Suzuki Vitara from Icerental 4x4. The agent met us in the airport arival ( He didnt show up when we showed up at the arrival hall. I had to call the office and then he said he will be there in 5 minutes ). He arrived after 5-10 minutes and took us to their Keflavik office which is only 5 minutes away from the airport. After a few minutes of paperwork we were on our way. The rental experience was very satisfactory. We didnt have any trouble with the car. We got a Vitara which had about 80000 km on it. But the car did well. We took it to some F roads and other gravel roads and it performed really well. I would highly recommend renting a 4x4 in Iceland. On our return, we returned the car to their Keflavik office and they gave us a ride to the airport in their van. I would definitely rent again through Northbound and Icerental 4x4.Danny • 14. My experience with Icerental 4x4 was great. I was worried going into it because I had read many horror stories of customers from various companies getting duped by bogus charges at the end of their trip, but everything went fine with Icerental 4x4. For new customers, I would recommend purchasing all of the insurances, as Iceland has some pretty unforgiving terrain.Garrett • 04. We had a booking problem at arrival, but your reaction was efficient and you delivered the second car in due time.
The second car was old but nevertheless confortable.
Perfect for the first car.
Your welcome was also perfect
Pick up and drop off was good except we had to wait for someone else at the airport who hadn't seen the pick-up sign that the man was holding as they came out of the airport - maybe a bigger, clearer sign may have been helpful. Car met our needs well.Chris • 13. Jun 2017 Rented a Suzuki Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in May 2017
Service was good and Hyundai was working perfect! No problems with the car in our trip driving around 450 kms! Even the car was not new and had a lot of kms we didnt have problems!
suggestions could be to check water for windows as was empty and also the fuel tank door was a little difficult to open! And will be good idea to have map route in the car and give advise about to have full tank when leaving from Reykjavik as there are no so many fuel stations on the road!
Everything went without a hitch. The vehicle we requested was not available, so we were slightly upgraded with no extra charge, although as a result, the vehicle's fuel consumption was a bit higher than anticipated. The car and equipment was in good condition and did not fail us during the trip around the ring road. No complaints !Simon • 22. Easy pick up by agent at airport and transport to get vehicle, which comfortably fit our 6 adults and luggage. General experience good.
Only suggestion for your company would be to check flight status for arrivals in order that people are met at the airport as our flight was delayed & no one was there to meet us.
If NL COMPANY had not called we would have been in a pickle as we had no cell phone to call. Otherwise no other concerns!
Pleasant helpful people and overall pleased with car, but a few things to mention, the sat nav didn't work and the car wasn't in excellent condition, but was fine for what we used it for which was exploring.Sarah • 25. Apr 2017 Rented a Suzuki Grand Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in April 2017

One small issue with the car (rear windshield wiper was broken), but it was great otherwise.
Overall the service was decent. But I would recommend anyone who looking for a car to rent newer models. Iceland roads (especially in winter) can be slippery.Nontakarn • 05. Mar 2017 Rented a Suzuki Grand Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in February 2017
On our recent trip to Iceland, we rented a Suzuki Vitara, despite some concerns about driving in Iceland in the winter. The car got us around safely and comfortable, even during a tense bit of driving through a snowstorm. The staff were friendly and helpful upon pick-up and drop-off. My only suggestion is to put a large sign outside the rental location, as we had trouble finding it when we brought the car back. Thanks for helping us have a wonderful trip in Iceland!Lauren • 03. Excellent. Vehicle was precisely as advertised and was in good condition, handled roads well. Our drop off was very efficient and we waited 0 time to be transferred back to the airport. Unfortunately our pickup was approximately 1 hour later than we had requested however the company was apologetic and made it right by us. We were able to decline CDW as we had been told by northbound that we could so that we could use insurance through our visa. Our questions on the northbound website were answered promptly by a real person.Christopher • 27. Feb 2017 Rented a Suzuki Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in February 2017
Very good, one I was able to speak to them and ask them to collect us from the airport. The car itself was all that we expected given we had rented a 2008 car. There were one or two problems with it which we reported back to Iceland 4 x 4 - the brake light kept coming on and then going off, there was no working rear windscreen wiper and the sat nag would not always connect in the car - at times the passenger had to sit and hold it! However, these were minor niggles from persons who normally drive the latest Land Rover 4 x 4's!Caroline • 27. Feb 2017 Rented a Hyundai Tucson from Icerental 4x4 in February 2017
My boyfriend and I loved the car. It was the perfect size and came fully equiped for our needs. We found out late that there was a windshield ice scraper in the car, but we only needed it for one day and borrowed one from our bed and breakfast. I especially liked the winter tires which made us feel more safe. The only thing we found a slight issue if you could even call it that was when we ran out of windshield wiper fluid. We use water back home and had to hunt around a bit to find some. I don't think we would have used all of it if it had been full when we picked up the rental but I just think this should be topped up like the gas before the car is used again. Thank you so much for the experience! We would definitely recommend you to others!Kirsten • 16. Feb 2017 Rented a Suzuki Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in January 2017
I really liked our Suzuki Grand Vitara (with GPS) that we rented from Icerental. A rep from the company met us at the airport and drove us to the off-site rental office and had us on our way very quickly. There was an undocumented chip in the windshield that we noticed before departing and that was quickly noted on paperwork. Returned vehicle and was immediately transported to the airport. Very easy process. Very comfortable vehicle. We needed the 4x4 in a couple of situations.Andrew • 30. Jan 2017 Rented a Suzuki Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in January 2017
Our experience with Icerental was really good. We were met at arrivals by a very relaxed man, who took us to our car. We were given an automatic, which I had never driven before, ( I had requested a manual) & the only negative thing I would say is that he didn't show me how to drive it - he left that to my husband, who had driven an automatic in the past. I'm glad I took out gravel insurance, as I had peace of mind with all the cars kicking it up around us. The cars aren't pristine, but that suited us - they're more used & 'comfortable'. Overall a very positive experience.Julie • 15. Jan 2017 Rented a Suzuki Grand Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in January 2017

Booking on Internet was pretty easy! They picked us up at the airport and we didnt had to wait, was perfect also! Arriving at the rental place, we paid what we had to pay and singt the contract. After that, Runar showed us the car, we walked around and wrote down the ''defects'' like scratches and bumps. Once we had a little problem. We could call the company and they helped us immediately. Was very good also! The only thing i have to criticize, or who you could change, is that you could have write us a mail, or sms about the returning. We arrived an the company place, the doors where open, but noone was there. After some minutes i found a letter on the window, that we can just leave the Car in a parkingarea at the airport. Maybe they did not know befor, that at this time noone would be there, can happen. Thats the only ''negative'' comment i have to make, but maybe it will help you to change it in the future. Everything else was excelent!! Thank you very much!Marcos • 07. Dec 2016 Rented a Suzuki Grand Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in November 2016

I recently rented a 4x4 from from Northbound. They picked us up from the airport and drove us a short distance to their office to sign the papers. They upgraded us with no charge. In minutes we were ready to go. All went went. The explorer was not new but in great condition. It rained solid for three days and we could have used some new windshield wipers, but all else was fine. Our flight home left at 6am which was before their office was open. They made special arrangements for us to leave the car at the airport. So cooperative and good service. Its great to support small companies. Well at the end we didnt get the Hyundai Tucson, but a Ford Escape. Its mostly in the same category.
I think a little bit better than the Tucson, in performance. It worked well all week long, make it easier than out other car (Suzuki Vitara) on hilly gravel roads. I can recommend this car to everyone.
There was only one little problem with the car, what we did not realize when we get it, that the windscreen washer tank was empty. We fixed that on our own, but that cost the 5.0 rating

We got the cars 3 hours late, got a Suzuki instead of Dacia. Our tent was leaking (not as much as our friends tent though.
One of the sleepingbags had a broken zipper.
Nice staff and really great that no deposit is needed nore an extra fee for leaving it at the airport, nice with the shuttle service !!
The rental company did as was promised: They took us from the airport to the renting offices, there we signed papers and payed the remaining amount of the deal. The car was in good condition. Clean and in good shape.
We did not need any assistance from them the entire vacation, so I cannot say anything about their customer service in the manner.
The returning of the car was efficient and quick, with no delays, Although the offices in Reykjavik are NOT easy to find...
Finally, after discovering that I left my phone in the car, I contacted the company and they searched the car and found it. They promised to send me the phone by mail, abroad. This was very pleasant! I wish the phone will arrive soon, though.. :)
We had a really nice experience with icerental4x4. We had to wait a little bit at the slightly hidden office (don't trust google maps for the location of the Reykjavík office, it failed us!), but the handover of the car worked really well. The car was in a close to perfect condition and we could take off in no time. We booked the premium insurance package, which was a wise choice, because in the last 3 days of our trip we had two big damages to the front screen due to thrown up gravel from passing cars.
There were two things that were a bit upsetting- our Dacia Duster with roof tent was supposed to have a cooking stove and 2 sleeping bags. The cooking stove did not fit the gas container, that was included, which we only noticed once we were shopping and hungry at our camping ground far away from the next petrol station. And we expected sleeping bags suitable for Icelandic weather- but the sleeping bags were really cheaply produced and not suitable for the degrees of summer nights in Iceland. We had to purchase 2 sleeping bags ourselves to be able to sleep at night and not freeze to death. But besides those inconveniences we were really happy with the service and the car and were able to have a really nice trip through this amazing country.
AC didn't work. Vehicle gas mileage was terrible. I get better mileage in my full size truck. Fuel tank read inaccurate when full. Vehicle was old but I guess the advantage is they are cheaper, which is good.Michael • 05. Sep 2017 Rented a Hyundai Tucson from Icerental 4x4 in August 2017
The car was very nice with moderate fuel consumption, though the limit of suspension was felt on gravel roads. The only problem was that we had to wait at the airport quite long time (maybe one hour), and it was difficult to contact the company as we did not have the sim card yet. We could have internet access at the airport, so it would have been nice if Icerental4x4 wrote us an E-mail if their were on delay for any reason so that we do not have to worry to much.Yoshiharu • 02. I would say everything very good, except for pick up at the airport: we have been waiting for the personnel for 45 minutes and finally got the car about 1 hour and a half after landing. Definitely too much time at 01 am with two children and 45 km to drive to reach our hotel in Reykjavik.
Dacia Duster perfect for the Job.
Good service. Only thing I'd point out is that our car had an engine light on and cruise control was not working. Other than that everything worked as expected.Vinay • 27. Aug 2017 Rented a Suzuki Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in August 2017
The service was good.
The car was a little dirty, dented, old, but it worked perfectly in road and offroad.
My suggestion is to check the car carefully before the rent, and take note of all bodywork defects
(+) Good service, good feedback when starting our trip. Early open (5h30), even when we were flying back early.
(+/-) Good link between airport and rental place, but location at the airport itself would (evidently) be better.
(-) The car had more than 130.000 km. I rented cars in several countries, and I never had a car of that age. I was a bit anxious that eventual damages to the car, due to elderness, would be claimed from me as being the consequence of our driving (but this was fortunately not the case).
I would recommend to rent more new cars.
We book our 4x4 rental-car on the website from Northbound because it was easily to choose a fitting car on this site. Furthermore I need a 4x4 car, because we want to go into the highlands. Another reason was the size we need, because we are a familiy of 6 persons with 6 peaces of luggage. Northbound offers a FORD EXPEDITION, which works the 16 days very well.
We like the shuttle-service from the airport and vice versa. All this service was very good for us and was just in time.
The reasons why I gave only an rating of 4,0 instead of 5,0 are
a) the offered car was an older one and not very tidy
b) when we return the car we get no acknowledgment or receipt
In total I can recommend the company fully and - if I will be again in iceland - I would rent a car from Northbound again.
General esperience was good. Grand vitara doors were a little noisy. Cooking box were not very clean and the stove a little bit unstable. But generally we were fine.Laura • 13. Aug 2017 Rented a Dacia Duster + Roof Tent from Icerental 4x4 in July 2017
The only issue is that the Reykjavik office can be difficult to find; a search on google maps puts it about 200 meters off and streetnumbers are not very clear. Also the 'airport' office is not actually on the airport, but on an industrial estate 10mins away (but the transfer is included and speedy).
During the two week rental we got locked out of our car as the keyfob failed overnight, and the physical key did not work. Icerental eventually send someone around, who then proceeded to break into the car using the classic wire trick. It was all a bit bodgy, and cost us about 5 hours, but they refunded us a full day at the end without hesitation. Also we had to top up the oil midway, but this was refunded at the end of the rental.
Overall a good experience, the car was high on mileage but clean and comfortable, and the people quick to help out and polite.
Very uncomplicated and customer-friendly company!
Only downside was waiting for almost an hour to be picked up at the airport.
We had the Vitara 2016 model rental from Northbound website and the company actually call Icerental 4x4, customers need to take 15-20mins to their parking center to pick up the car, which i guess this is the reason for the company to offer lower price from the another rental company; the car was good and new, GPS system is good enough, We drove tho the whole Iceland for two weeks, no problem at all, if you asking me for improvement, it will be great if we can have full tank when we pick up the car, and pick up customer on time at the airport, all at experience is cool.Wai Kin Kim • 02. We rented via northbound Suzuki Vitara with Icerental 4x4 . At first, we received a car that behaved strangely with some weird non-regular disturbing and ongoing noise from the back wheels part. After a few minutes, we decided to return to Icerental 4x4 and request other car. The staff checked the first car and admitted it was truly not in the shape to be rented. Promptly, we got another suzuki vitara instead. The second one was in better shape but window rubber was quite off. Therefore, it was challenging to put the doors window glass easily down and up again - only when being parked and with assistance of another person outside the car. On the other hand, it was only a minor and bearable issue. I understand that July is high season and rentals are extremely busy, but I would expect better maintenance level and service check before the keys are given to a tenant.Petr • 27. Merci.Julia • 27. Very good. The gravel insurance was definitely a good advice. The car was a little bit old but very reliable. The fuel consumption was high and in Iceland it turns to high a cost. I would advise to take this car over Dacia Duster or Suzuki for F Roads. We had a smooth trip thanks to it.Carrie • 12. Jul 2017 Rented a Jeep Grand Cherokee from Icerental 4x4 in July 2017
The car was adequate for our purposes (i.e., mainly the Ring Road, with only a small amount of low-speed gravel roads including the last unpaved section of the Ring Road). I was happy to have a manual drive to gear down for the 12% downgrades occasionally encountered! The car handled well. It is a bit underpowered for climbing some of the grades (paved roads, 90 km/h limit), and I was only able to maintain speed (e.g., 70 km/h) by gearing down to fourth or even third. If you are going to travel anything more difficult, I suggest a car with larger tires and greater clearance (I crept along one gravel road about 8 km to reach our accommodation, and did not have any problems by steering around the dips). Does the Vitara have daytime running lights? I was unable to tell (and I hope it does have such lights).
A big recommendation to rental companies would be to provide a basic guide to some important and different rules of the road (e.g., explain: two-laned traffic circles; no right turns on red lights; single-lane bridges, righthand pull-bys; etc.)
Also, the GPS worked well, but we couldn't figure out how to permanently turn the radio off (we kept having to mute it), and how to increase the volume on the GPS.
Overall, for our trip the Vitara was satisfactory.
The car did its job and got us where we needed to go, however it had some issues when automatically turning off and then accelerating. Overall the car rental was a good experience, and very helpful to have the GPSElida • 30. Jun 2017 Rented a Suzuki Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in June 2017
The vehicle was good. We didn't have any trouble with it, it performed well for what we needed it. We didn't really do anything radical with it, kept mostly to made roads. We had some snow and slush on the roads and the tyres performed quite well. The interior could have been a little cleaner when we picked it up, but it was warm inside at least.Lucas • 27. The Employees were really nice and easy to speak with. Transport was fast and on time. The car was ok, but the wiper on the back was missing, which was annoying, because if its raining a lot you are not able to see anything in the back!Lara • 13. Our general view was good. There could though be more information on how the car is picked up from the airport. The person coming to take us to the car rental place had already picked up another group and we had to wait at the airport. If possible, the person meeting the customers could wait everyone. Alternatively if there are bigger groups renting a car, there should be more personnel coming to meet them.Isa • 06. Jun 2017 Rented a Hyundai Tucson from Icerental 4x4 in May 2017
Runar from Northbound was extremely helpful and answered all our many questions as we looked to prepare for my first trip to Iceland. The gentleman who met us from iceland 4x4 to give us a shuttle ride rise to get our car was about 45 minutes later than our pickup time, but that ended up not being a big deal to our schedule . Friendly guys and overall the experience was great and would recommend. Highly recommend taking pictures of your vehicle beforehand because we found that there was one small piece of metal that was bent on the side of the car that they asked us about after we turned the car in and we saw in the pictures that it was there before.Lindsay • 30. The car was fine! A few times we had issues with starting the car.. but this was not a big problem for us! You just had to try a few times ;) We dropped of the car in the Reykjavik Office. Nobody was there but when we picked up the car they told us that we can leave the key in a box at the office entrance. So all in all we were satisfied and we would rent a car again :)Stefanie • 11. Shuttle bus from and to the airport was really convenient. The rental process was quick and easy, but also made me feel a little nervous. No one inspected the car with us before I drove off, unless they take pictures of the car after every customer. I was afraid I would be blamed for something. The car made it through, but there was a check engine light, the driver door didn't close properly, some windows didn't work, and something kept making a noise. Overall the rental experience was fast and easy, but I didn't have peace of mind driving this particular car it was the cheapest though! Still very grateful.Jennifer • 03. Hi, as it happened we were given a regular, not Grand, Vitara as arranged. Wondering now if some money should have come off the bill? Guys at the office were great, car was fine and was good to have after the giant snow dump on Feb 25-6.
The staff at Icerental 4x4 are friendly, helpful and prompt with the airport pickups. I hired a Nissan Patrol 2008 model. We traveled quite some distance in the car, with 7 people it was ok albeit a little cramped and we had to use the roof box for 2 items of luggage. The winter tyres were in good condition and we need most days. The only criticism with the car is that the steering head some play in it, which, made driving a little challenging in high winds. Other than that every thing was great and I would use these again. Many thanks to the staff at Icerental 4x4 for a great holiday experience.Robert • 06. The staff from Icerental 4x4 was extremely helpful and arrived promptly at the airport to pick us up and take us to the rental vehicle. We were given helpful pointers and headed out to explore Iceland. The Dodge Durango had a few issues but for the most part was a nice big solid 4x4. To note for repairs: None of the interior lights work and the drivers seatbelt is very difficult to latch. Also, one of the back up lights is out and the windshield wipers desperately need changed.Lorin • 23. Feb 2017 Rented a Dodge Durango from Icerental 4x4 in February 2017
The overall experience was good. There were however two minor things that were a bit uncomfortable. First of all, despite the fact that I had requested two baby –seats none was available for the shuttle from the airport to pick-up point and we had to drive with the babies on our laps. Secondly, once we picked up the car we were told that it has to operate constantly on 4X4 for our safety and they were right but it would be good to have known it in advance so as to estimate the respective cost. The car was in a good condition (not perfect) and the personnel were polite.Christina • 17. Feb 2017 Rented a Dodge Durango from Icerental 4x4 in February 2017

The general experience was very good. Your employees are generally very friendly. The only issue I would like to raise is that the entrance of your warehouse is not very clearly labelled. On the day we dropped the car off there was heavy snow and it took us way too long to find your car rental place. Other than that no complaints in terms of the car.Demet • 04. Hey. It was OK, BUT you have to control the car - here i think about the cleaner of the front and back window (i do not know the right word, but i think you know. I was the driver, and i could not see much through the window. It can be dangerous - special when it is dark and raining. That was all. Have a good Christmas.Per • 01. Nice rental. Very good contact with Icerental 4X4. Not the most recent Suzuki Gran Vitara but it was still pretty good. We couldn't make real high mountains roads but it helped several times during harsh weather conditions, on other minor roads with some holes and several times also when we used F-roads, even if it was not for long distances...
Company chosen because it seemed really reliable.
Had a great holiday and the car was fine. I haven't got too much experience in 4x4 driving, it would be nice if you provided a short demo on how best to manage the car through tough terrain but other than that we found it comfortableBen • 04. The people from Icerental 4x4 were uncomplicated and gentle. Sadly we had a little problem with the lock of our drivers-door, wich was fixed very experimentally and took much of our first day on Iceland to get fixed. A good thing was that we got a reimbursement of that first day without a big discussion. Another thing you could criticize was the mold on the backside of the mattress, because there was no lath floor to enable the air to circulate under the mattress.
Sadly the cruise control didn't work and there was no auxiliar heating system as was stated online when we did our reservation.
great car in good shape, hotel pickup worked fine, everything was done fast.
Unfortunately, at the agreed return-time was no-one at the office, so we just dropped our keys.
The car was old and well used but clean and reliable. The only gripe is the price they charge to ferry customers to and from the airport it felt a bit steep.Noel • 07. Oct 2016 Rented a Suzuki Grand Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in September 2016
Our experience was great! The car was brand new, well equipped and really good even in F roads! The guy of Icerental 4x4 has been really kind he explained us everything we needed to know about the car and so. Also I have to say that I was very happy with chat service of northbound; they reply promptly and they were always very clear.
Only two things to remark related to pick-up and return car procedure:
- pick-up at the airport (near the airport actually) took a little longer than expected (we had to wait in the arrival hall almost an hour) but ok I understand that it was because of the high season;
- about the return, we had to bring the car to Icerental office despite in our booking were indicated that they would picked up the car from any location in the Reykjavík area. However we agreed that somebody would take us to our hotel once returned the car; unfortunately there was nobody at the office even if we went there before closing time, we tired to call them but nobody answered. So we put the car keys in mail box...and had a walk with our (heavy) luggage..
Dodge Durango has been a perfect car for our journey in Iceland; no problem at all even if it is not a new car. The people of the renting office were not too kind.Davide • 07. Sep 2016 Rented a Dodge Durango from Icerental 4x4 in August 2016
Northbound provided excellent service. The car was unexpectedly roomy, but the Suzuki VItara keeps on beeping no matter what, for too many reasons. I suppose the electronics are a little exagerated. The trip with it was good and it behaved quite confortably both on the paved and gravel road.Stephane • 05. Sep 2016 Rented a Suzuki Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in August 2016
It was Ok, but the car was very old and noisy, the guy didn't explais us anything about the car and we didn'd know how to change the 4x4 traction, or if it was possible. The glass inside was very dirty on the drivers side. But we end our trip without any complication so it was Ok.David • 31. Aug 2016 Rented a Jeep Grand Cherokee from Icerental 4x4 in August 2016
This may sound like a poor review but it isn't!
It was an older Patrol than we expected, we had trouble opening doors and parts of the front seat kept falling off. It's fuel economy was very poor as you would expect for this size vehicle and the general condition was not great - however, the engine was very sound and the car was a beast..... and the size met my families needs. The character of the vehicle added to our Iceland experience.
I would use this company again.
Perhaps a better map to show your location would be helpful
Alles topp soweit.
The Jeep Cherokee was great. We were very glad we rented a 4x4 as it allowed us to explore the F-roads with no issues. It was also priced quite reasonably. I recommend that you guys add a thicker mattress as there are bumps underneath that are not pleasant to sleep on - but this is a problem that's easily fixed. Glad to rent from these folks and would do it again!Ryan • 12. Aug 2016 Rented a Jeep Cherokee Customized Camper from Icerental 4x4 in June 2016
Not super impressed with them. It took awhile for our driver both to meet us at the airport and to get us back there upon our return. I didn't love the car we rented and maybe should have put more thought into my choice beforehand. It was an older vehicle and was horribly fuel inefficient. I drive a big vehicle in England and thought I was prepared for how much gas we would need, but was not. Also the tires were not fully aired up, the doors didn't shut well, the electronics in the car didn't always work, (the windows sometimes took a long time to roll up, the clock didn't work, the inside lights in the front didn't work). It seemed it might be time to retire the vehicle or charge way less for it. The steering wheel was loose. It just doesn't seem that it was maintained very well. A couple times it had a funny smell as well. I am grateful we didn't break down anywhere but I was worried a couple times that something might go wrong. In retrospect I probably should have rented a European diesel vehicle. We did enjoy going on a few F roads though.Rachel • 23. Sep 2017 Rented a Ford Expedition from Icerental 4x4 in September 2017
Things were pretty good with the pickup and dropoff. I was surprised that the insurance that I had purchased was not comprehensive, but decided not to upgrade it since I have insurance on my credit card. The car was definitely high km and quite worn (7 years on very rough roads, with some rough drivers). It was noisy, creaky, and leaked wind. Also, I had to replace the wipers while we were out on the road -- they were so bad that it was not possible to see out the window when it rained. They provided the vehicle 3/4 full of fuel, and I returned full, but no credit was offered even when requested. Not quite right...Mark • 31. It was ok. While we loved Iceland and the car made much of that possible, but, we had several problems with the car. 1) the right front window was broken and would not go down (which we didn't learn until our second day), 2) the interior windows were filthy and made viewing in the sunlight very problematic and unsafe, and 3) the audio/navigation system would restart multiple times a day while driving for no apparent reason which was an annoyance.Frank • 22. Car was a little older and some superficial damage but otherwise ran really well, no issues and was comfortable. Great little car for getting around Iceland. Super convenient to have the rooftop tent which could be set up in about 30 seconds. Kitchen box could have been a little better equipped but had the basics. Communication was easy enough with Icerental, the drop off point was a little tricky to find but the returns process was straightforward and hassle free, and they were happy to pick up and drop off at the airport at any time.Amy • 21. Unfortunately we had some issues with this rental. At first we were not met at the airport when we arrived. Our flight was 30 min late and so I'm guessing the person that was supposed to pick us up did not figure it was late and so left before we showed up in the arrivals hall. We waited for about 30 min and then called without anyone answering. Eventually we managed to get a hold of someone and we were told they had thought we missed our flight and left. I didn't receive any email about this nor did they tried to call me, no nothing. I was told I was going to be picked up in 10 minutes. After 40 minutes and another phone call we were picked up by a guy that barely spoke English. No apologies no nothing. When we arrived at the garage we had to ask about what happened and we got the explanation that the guy driving the van got held up by a group of tourists. Apparently they changed their mind about their destination so the van had to drive all over the place before getting to pick us up. Fair enough, but they never called back to us to inform us about the delay. We were tired and finally got access to our car so we just signed the papers and went on our way. When we finally stopped for the night (about 3 hours drive away) we discovered we were missing cups and means to light the gas stove. Cups was not that big of a problem but not being able to light the gas stove was quite a problem. In the remote location we were in this was tricky to fix, but we eventually managed to get hold of a used lighter that could give us the spark we need. When eventually going to be we noticed that the sleeping bags were quite used; one had sand in it and the other one seemed old and of quite poor quality. After the first night we noticed that the poor quality one was a budget sleeping bag that barely could hold the heat inside. We were promised sleeping bags that would allow you to sleep comfortable at -5 degrees, but was uncomfortable at +5 degrees. Because of this we had to purchase an expensive blanket (the only one we could find) to be comfortable sleeping. When returning the car we expressed these problems and got a refund of the blanket plus double that amount. We feel that was fair and are happy that we were compensated for our problems with the rental. Apart from this we feel that the car itself was good; plenty of space, okay milage and it did well on the back country roads.Pierre • 12. In general it was OK. the car a 4X4 grand vitara was in good conditions and had no problems at all. excellent car. BUT: we received the car with very low pressure in one of the front tires (21 PSI and the other side 47 PSI) I drive a lot so i noticed it and fixed air pressure in all tires in the first gas station. people with no experience would drive like this and it can be very dangerous as you know.
second the car had a door problem and the hazard blinkers worked all the time indicating open door (not big deal but we opened and closed all doors several times before we got that the problem was in the deal and for free.
third and only last is that they added to my voucher account 19,000 ISK for premium insurance recommended by one of the people in theoffice as better covering and cheaper than taking all insurances separated.
I had to discuss for more than 30 min to convince the guys in the office that it was a lot of money that should not be included. by the end i got the refund of the extra but if you explain to a customer that certain deal will cost the same as proposed and give better conditions you cannot add such a bunch of $ as extras (190$ is not cents) .
In general i think that the price was fair and the car was good and I will recommend your company to others but more attention to small details is needed to improve the quality of customer services, ( I work for a company and are in charge of technical advice and provide services to customers -attention to details have a huge impact on the evaluation of the company)
Thanks again and wish you best success as you deserve it

The pickup process was a little difficult, we arrived a little earlier and didn't really know what to expect. But everything went well after a call.
The car was fine, it drinks fuel like crazy but ah well, 4x4...
The staff was quick to reply to questions via email. Picking up the car was an easy process and I had no issues when returning the vehicle except that no one was at the office when we were scheduled to return the vehicle. We called the phone number and someone came quickly to collect the keys and check the condition of the vehicle. The vehicle had many kilometers on it (over 200,000) and condensation collected on the windows inside the vehicle. Overall, I was happy enough with the customer service but would have liked a car in better condition for the price paid.Jennifer • 05. Jun 2017 Rented a Hyundai Tucson from Icerental 4x4 in May 2017
Good car with large space and confortable drive for everyone in the car.
Car was a little bit old and we felt with the doors for example but that was OK.
As I can see you have a good digital business communication, I'd recommand to send a reminder with detail of the process where to wait in the airport when we arrive before to be pick up.
An Updage of the GPS map would be a plus if Icelandic map allows it ;-)
It was OK and I guess a bit cheaper than the other companies. Please get a tel.number manned 7 days a week. And the car could have been cleaner.Bo • 01. May 2017 Rented a Jeep Grand Cherokee from Icerental 4x4 in April 2017
Was a good vehicle for our adventures but needs some minor repairs such as breaks and wind noise on drivers side door.
On pick up we were told to return vehicle to pick up location but when we got there no was there but a sign stating to drop off at airport. It would have nice to have been notified of this change prior to leaving day. Suggestion is to have rental address input into GPS as it was difficult to get the GPS to locate it.
ICerental 4x4 delyed to meet us at the appointed time which is 11:00 a.m. for 45 minutes (we landed since 10 a.m.and picked up baggages and waited around the arrival hall since 10:30 a.m.) Once the time is 11:20, we called them and they had us wait another 10 minutes which screwed up our traveling plan. We feel rather disappointed for not being on time and they excused something else that the flight was delayed and just arrived at 11:00 a.m. However, if so, they should have picked up no later than 11:15 a.m.
Other than that, everything seems to be fine e.g. Type of car exactly the same as we choose (but the car size is pretty small to put all 3 big luggages (2 suitcases and1 big backpack in the rear trunk. We recommend to choose bigger car for more spacious trunk.
GPS (free with the car) for us does not work well, we cannot find most places from spelling. It looks it is not up to date for the route. we'd rather use google map for better navigation.
Returning car is very easy, just drop the key at the hotel reception and we called the rental office to pick it up.
Overall experience was okay, however, delayed pick-up from the airport and pushing of unnecessary insurance add-on's marred the experinceOpeoluwa • 16. Mar 2017 Rented a Dacia Duster from Icerental 4x4 in March 2017
Within 12 hours, the car I rented had a broken trunk (and in turn the lock button on the remote didn’t work) and a broken passenger driver side handle. I was supposed to get a replacement vehicle but it never showed up nor was anything communicated to me why it didn’t show up. Overall the car worked well enough for us but I am not sure that I would rent from them again.Yevsey • 27. Feb 2017 Rented a Hyundai Tucson from Icerental 4x4 in February 2017
The operator was nice but it took us a long time to find him, because he didn't have a board with my name on it. Also, I was surprised to be picked-up by IceRental, I thought the service was Northbound. Not what I was expecting. Other than that, the car was great.
Also, I paid for a pick-up and drop-off, but on the night of the drop-off they said they were closed so I had to drop-off the car in the parking myself. I paid for a service that I didn't get, and might I add that it was pretty expensive. They didn't offer to reimburse me for that.
All in the all, the car worked out really well, but there were some hiccups at the beginning. We went to pick up the car at 8 am so there was only one worker on site. We were greeted, cruised through the process, given the keys, and then he left. We went to get the car and it would not turn on. It didn't even turn over when the key was turned. We then stood around for about 30 minutes before the representative returned to the office. He then let us take the car that he had been driving. And let us return the car with a half tank as opposed to a full tank to apologize for the inconvenience. He also failed to explain the dropping off process which led to some fairly high stress as the office had closed early and we had no idea what to do with the keys. The car, however, ran fine and worked well for our two day excursion.Sydney • 27. Nov 2016 Rented a Hyundai Tucson from Icerental 4x4 in November 2016
The car from 2016 had already 90000 km, there were some indication that the car will not withstand the graval roads. We drove carefully without having fun.
The transport from the airport to the settlement tooks us more than one hour, it was promised via telephon that the agent is on the way. But nothing like this. The car rental station looks like a settlement from iron huts. The crew seems to be completed overloaded withe their business. The car had already some damaged regions and it was nearly impossible during the strong rain to check the car carefully. We did it the next day, The hatchback could not be closed in a normal way.
Next time we spend more money in the hope to get a better car. We do not recommend the Icerental 4x4, even for a low budget couple driving through Iceland.
I did not get the Suzuki Vitara. Due to a communication mistake between Northbound and Icerental 4x4, the car was not ready when we arrived. The staff was very friendly and gave us another car. Please try to improve the signalling of Icerental. It was quite difficult to find them when we had to give back the car, and the GPS wasn't able to help us.Birgit • 14. The car itself was really good, but the tents we also rented were not. They haven't been waterproof so we and our whole stuff in the tents got wet. It is not okay to offer rental tents which aren't waterproof in Iceland. Moreover it should have been double-skinned so it does not get wet inside and for better isolation. We would rent the car again but no tents anymore, that's for sure.Elena • 10. Sep 2017 Rented a Suzuki Grand Vitara from Icerental 4x4 in August 2017
The car I ended up with was not equivalent with what I had booked: I ended up with an old Nissan XTrail with 240.000 kms...
Moreover, I told the stuff that I would be returning the car at 04:00 am, and they said that they would be open and I should return it to their office. When I got there , it was closed, and a sign prompted me to return it to the airport parking P3 instead. Although that was not a problem at the end, it would have saved me the trouble if I went straight to the airport.
Manager was helpful.
Pickup from airport was nice with Marcin the driver.
Drop-off to Airport was also good.
2 stars dropped for a couple of reasons:
1. We were given a Toyota RAV4 that was at least from 2015, and this was called an upgrade. Interesting.
2. We were given super thin sleeping bags, so we had to buy extra blankets on top of the fact we were wearing all of our clothes. Please check your sleeping bags before you drive off!
Also half a start dropped because I did not realise that Northbound was an aggregator, rather than an actual car rental company. - until I received the invoice.
Even after all that, I found Iceland incredibly beautiful haha.
Icerental was quite busy upon arrival. There was nobody available to answer the phone when calling for a shuttle pickup from the airport. We had to call their emergency roadside line to get a hold of someone, then the owner of the company came to personally pick us up. The customers before us rented the car we were supposed to get, so we were downgraded to an old Subaru with some problems. The gas mileage was bad, the car was loud, their was no windshield wiper fluid, and the gas door didn't open. Otherwise the employees were very nice.Robin • 03. We hated it. It was worn, rattly, need a thorough cleaning inside & out, not just a quick wipe down & vacum and did not give us confidence. It had food crumbs in every crevice although it had been vacuumed it needs a quick dry paintbrush sweep of them to just make the next user not feel uncomfortable. When we received the car my comment to the rental agent was this car is a piece of crap. He said this car costs $14,000 here...
The passenger front floor mat was worn completely through with a 12" tear. Transmission slipped occasionally and smelled going up long highway hills, rear wiper was missing, cruise controls was broken, rear hatch would not open so we had to drag luggage out thru the seats, air conditioning did not work, heat only came on thru the windshield upper area, so you could not warm or dry your feet. Something rattles underneath the car as soon as you go over even a slight bump. It had dents, dings, window glass chips. We have 2 older cars at home that we drive & keep them clean and well cared for, so it can be done. We felt cheated out of places we would have liked to go. We paid extra and rented a 4x4 and not a sedan so that we could access the many places we had read about without worrying about the car. We stayed off some dirt roads that were being used by sedans because we did not trust the car. All we did was worry that it would break down. I would NOT rent from this company again. We had to drive like we were in an old worn out sedan, and should have been charged for that. With insurance & the rental is was over $1000, for the 11 days.
Initially a good impression. Unfortunately left my phone in their office at Keflavik when we picked up the car at 5am. I called at about 7:30am from Hveragerdi and they suggested meeting in Reykjavik to pick it up at 1pm. Drove back from Hveragerdi to meet at 1pm. They arrived at 1:15 without the phone. Told us to wait as someone was bringing it. We sat outside the office for 2 hours. Finally at 3pm the phone was delivered. No apologies, no compensation for our time. They should have suggested that we pick it up at Keflavik when we called at 7:30 am. It limited the time that we had to spend on our vacation :(Kathleen • 31. Mostly everyone we interacted with was friendly and kind. I picked up our rental after landing in Reykjavik at 4am, so it was dark and early. The person who handed off my car to me was unable to show me the previous damage on the car, and a cracked bumper that was there before we had on the car was not noted as precious damage. There were some things off with the car: the speedometer was off, but they had included a GPS that we had opted out of that showed us the correct speed. The fuel gauge was off, so we never knew quite when to gas up. The driver's side door could only be locked and unlocked manually. Sometimes when opening a door, the blinkers for the car would turn on. The alignment of the wheels was a bit off.
We called every time we noticed things were off, including when we noticed the damage to the bumper. We were fairly certain that we hadn't caused this damage, but when we called, the person on the phone said we would be liable because it wasn't marked as previous damage. We spent a part of our trip being really stressed that we would have to pay for this mysterious bumper crack. When I returned the car, thankfully a very friendly person helped me and let me know that this damage was already there, and not to worry. I should have taken pictures beforehand, but it was really dark that early in the morning and difficult to see properly.
That being said, we had a safe trip driving the ring road, and this was a more affordable 4x4 rental than other companies. Wish we knew about the speedometer and ge fuel gauge, which were the most concerning issues.
Overall, renting from Icerental 4x4 was a sub-par experience. To start, no one was at the airport to pick me up at the time of arrival. I had to call the office twice before someone finally arrived, waiting over a half hour in the process. Secondly, the interior of the car itself was pretty dirty (as in dirt dirt, not trash everywhere), and the wipers did not work consistently throughout our trip. The rental customer service person even apologized about the wipers when he had to take us to the airport in the car for our return flight and saw how bad they were. Lastly, we were never given any instructions on how the car return process would work, and how we would get to the airport. We needed to return the car by around 6 AM in order to make our flight in time, and were never told if they would be open at that time, or whether there would be someone there to take us to the airport timely. We emailed them two days before our flight with the question and received no response by the next day. We even went to their location in Reykjavik during their business hours to ask and their office was closed. After following up again via email we finally received a response, someone was present at the office at 6, and they were able to take us to the airport timely enough.Ismael • 06. It is unfortunate to let you know that my experience with your company wasn't really good.
First of all, despite indicating the time to fetch us at the airport, we waited for 30mins before we found the guy for our car rental.
Upon reaching the company, things were very rush as your employee was rushing to fetch others from the airport. Things were not explained to us clearly and when yiur guy told us that the car has full tank, it was only 3/4 full.
Next, i wasnt told that the car backwiper was not working. In addition, one of the right door could lock properly. As a result, throughout the journey with heavy winds, our door was constantly shaking. This makeus feel extremely worried throughout the trip.
Overall, i must say that my experience with your company was not a very good one.
My trip to Iceland was excellent however the car experience was somewhat mixed. The good news that the car didn't break and we didn't have any mechanical problems during the rental period. Personel was respectful and responsive. However, I have serious complaints:
1) The car had almost 127,000 km
2) The back door was hard to open, it has mechanical problems
3) Electric keys didn't work at the beginning until a battery was replaced. I tried 2 cars at the lot and both have similar issues
4) The tank was half full
5) Rental place is relatively far away, hard to find without instructions and the provided GPS would not find the rental place address, luckily we had internet access
So knowing all I know now I would likely go for more established rental place in the future
Jul 2017 Rented a Dodge Durango from Icerental 4x4 in July 2017
I have the car for 16 days, and the car is generally fine. One of the staff is very unprofessional in the checkout process. I bought the most experienced insurance package, and the guy warns me that dent, suspension, etc. are not covered. I have rented cars around the world for over 30 years, what's the purpose of buying insurance if none of these things are covered. If they are not, I think it should stated clearly during my online booking, rather than last minute when I am checking out a car and cannot find any other alternative. The car has a faulty flat tire sensor which is on 20 minutes after I drove off the rental location till I return the car. I call the emergency hotline multiple times, no one answered and no one called me back. I was stuck in snow once and called the emergency hotline, no one responded or called me back. I called the downtown office. The agent told me, "I just worked here, please call the emergency line." Luckily, someone drove by and helped me out. I found them unprofessional and unable to help when I needed it. Northbound experience is good, it was fast and easy, but Icerental 4x4 was disappointed. Luckily, I didn't have any other trouble.Jack • 16. Mar 2017 Rented a Honda CR-V from Icerental 4x4 in February 2017
I'm glad to get this opportunity to write a brief feedback. Our stay in Iceland was epic, me and my friends enjoyed it pretty much. However, the car rental part was what made our journey rather unpleasant. The car was relatively dirty when we rented it. The staff then told us to be aware of the strong wind that might damage the car doors as there were many examples of it and that the insurance does not cover this part.
We were, therefore, very cautious during our stay in Iceland. On the last day when we were returning the car, the staff charged us 100,000kr due to the damaged front door of the car, which looked completely intact. We tried to dispute it, but the effort was in vain. The staff insisted that we didn't protect the door and his attitude wasn't remotely friendly. The whole situation seems pretty sketchy and deceptive. He made us pay straight away without making clear statement. If we ever come back again, this will be the last car rental to take into consideration.
It was ok though they gave me a really old car. The gps didn't work well, tire went flat after 2 days and car didn't start a couple times. Definitely too expensive for the kind of carAndrey • 31. Aug 2017 Rented a Hyundai Tucson from Icerental 4x4 in August 2017
Very old, low quality car. Have pictures of the sucky inside.
Rust spots on top of car.
Alignment was totally off. Let the company know. After 2 hours someone showed up with a better car. Never rented a car in this shape.
Rental people were nice.
I did not have the car requested, the car was in very bad condition, bad tire, bad suspension, bad brake and 250000 km.
I had requested a suzuki vitara and I had a tucson V6 with a terrible consume.
I would not rent a car at home and at Icerental4x4.
I was very dissapointed because:
1. The right front door was not tight and made a lot of wind noise
2. Cabin lights could not be turned off (only when key was removed)
3. The cruise control was not working
4. When raining the wipers did not clean the windows properly (old wipers)
5. Wiper on rear screams like a cat when moving
6. The cover in tha luggage room was missing (luggage was visible during the tour)
7. There was no GPS as described (we had to borrow one from another car)
8. The automatic transmission sometimes failed in D-mode (did not turn the engine)
9. In general a very old car not suited for rental.
Pure the didn't Come up at the air Port only After phonening Thema two Timse and a delay of nearly one hour. The car was in a bad condition the right real Light didn't Work asonly one exampleRoland • 16. Mar 2017 Rented a Nissan Patrol from Icerental 4x4 in March 2017
The car that we received was very old and the condition was not very good. The cooland was not sufficient and the wipers were bad making so much noise. Also, there weren't wipers at the back. The car wasn't worth the price we paid. But they picked us up from the airport promptly and they told us to return to P3 parking at the airport and we had difficulties in entering the carpark not knowing how to enter without paying. We were not given sufficient information. Nevertheless, we had a great time in iceland(:Lishanth • 05. Dec 2016 Rented a Hyundai Tucson from Icerental 4x4 in November 2016
We had to meet with the car (icerental4x4) at bsi station at 9h o'clock and the icerental4x4 men appeared at 10h. The same when we had to return the car, we had to meet at 9h at the Reikiavik office and icerental4x4 men didn't appeared until 10h after my phone call to keflavik office at 9.10h
After all, the car worked out and all was good but you have to review that point of punctuality. More for people who have to pick buses at bsi in order to return to Keflavik airport!!!
I was very disappointed with my rental from Northbound and Icerental 4x4. To start, there was no representative waiting for us at the airport when we arrived, after looking for an hour we had to call the company. They never even called us to see where we were. After finally getting our car, we were surprised to see we received a model 9 years older than the one we reserved online. When we drove to a nearby campsite, we were also surprised to find that the car did not include the sleeping bags and pillows we were supposed to receive. After a freezing Iceland night in the empty tent, we had to return to the rental company and get the sleeping bags and pillows and a generous refund. If we could do it over, we would have used a different company.Joshua • 15. Aug 2017 Rented a Suzuki Grand Vitara + Roof Tent from Icerental 4x4 in August 2017
Upon arrival we immediately had an uneasy feeling about this rental company as two other customers in line ahead of us were returning their rentals because they broke down on their first days of travel.
When it was our turn in line we were expecting to receive a 2008 Hyundai Tucson (or similar), but instead were given a late 90's Subaru Forester with lots of wear and tear and over 140,000 km. When we asked for a car that was more similar to the one we reserved, we were blatantly lied to and told that the "Subaru was 2006 or 2007." The registration in the glove box showed that was not true. This clearly was not in line with their stated policy that: "You will never be downgraded to a lesser model. If for some reason the vehicle is not available you will be upgraded."
Prospective customers should know that none of the vehicles on their lot matched the online descriptions. There were no Mazdas, Fords, Jeeps, Hyundais or Suzukis. All of the vehicles that we saw were much older than what was represented online, in much worse condition, and most were brands that we did not recognize.
Icerental 4x4 was significantly less expensive than other rental places we found, which is why we ultimately decided to book with them...Now we know why. You truly do get what you pay for, or in our case, we got much less than what we paid for. If you can swing it, I would highly recommend spending a little extra money and booking with a well known company instead.
One positive: our old Subaru did get us safely through our 8 day vacation. It was not comfortable and we couldn't shake the feeling that at any moment we might be stranded, but we did make it.
We rented a 10 yo car of 140,000 kilometers, bad state with scratches everywhere. Ok for us. Battery problem after two days and a terrible emergency service : we basically didn't get any help. But still ok for us. At the end of our trip, we give back the car : 90000 isk (750 euros) for scratches already there at the beginning but that we didn't photograph (there were so many of them).Denis • 18. Tatjana • 11. Icerental 4x4 not responding to any of my emails. Returned car on 30/7/17 and charged 75,000ISK (£500) for a small dent. Was assured that I would receive the paperwork needed for insurance claim. Nothing. Those good reviews were obviously from people who had a trouble-free experience but if, like me, you experience a problem - beware as they are not very co-operative.Susan • 05. 1. Icerental 4x4 did not have a car ready at the time we booked.
The manager kept saying "unfortunately ...." and we had to wait an hour for the car to be ready.
2. The company did not lend me a safe vehicle.
The first lent Suzuki Vitara, already run over 180,000Km, had a strange noise and powertrain trouble, so the next day we visit your company again then the mechanic checked and decided to exchange to another car. As a result we lost half day and had to change the itinerary.
3. The newly replaced car, Jeep Cherokee with mileage over 199,000Km, also had serious problem.
When we drive near by Myvatn with almost 90Km/h in the corner, the steering wheel become heavy and engine coolant temp went so high suddenly. I had to control the car very carefully and stopped by road side, then contacted the customer service. After 3 hours, one mechanic came from a garage in Myvatn and checked car, finally he recognized timing belt off and he said they don’t have spare parts. At that time, we requested Icerental 4x4 customer service manager(=I heard he is the president of Icerental 4x4.-.-) to send us another car because we don’t want to spend our precious time again but he denied due to long distance. So, we waited again to fix the car by the next day the afternoon.
The more surprising fact is.. during the repairing period we called the customer service manager about 20 times, but he only called us one time, which shows that your company is not actively managing your customers.
We spent huge money to travel to Iceland including flights tickets, accommodation, guided tours, car rental and many kinds of expanses. However we lost over one and half days due to Icerental 4x4 car trouble 2 times, moreover it was very dangerous situation that could cause serious accident as I wrote above.
If you want to choose this company you should check their facebook.
I greatly regertted not checking it in advance.
My experience with Icerental 4x4 was poor. First they were late to pick us up at the airport, which judging by the jokes from the people from the other car rental agencies is a common occurrence. Then when we finally got to the office it was extremely dirty and smelled bad. When they gave me the car it had less than a quarter tank of gas in it and no windshield wiper fluid. Instead of offering to fix the issue I was told just to bring it back the same way. We were supposed to have been given camping supplies including sleeping bags, cooking utensils, and propane. The sleeping bags were not made for an Icelandic climate. I was so cold that I ended up sleeping in the back seat of my car all week with every item of clothing that I had on. We were given half a bottle of cooking fuel, not enough to last for 8 days, and the rooftop tent was not sealed all the way around and offered no protection from the wind or rain. We loved traveling around Iceland during the day but this made the nights absolutely miserable. When we dropped off the car with the same amount of fuel as we picked it up with they tried to charge me for it and I had to remind them how I got it. They also made comments that the outside of the car was very dusty. I didn't drive down a single F road and the car was in the same dirty condui picked it up at. I absolutely loved Iceland but I would never rent from them again.Sarah • 13. Aug 2017 Rented a Suzuki Grand Vitara + Roof Tent from Icerental 4x4 in August 2017
Hi there! Well, all seemed go OK at first, but... the car broke down the third day! It was a bit old and got hot. The company Icerental 4x4 responded reasonably well and provided us a new car four hours after our call (we were 200 km away from Reykiavik) , a Dodge Durango a bit old too but it worked correctly the rest of days although it was a bit dirty. _We will rate 1 the first car but 3 the second one.Salvador • 09. Very bad experience.
We rented 2 cars. Very bad condition: car with 125000 kms odometer; trunk did not close; R.passenger door diid not open from the inside; light of gas gasket was on 80 percent of the time; gas guzzler
The back of the rental place is filled with crashed cars and tires: very bad impression.
Don't know where they get these cars.
Unacceptable! Were uneasy during entire trip with a car in this condition.
We cannot recommend Icerental 4x4! Our Suzuki Grand Vitara 2010 was not worth the Money.
On Arrival at the Airport we had to wait over 1 hour for the Transfer to the car although the flight were in time. We had to call them by phone and it takes again 30 Minutes until they arrive at the Airport.
The Car, a Suzuki Grand Vitara 2010, 150.000km was terrible worn out, the engine had no power, the gear shift was totally worn out. Remote Control did not work, the aircondition/Ventilation had an error.
The 10 yrs old Hyundai Tuscon with a flimsy sterring broke down due to flat battery while we were at Gullfoss. Call Icerental 4X4 and they refused any assistance claiming that it is our fault for leaving the car lights on causing the battery to run flat. Fortunately, managed to get some help to jump start the car but after driving for about 15 minutes at 90 Km/hr, the car start to jerk very badly. Luckily for us, we managed to turn into a farmhouse before the car come to a complete dead stop due to a flat battery. I cannot imagined if the car has just stop on the road and the danger it posed to other road user who drive at such high speed. The owner of the farmhouse was kind enough to jump start the car for us again but noted the battery is not working properly. Advised us not to drive and help us to contact Icerental 4x4 to tell them the problem and to come with a replacement car. They came in two cars and angrily said that there is nothing wrong with the car after they have test drive but i told them the car run flat after we have managed to get it jump start and drive down from Gullfoss. We insisted and they finally relented to give us a replacement car, a Subaru Forester which is not much better as the dash board lighting is very very dim ( i had to switch on the cabin light in order to read the gauge) and the car only have the right side head light working which i need to use 'High-beam' to ensure it is bright enough for oncoming traffic to see. It was the first "Bad' driving experienced i had, i suspect the real reason for the flat battery is due to alternator problem which is not surprising for a 10 years old car that is so poorly maintained. I thank God that i managed to turn quickly into the farmhouse to ensure the car is out of harm way for other road user. I told my wife we need to get out of the car if it stop in the middle of the road and pray no nasty accident happened. Glad that God hear our prayer and nothing worst came out of this nasty experience. I would give them a 0.1 rating for not offering any assistance instead asked me to seek help by myself. I spent 2 hours going around to seek a pair of jump-start cable. Fortunately, a kind gentlemen from one of the tour bus came to my rescue by pointing me to one of the glacier tour crew. So good luck and pray hard if you want to rent from them.
Had a good experience organising the car rental through Northbound and communication was good, but did not have a good experience with Icerental 4x4.
There were issues from the very start - tank was not full despite being told it was (it was closer to being half full, estimated distance left at start was only 300km), passenger side view mirror was cracked but the damage was not marked on our rental form, and we found out when we got to our accommodation that the remote battery was flat and couldn't lock our car (key didn't work manually either on the door, car was pretty old).
Tried using the alleged 24 hour emergency number but no one answered. Had to wait to next morning and eventually managed to get through to one of the offices who told us to go get the remote battery replaced and they would reimburse us. Have still not been reimbursed yet.
A few days later got a flat tyre in the early morning on the ring road between towns. Could not change the tyre because car was missing the wrench to remove the lug nuts on the wheel. When calling the rental number again the person refused to believe that the wrench wasn't in the car and we had force him to call a service person to come change the tyre and who confirmed that the wrench was missing.
No communication from Icerental 4x4 after we returned the car and no reimbursement. Icerental 4x4 probably had the cheapest prices but in future would pay more to rent from a different company.
Brilliant rent a car company!
