Southcoast and Aurora Borealis
When the Aurora Borealis glow above the great glaciers of the South Coast reflecting on the icecap it will simply take your breath away. Join us for an illuminating adventure.
This tour will take you to the beautyful South shore and many of the natural wonders that Iceland has to offer
After the pickup on our 4x4 from your accommodation we will head out of town, over a mountain road called Hellisheiði, working our way towards the south shore. On our way to our first stop at Urriðafoss waterfall located in Þjórsá river, we will pass through beautiful old fishing villages, Stokkseyri (500 people) and Eyrarbakki (600 people).
After viewing the waterfall we will continue on to road nr.1 and drive towards the mighty Eyjafjallajökull, the trouble maker that erupted in 2010 causing a lot of disturbance in Europe´s airspace.
At the base of the glacier/volcano we will find two amazing waterfalls, Seljalandfoss and hidden secret inside a gorge called Gljúfrabúi.
Now things will start to heat up as we put our superjeep to the test and head inland on a 4×4 road, passing rivers and rough landscape to view of Gígjökull glacier, tongue of Eyjafjallajökull. Next up is the black sand beach at Reynisfjara. There we will enjoy watching the magnificent and powerful Atlantic ocean smash against the basalt column rock formations.
Beware that on this stop you must proceed with caution, the strength of the current in this area is high and can easily sweep you away. Once we have had a refreshing walk on the amazing black sand beach, we will drive to the magnificent Skógafoss, which falls 60m of a cliff in the Eyjafjalla mountain range.
At Skógarfoss we will enjoy a relaxing dinner before completing the perfect day with a thrilling Northern Light hunt.
