Kleifarvatn

The largest lake of the Reykjanes peninsula, surrounded by vast mountain ridges and geothermal activity.

Measuring at 10km², 'Kleifarvatn' is the largest of Reykjanes peninsula and the third largest in the south of Iceland. It is around 97m deep.

The lake has slowly diminished since 2 large Earthquakes in the year 2000. Possibly opening fissures on the bottom.

The lake is mostly cold water, except for the southernmost where hot water from the hot springs runs into the lake.
