Ásbyrgi Camping Ground

This campsite is open for summer months, and is suitable for all forms of camping.

The Ásbyrgi glacial canyon is part of the Vatnajökull National Park and is about 3.5 km long and 1 km wide and shaped like a horseshoe. Some explain the shape to be after the hose Sleipnir, Óðinns eight-legged horse.

The campsite is open from June to September and is suitable for tents and campervans on a large grassy area, places for over 350 tents. All the necessary facilities are well taken care of, showers, washer and dryer close and dishwashing can be done in the kitchen sinks next to the service building. Multiple hiking trails are in Ásbyrgi, that take from 30 minutes to 7 hours.

The site is also home to a visitors center where you can get information regarding Ásbyrgi and Jökulsárgljúfur. There is also a convenience store located close by.
