Vestmannaeyjar

An archipelago off the south coast of Iceland.
Heimaey, the biggest of the Westman Islands, has a population of over 4,000 people while the other islands remain uninhabited.
In 1973, the volcano Eldfell erupted on Heimaey, sparking a month-long evacuation to mainland Iceland. The eruption managed to destroy one-fifth of the town before the lava flow was halted.
