Gunnuhver Geothermal Area
A geothermal area in the southern peninsula.
Gunnuhver is a geothermal area of mud pools and steam vents in the southwest part of Reykjanes, in the vicinity of the Reykjanes lighthouse.
Gunnuhver takes its name from the tale of Gunna, a ghost that supposedly haunted the area until a local priest tricked it into one of the steam vents, and so the ghost was banished by the forces of nature.
Viewing ramps are situated around the hot vents where visitors can look at the bubbling pools or take pictures.
