Reviews for Camping Cars
Hi, our trip was superb! But Suzuki was too old actually. It’s brakes were not working well. But guy from the rent company super friendly. Thank you very much.
Northbound was a very easy to use car rental comparison site that gave me my best option for my week in Iceland. However the experience with their partner Camping Cars was not so great. Very forceful in selling their insurance - even though I told them I have both my credit card and private travel insurance. They then went on to put a hold of the complete excess on my credit card (~AUD $4,500. A lot of money when you're travelling on top of my week's rental cost). After that, they told me to sign an agreement that I would pay for any damages without showing me a condition report of the car. When asked to see the report, I was advised they take images of the car and keep it on file and they cannot show me the files: I should take my own photos. Very skeptical! Lastly, they told me the car petrol meter was broken and that's why the indicator does not reach the top (where it indicate full...

Booking was easy. When I changed the date of my reservation though, it seemed that there was a miscommunication with Camping Cars because they were waiting for me at the airport on the wrong day. Thankfully it got sorted out and pick up was a breeze. Super friendly and helpful service at pick up and through out the trip, until after I dropped off the car.
At that point, things took a major nose dive.
I returned the car close to empty. I did this because I did not receive the car full and was not told it needed to be filled up before dropping it off. If I had been told that, I would have taken a photo of the gas tank metre when I received it. I also wasn't told that Camping Cars has a discount with Olis, which would have been helpful during my travels. Unfortunately, Camping Cars refuses to give me any credit towards the gas, so I'm stuck paying for a full tank, even though I didn't get one...
It was really great, easy to drive and extremely comfortable seats for the long drives. We also found the tent to be way more spacious and comfortable than I thought it would be to sleep in. Although we did get wet one night after heavy rain as it pelted against the lining of the tent.
I had a great time in Iceland, driving around with my three children. The car was perfect for our needs, and with the roof tent we could all sleep in or on top of the car. The service from both Northbound and Camping Cars was excellent, and when going back to this beautiful country I will use your services again. With love, Christina

We had great experience with CampingCars and Northbound. The tent on the roof is something unusual. I think everyone should try it.
Fantastic service. Really pleased with the whole experience. Booking through Northbound was super easy and well priced, the car was brilliant and exactly as described. The car was functionally sound. Everything worked great.
The pickup was on time and very helpful and friendly explaining everything to us, giving safety tips and suggestions.
Would definitely use again and will recommend them to anyone.
The car and tent were great! The tent was comfy. The customer service was also amazing - everyone was so nice and so helpful!
compagny is very helpfull great service good price for what you get.
we had some small troubles with windscreenwipers and headlight the are solved proper when we did a fly by and received a other car and 1 day free rent.
pick up and delivery service was great and fast and on time.
very helpfull team and good weather and travel information has been given
Camping cars was brillant. the staff were waiting for us to pick up at the airport on the 25th at 23:45 ! we are very thanksfull for that. The car was fine. comfy, no issues with it
The staff show us all tips to use the roof tent and how to drive in security in Iceland. Best rental company I've seen in my all travels
Hired a 4x4 Duster from Camping Cars for 10 days in the middle of winter - wanted something that would be good for getting around the ring road no matter the ice and snow. Then realised maybe I shouldn't have hired a rooftop tent in the middle of winter...! Turned out very well though, the sleeping bags from Camping Cars were nice and warm, and the canvas on the roof tent happily keeps the weather out.
The car itself coped perfectly with the snow and ice, and I think the jeep-style is more fuel efficient than a camper-van shape. Spent most of the time listening to audiobooks on the stereo via bluetooth - had the wifi router from Camping Cars and don't think I ran into a signal deadzone along the ring road. Kitchen box is well enough equipped for basic cooking, but most campsites had an electric hob to use anyway.
Would definitely recommend Camping Cars.
we are very content with our location. a person came to meet us dearly at the airport directly to take us to our 4x4. the car was very well equipped, wifi, duvets.
Camping cars were really friendly and picked us up and drove us back from/to the airport. We were really satisfied with the car, the tent and the sleeping bags.
My experience with Camping Cars was amazing. It allowed for my wife and I to stay warm during the days as well as have so much extra comfort at night with all the extras we were able to hire. We saw the ring road of Iceland and many other extra sights in a week due to the amazing vehicle we were able to hire.
Easy to find exactly what I was looking for. Great prices and made for a fantastic experience. Will certainly use again!

They were helpful and the car was great.
Camping kit could use some more stuff but great deal
Although we had to wait one hour for our pick up it was a pleasure with Camping cars. everything was very simple and good. Thank you Camping cars.
The car is exactly what you need = reliable, clean, spacious
The car has a lot of miles on it but everything seemed as good as new= suspension, tires, a/c.
I traveled by myself for four days and drove about 966 miles around all of Iceland - including the west coast - through the rain, the mountains, the valleys and the gravel roads.
This car is the car your uncle would lend you = Safe, reliable, and well driven but not concerned about cosmetics flaws.
Camping Cars was fantastic and a great way to see Iceland. The service was friendly and the car was great - surprisingly comfortable sleeping on the top of the car. Would definitely recommend to anyone traveling through Iceland.
Couldn't have asked for a better experience with renting our vehicle. Camping Cars and Northbound were super accommodating and managed to help us with some last second changes to our rental.
The car itself ran perfectly and the roof tent was better than we expected. Slept great and drove great. Highly recommend Camping Cars.
We ended up switching to a manual Dacia Duster with a rooftop tent and absolutely loved it! Such a wonderful way to explore the country. Our two year old daughter loved it too!
All good! Smooth pick up and drop off. Reliable car. Easy to use rooftop.
Great Northbound comparator and Camping Cars provider.
Very friendly people at the car rental. The Grand Vitara was no the newest, but probably still one of the best in its class for Icelandic roads. The tent was pretty comfortable. Highly recommended.
The car itself was not great. It's extremely basic and lacks simple features that I typically expect on even the cheapest cars like cruise control, air conditioning, automatic transmission, or even a simple center console to use as an armrest or to store phones, snacks, batteries etc.
That said, the car functioned perfectly well enough for getting around the country. It was reliable and stayed on the road, even through rivers and F roads. The service from Camping Cars itself was excellent, from pickup through explanations, communication etc. The service was always friendly and knowledgeable and helpful. Were I to do this again I might spring for a slightly more expensive car.
camping cars was excellent. picked up at airport on time then drove short distance to pick up car which was very good condition for age. the roof tent was very good and easy to put up and down. we also got quite a few tips on route we were taking and a few pointers on places to go that I did not read about. The wifi was also a great help for navigating. I would certainly recommend them and would use again.
We had a great trip - everything went smoothly with Northbound and CampingCars - and the trip was amazing.
