Excellent

Great trip! We drove a duster for a week, the roof tent system is quite nice, and easy to use. If you're taller than about 190cm (6'4") like me, you won't be able to stretch much in the bed, but it's comfy otherwise. We couldn't drive up to Askja because of the high water level in one of the rivers, which was too high for the duster. Nothing much we could do there but hire a bigger car. Icerental was convenient, easy and flexible with their 24/7 availability. One thing we has not been warned of was that you can't just park the car on the roadside to sleep anymore in Iceland, but you need to go to campsites, so budget for that as well (it's very cheap compared to hostels). Really recommended overall!

Lagoon Car Rental was excellent. This was the first car I have ever rented for and by my self. I had a lot of anxiety about having to deal with issues because I am not yet 25, or figuring out insurances, dealing with a dirty or bad functioning car, or having to deal with exploitive business people who would find any excuse to charge me extra upon returning the car. All of these worries were for nothing! The people were easy to work with, honest and straight forward. They seemed to be more interested in getting you a good experience than with getting your money. I was beyond pleasantly surprised and grateful. I have a lot of trust for this company and people that has come from only one interaction.

We rented a camper van through northbound (from Grand Iceland) and the whole experience was smooth and completely stress free. It seemed competitively priced relative to other options, on arrival a Grand Iceland representative met us at the airport with our names on a sign and drove us to the collection point (despite being early in the morning). The van was clean and as advertised. They provide us with communication options if anything went wrong and stressed that we could call day/night (fortunately we did not have any issues). The staff were friendly and the entire process was really smooth. I'd recommend both Northbound and Grand Iceland and would gladly use both services in the future.

Outstanding!

Very good experience generally. They are just two things that could be improved: (1) the tire repair kit in the car was useless: rounded wrench because of very low quality. We got 2 flat tires during our 3-week trip and both times we had to wait for another car to come and ask them to lend us their wrench to unscrew our tire and replace it with our spare tire. (2) The person at the reception of Lava Auto was a bit unfriendly when we gave back the car. Professional yes, but a bit rude. Except from that the car was clean and in good condition, and we really enjoyed the Olis tag that allowed us to get free coffee in their stations.
