Lava Car Rental in Iceland

It is hard to find comparison of F road availability which is easy with Northbound and why I personally chose it.

We booked a Dacia Duster, but only recieved a Mitsubishi Hybrid. We had to stop our trip to Kerlingarfjoll because the car simply could not drive far enough on petrole. We did not expect to get a hybrid as a tourist. We were very sad about not going to Kerlingarfjoll. No one told us, to put both petrole and charge battery to get to any short destinations on F Road. Would not recomend this for tourist. The car and journey should be simple, and not a hybrid! Lost a lot of time, and we could have renter a small car and saved a lot, and not go for 4x4, because we got a hybrid instead.

Excellent Service! Everything was perfect!! The car, pickup from airport to the rental service office and the rental process was quick and easy. The employees were so friendly and helpful. It was absolutely worth it to pay for the hot spot wifi. We used it every day, all day! The return process was just as easy. When we return, we will rent from Iceland Car Rental again.

It was a quite good car. I just was missing one information about the car on your homepage. As you know, the car is allowed to drive on F-roads in the highlands, but there is no information about the wading depht, that you have to know if you need to cross some rivers. So you dont know in advance where you are allowed to drive. This information is the only thing i was missing.

Hello, everything was ok, but 3 points. 1. In received no introduction or explanation in the car ("here is the key, there is the car") It was a Hybrid Car, I never drove a Hybrid or E-Car before. I asked for it, then it was no probem 2. Car was filled up with Gasoline only by 75%. (not full). After reklamation I followed one employee to the next Gas Station to fill up (he was on the way with another car) ?? 3. Pick up from the airport takes 35 to 40 minutes (called 3 times) , it looks like they waited for another arrival. A Hybrid car makes no sense for a road trip through Island. Normal car is good enough. Except of the points above, no problems and friendly customer service Hope this helps Best regards Martin Wendt

Due to availability the car was upgraded to a Mitsubishi Cross Eclipse PHEV.

Upon arrival, I was not presented with the car that I reserved. I was not given an explanation other than the car I received was a free upgrade. I do not believe this was an upgrade for me. My preference according to my reservation was to rent a Dacia Duster manual which I was not provided for whatever reason. I was never given a reason. However, the car I was provided met my needs.

We used this car for the 10 days that we were in Iceland. We explored all of the golden circle and hard no issues. I wouldn't recommend opting for the GPS add on, there were multiple occasions (not all the time) were the sat nav didn't recognise an address or took us to the wrong place. We thought we were putting in the wrong place at first but when we searched on Google Maps using our phones it took us to an area near by so we were heading near the place, just not the exact location which can be confusing (and dangerous) if you don't know the roads. When we raised it with Lava Car Rental they told us that it was our fault and that was the end of the conversation in their eyes. Other than that I would highly recommend Northbound as a company when looking to rent a car in Iceland

Pickup was great and 2 of the 3 staff we dealt with were top notch! The car was nice and they were honest about a few chips that had been there. They do a good job inspecting the cars on return. The guy that took us back to the airport was arrogant and unprofessional. We shared the van with another family that was as unimpressed by him as we were. I would use them again just because how nice and helpful the first tow employees were.

We loved the Dacia, the information provided by Northbound and all things Iceland! Great experience overall

The reservation process was great ! The pricing from Lava was reasonable, shuttle service great, agents at location very professional and informative. Car was excellent, great mileage for larger vehicle, handled 6 adults with 3 large suitcases ( not sure if waterproof roof rack carrier was option but would be a nice addition ) Overall a 10 out of 10 !

I really liked the car that was given. I booked a Suzuki Vitara but received a Eclipse Cross which was fairly good! I strongly recommend Northbound becase instead of going on each website, I could compare most of rental places at once.

The car was okay. Good driving experience. What we really did not liked where the small tires, because they where not really made for driving on F-Roads in Island. Therefore we hat a flat tire, which cost me around 1.400€. When we gave the car back, there was a person with exactly the same issue so we are very frustrated. The backoffice was not very helpfull at all.

I loved my experience with Lava Car Rental. All staff was amazing, and the car was impeccable! Thank you Lava Rental for the amazing experience that I had with my road trip!

Car was good and comfortable

Everything was perfect. We actually received an 2023 Version of the Duster. Will book again via Northbound and Lava Car Rental when on Iceland again.

Car was almost new, clean and in perfect condition. Additional insurance coverage at a good price. Only one small remark: pick-up to and from the airport is a little slow, it took some 25 minutes (waiting included) on average, not an issue but need to be considered especially when you are leaving and you have a flight waiting. I could be wrong but the disclaimer says 5 minutes, but this is the driving time only. With one small bus only the waiting is not negligible, better to be clear.

I found the vehicle rental process went very smoothly with Northbound. They have a good selection of rentals from their partners in Iceland. We enjoyed the Toyota RAV4 that we used for our 10 day trip. Not only was their processing easy, I found many of their articles to be helpful also. Great experience!

The car was fantastic and did exactly what it said it would do. It took us around the entirety of Iceland with no issues whatsoever. We had a wonderful time!
