Overall I was very disappointed in my rental for Iceland. I read a good review with a small discount by booking through Northbound/Ring. Took approximately an hour to get a ride from the airport to Ring. After the lengthy paperwork, waited for my vehicle to be fueled. My vehicle had nearly 100,000km, broken mirror, worn tires, non-latching gas tank, and numerous dents and physical appearance damage. Based on what I saw, I felt the need to take out maximum insurance because I was worried I would be blamed for some of this. When I got in the car, warning light was on for "fill tyres and callibrate". Was told to not worry about that. Numerous other warnings repeatedly came on - "check vehicle", "check stop and start", "replace gas cap', and the most worrysome was "electrical system malfunction, please shut off vehicle". I told Ring about this and was told this happens sometimes. As for the drive of the vehicle, with better tires, would have been okay. I would never purchase a Dacia or rent one again if the opportunity arose. Perhaps better customer service would have made the problems with the car better tolerated, but the staff really didn't seem to care. Unfortunately I will not be recommending Ring to my family and friends

First car was a let down as blinking red lights started to show after a few kilometres (engine failure). Parked the car on the side of the road and called for help (if this happens, have whatsapp ready!). Fortunately we were close to the rental office, so it only took a bit of time to get someone to come get us, and to offer a replacement vehicle. Second car we had no issue whatsoever.

The rental process was simple. It was unclear to us that we were renting through Ring, and not Northbound. The ring shuttle driver was supposed to pick us up at 7am and was an hour and a half late, showing up at 8:30am. The Northbound office was closed, though we did get a response via email saying the driver would be there shortly. That was about 45 minutes before they actually showed up, and to be honest we were contemplating cancellation and getting a new car since we couldn't get a response from the driver, but eventually he showed up. The car itself was fine. It was a hybrid and had a full fuel tank, but the charge on the electric battery was dead. Our fuel efficiency was very low for the week, but the car itself was in fine condition. A little beat up but what can you expect from the rugged driving conditions. Very clean. A few hiccups, mostly at the beginning when we had to wait on the driver, but overall I would say it worked out. Fair price, friendly Northbound staff, but bad pickup and the car guzzled gas a bit more than we were expecting.

Everything went well regarding the car, except the fact that nobody was waiting for us on the flight arrival. We had to call Northbound to have information on what happened and had to wait nearly one hour in the arrival hall. On the departure, we found the rental office closed and also, we had to call to know how to give the car back.

The Van work out very well for the ~3.200 km But I wanted to rent with a minimum of insurance - pre booked from home - that was not possible when I arrived at RING. I had to paid for the premium insurance (71.370 ISK). mail: [email protected]

Very Good
The car was very good. But since all t the F-roads where closed we could have just chosen a 2WD car instead. The roof top tent made an extremely annoying and very loud whistleing sound while driven, we had to use earplugs most of the time. Called RING but they had no really help to offer. Finally we wrapped towels around the base and that helped a bit. We would have liked information about the parking system. It was very annoying to have to pay for every short stop and we skipped some things we wanted to see because of it. Also we could not find any information about what happens if you only drive into the parking and turn around. We backed out at one occasion in the north and returned the other day. Not sure if we were registered at all as leaving the first day or if we were registered to stay for a long period since we did not turn the car around. Very sad to have to pay around 7 euros every time you wanted to stop by to just watch the nice view for 20 minutes or so. Very sad system. Ruined some of the experience. Would have been easier if we had known more before, suggestion is that the car provider offer some good to know-information and tips about parking. Also feed back to parking-fee-provider that their system is ruining for tourist om a tighter budget and that the app doesn't always work for everyone. I dont have the phone needed for the use of apps and sometimes there were no machine. Suggestion to offer a parking-card instead, I would rather have payed a higher one time sum directly to be able to park and watch the beautiful waterfalls whenever I like and not have to think about that parking all the time. Maybe that's something the car rentals could offer, they par all the parking tickets and the costumer pay a little higher weekly (or something) price in advance..?
