Northern Lights Car Rental in Island

Excellent! Pick up was waiting when we arrived (I think the poor chap may have been waiting a while. It took some time to get through customs). Car was clean, and ran excellent with no issues. A bit higher mileage than North American rentals, but from research I know that's normal. Staff at NL were friendly, no pushy up-sells on insurance, which was a concern going into it. Deposit was returned promptly. All in all, a fantastic experience.

The rental pick up and return were painless and very fast. We rented Jimny with rooftop tent for 10 days. The only problem we had was windy nights. There were 2 nights when we had to evacuate the tent because how windy it got. But the overall experience was good. I think I would rent a camper next time.

I rented a Suzuki from 2015, but got one from 2013 with already 128800 km. Day 11 the engine was overheating because of a broken cooling belt. Lucky we were close to the town Egilsstadir. The person from Northern Lights Car rental gave us a good phone support. The car was quickly repaired en redelivered. If this had happened two days earlier in Kerlingjarfjöll, it would have been terrible. So we were very lucky, not ? We read on their site : Opening hours In Keflavik we are open 24/7 This was not the case. We had to choose the hour of return. So we were very surprised about this.

It was really good. Everything worked as booked and the car was in great condition.

Hi, Our experience with the car itself was not as good as we expected. The car was pretty old, it had 155.000km on the clock and was not comfortable to be driven at all, brakes clutch, transmission, direction control, suspension, everything has to be checked and repaired in that car prior renting it. Icelandic roads are rough and sometimes can be dangerous in a car like that. The rooftent was in the same condition as the car, pretty old with holes everywhere (we had to buy duct tape to repair it). Although the pick-up at drop-off with NL was really easy going, and the staff was friendly as well. We are coming back to Iceland soon (hopefully) and we will try another car rental company and maybe a different car also, but we will most probably use Northbound again as the website and customer service is good.

The car was very good. We were crossing the island and also driving on f-roads therefore we were glad to have this car. The car was in very good shape, we had no problems with it also not in the highland. The pick up on the airport and the handover of the car was very well organized. Also we had a change request for the giving back of the car at the end of our tour, we did it by phone and mail and it worked best. We can unreservedly recommend the Northern Lights Car Rental.

Service was good and the car was well-maintained. We had no problems in using on normal paved and unpacked roads as well as up in the mountains on rocky and wet F2 tracks. But the baby Jimny with the roof top tent might had been too much for this small car particularly on highway when driving over 80km per hour or on very windy days when the car should be driven with great car due to shaking. I would prefer a tougher model in my future trips.

Everything was fine, guys in the rental company were super nice and helpful. Car was a little bit old but without any defects.
