Northern Lights Car Rental in Iceland

We had some issues with the car. Luckily it happened on days where we had some time to spare. So it didn't ruin anything, but it was a bit annoying. When breaking (on any road) and taking turns on gravel roads, the steering wheel started shaking pretty bad. And on gravel roads you could feel the car drifting off. The battery died after leaving the lights on for 15 minutes when we parked and stayed in the car. It was quite hard to put on the cables right, because the contact points of the battery were corroded. Then a few days later the cooling liquid was empty and the engine kept overheating. After calling to ask which color liquid we needed to put in, a mechanic was sent to take the car for a checkup. After the checkup we would get a new car the next day. We drove to a camping to stay the night and would meet the driver with the new car the next day. He would be there at 8 but still wasn't there at 9. That's when we messaged our contact that we would start driving and could meet the driver along the road. In the end the driver met us around 2pm after driving quite a long distance, about 4 hours without any problems.

Good experience. We ran into a windshield issue. We photographed the entire car upon renting which showed the nick in windshield. The nick began to grow. We called the company to inform of issue. We then took car to CarMax to have windshield repaired. Upon returning car we were reimbursed for the repair

Other than the slow check in process from the Airport pick-up and actually getting the car everything else was beautifully simple. We chose the full insurance package would I would advise for anyone driving in Iceland. All was good with the car and the drop off and mini-bus to the airport perfect. Really a no-quibble, no hidden tricks company. Highly recommended.

They were great!! A little disappointment for deducing €2700 as a deposit for damage waiver but rest went really well.

Booking and returning the car, the people dealing with this process were very professional. The car was fine too and seemed well maintained. However the top tent has some mold in it, this was due to a hole in the underside of the tent box. One night I went to go to bed and the mattress was significantly wet on one side. This was disappointing.

The car was working properly, only thing to mention is, that there was quite a lot of mold inside the roof tent as we got the car.

Service was brilliant from start to finish. We had an issue with tyre pressures leaving the office and was told to just inflate them ourselves at a garage so we did. Then the one tyre went flat completely after 20 or so miles. We got straight onto the emergency line and were told to go to a garage nearby to have it replaced or fixed. They fixed it but then it blew just yards from the garage. We went to a 2nd garage who changed it to a new tyre. The communication from David at the office was outstanding! We have nothing but high praise for how it was handled and we didn’t have any other issues for the rest of the week. The car itself is great for the F roads, and economical, we covered 1770 miles in the 7 days. The roof tent was cold a couple of nights but that’s to be expected, it’s very comfortable for 2 people and space in the car is great. I wouldn’t want to use it for more than 2 people though if having it for a week.

Smooth rental experience with Northern Lights car rental. It was the best price we could find online. We rented the vehicle for 7 days and had no issue nor complaint about the vehicle. Airport pick up process was a bit hectic with a large crowd waiting upon arrival, so only one passenger from each reservation was shuttled to the office and expects to come back and pick up your travel companion. Northbound provided excellent customer service, I had to amend my reservation prior to arrival and their staff made it so seamless.

Nice car to drive!

Everything was fine, and our journey went very well. Suzuki Jimny is perfect for Iceland, a little rough on tarmac but very tough and reliable on gravel. We did also some river crossing and everything worked perfectly. Just a minor issue, a headlight out but it was no problem since I almost always drove in daylight. The roof tent was very practical, easy to open and close, and definitely very comfortable! The staff was always very kind and efficient. I definitely recommend Northern Lights Car Rental.

I asked to show me the car before I pay. Car was dirty inside and in very bad condition, I asked about another one. They said they do not have. I did not accepted that one and was ready to look for other rental company, then they gave me Renault Traffic in excellent condition. Car was great. I would not recommend anyone to pay before you see the car.

The car itself was great, but the service was not ideal. The car needed check-ups that should have happened prior to rental. The rear light was out, making reversing in the dark dangerous and challenging. Start-up was weak and concerning. I was not sure if the car would make it. We purchased camping kitchen gear and there was no cutting knife provided, either. This is a pretty standard tool for camping and the response we got was that we were being a bit demanding.

Our Suzuki was an excellent vehicle and it performed admirably of the F-roads!! It was well maintained and cared for. The staff at Northern Lights were quick, responsive, and easy to get in touch with. They were the first to welcome me to the country made my experience in Iceland convenient and memorable. Their prices beat the competition and they will surely provide a serious return-on-investment.

Was not a Dacia Logan but a Hunday I30. All was fine, the only problemwe had to wait 40 minutes before someone picked us up to pick up the car.

The car was great, the tent idea on the roof top is super. It would be nice to have a heater for the roof tent, it was august but still some nights was cold. I like the option to go on the F roads that is great with the little Jimmy. The car runs great however it needs some alignment and balancing. The front office customer service needs some training on customer service. Nothing bad just needs improvement, the most important part of the business is the contact with the customer.

The car was good, though the steering wheel was a bit shaky at speeds between 70/80. Furthermore the roof tent was fine but during windy and rainy weather, water came insight and it became wet. In addition, the cooking stove was not really working properly as we were not able to adjust the flame. These are some small drawbacks concerning the equipment - would be good if these would be fixed for the next customer. But in general we are satisfied with your service.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The 4x4 was reliable. Unfortunately for the money, approx $100/day, the car was very old.
