Northern Lights Car Rental in Iceland

The Suzuki vitara met all our needs.

It was okay, except for the problems we had the first day with the battery and the gas levels. We phoned several times and the first time we phoned the person who took the phone was very rude and didn't want to help us. The rest of them very well. The car and the transportation to and from the airport was als okay.

When we finally received it after 48 hours, it was great.

Tent was excellent. Car - not so much! The condition of the car was quite bad with several issues. Loose belt chain so we woke up a few whole campsite with a screaming sound from then engine when it was cold. Hole in spinkler system and windscreen wiper defect. Ratteling doors and loose gearbox. No response on the mails we were told to send when we talked to customers service. We complained at the return of the car and got one days rent in refund. That was good - even though it took some discussion. We left with the impression that the handeling of customers and cars was far to busy and not thoroughly done.

We had a great stay in Iceland, and the car was fine for the cheap price. But it consumes a lot of gas! We had to refill it every day. If you just need the car to drive short distances, it is totally fine, but not for a round trip and not F-road. Regarding Norhtern Lights Car Rental, it depends on who you are talking with and who will be on the pick-up/drop-off day. We had some problems with the rooftent and had to wait 5 hours until someone came and we called a few times and sometimes there was a rude guy, who did not wanted to listen to us. But there was also one guy, who was really helpful und listened and tried his best to help us.

Northbound representatives are very responsive in replying to emails. Excellent service. Thank you.

Everything is beyond good I’d say. 4WD with sport and mud/sand mode allows for all conditions of road. 24/7 airport shuttle service is fantastic for flight at anytime. It would be better if there is a suggestion on the website about the car insurance.

I did not get an Kia Sportage wich i ordered, but a Hyundai Tucson. The car was great, and i have also had the same car and model last year in Iceland.

Everything was great, renting was easy and the team very polite. The car was amazing took us everywhere for 2 weeks, was difficult to say goodbye. And Iceland was unbelievable, such powerful landscapes.

Hi, We are 2 french people of 50 years old.We rent a Suzuki Jimny from 24 of july till 7 of august 2019. We enjoyed very much with this small and practical car which could afford us taking F roads. The roof tent above it is large enough and so easy to open and close it. We never hard cold in it. We recommend the car rental 4/4 Company We had no problem with it. It occured that our car went once out of order because of a engine hose which broke. One hour and a half later a mechanic came to take our car to is garage located 75 km further on. Even if we had to wait for several hours, a person of Car rectal 4/4 came to rescue us with a new radiator at one am ! Then she came back to Reykjavik during the night. It was very appreciated by us. So we recommend this company and Northbound.

Renting a car in Iceland is a serious business because of all the potential weather and road conditions that you can endure through the duration of the trip. They have to be very thorough with you (understandably) when you go through the process of picking up the car in terms of coverage and paperwork, so some patience is required there. They had someone waiting for us at the airport exit to drive us to the car pickup which made that very easy. The Suzuki Vitara was a great car for our week in Iceland as it fit our family of five well (three teenager children) and had a good sized trunk for our bags. It also handled the the couple of unpacked roads we had to go on to get to some hikes very well. When we dropped off was when they excelled. As we pulled in, the shuttle bus was leaving and when the driver saw us, she stopped and came back in to pick us up for the five minute shuttle ride back to the airport. When they did the post rental walk around the car they noticed a very small chip in the windshield that I was 99% sure was there when we got the car, but not 100% sure since I didn’t take a photo of the windshield (you are encouraged to take picture of all parts of the car to protect yourself from just such a thing when you start and I took pictures of all the body segments but not the windows!). They could have made a big issue of it for us but handled it beautifully (since it was such a small mark). Very good company and people with the lowest rates I could find online for our week. We will use them again when we go back!

We were very happy with our car rental experience! Everything went according to plan and the car we were given was actually an upgrade from the Jimny which was a pleasant (and spacious) surprise. The pick up and drop off were both clearly explained and easy! The communication in the lead up to our collection date was also great and all our questions were answered. We would happily use these guys again :)

The service and efficiency were very good. We first got a car where the air conditioning gave warm air. We got a new and better car right away and we were super happy. It made our holiday extra good. The drive to the airport with a super efficient lady was a bit of the hard work for our daughter. She became very car sick due to the hard driving. So a little more gentle and quiet driving would have been preferable. We can recommend you as a car rental company.

The car was perfect for my family. We had 2 booster seats and a carseat and it all fit in there pretty well!! The back had plenty of space for our bags and even the baby stroller. The car was great on gas and only had to fill it up a few times while we were in Iceland. I would definitely recommend this vehicle to a family of 5 with little kids. We were all very comfortable. Overall the experience was good. I was able to make a change to my plans, added a day due to Wowair going out of business, with no issue at all. The car was in good shape, the shuttle was prompt. They could speed up check in a bit, however during check in they did ask if I was driving the ring road and warned of the tunnel that is only payable by internet so that was very helpful. Based on the overall experience, should I visit Iceland again-and I do love Iceland-I will rent from Northern Lights.

Very satisfied. Just before we went to Iceland, we decided to upgrade our car. Because of the luggage. Later we noticed that if you want to go on small roads, it is essential that you have a good car. In essence: the car made our vacation in Iceland from successful to very successful. Northbound helped us very well with upgrading the car, and with a very friendly service.

Jimmy had 175k on it and was worn out. To say it wallowed in the wind was putting it mildly. After using 4x4 the wheels locked up and a mechanic was needed to in unlock them, cost us 25,000k.

Très bonne première expérience pour une première fois en 4x4. Tente qui isole bien du froid et de la pluie. On a pu passer tous les gués sur les f- road de notre parcours (juillet 2019). La voiture ne consomme pas beaucoup. Sièges chauffants bienvenus ! Attention toutefois, mon mari qui mesure 1,83m rentrait pile poil en longueur dans la tente.

We got a bigger car for free because the other one wasn't available. It was a very new Dacia Duster, which was super nice to drive. The tent sadly wasn't so nice. It was always quite wet on all sides of the mattress and the pillows were disgusting (very old, stinky and dirty)... we always wrapped them in a towel to sleep on them... I'd give the car a 5/5. But i'd definitely take a car to sleep inside next time. Roof tents are surely a cool thing for warm areas where it rarely ever rains but not really for Iceland in my opinion... It's sadly impossible to get it dry again...

First car with problems, no rescue wheel ....I have discover that by myself just before to leave.....so their control is really not serious. They change the car on site, for a old Dacia Duster not very clean inside... but it has made the job. Three orange light on during all the travel, 2800km...... They told us not to care with them.
