Car Rentals in Iceland

The Dacia Duster was a good choice for our trip in March. Everything went very smooth. For our next trip to iceland we will definatly choose again northbound and in special Lava Auto.

Pure the didn't Come up at the air Port only After phonening Thema two Timse and a delay of nearly one hour. The car was in a bad condition the right real Light didn't Work asonly one example

We were upgraded from VW Up to Nissan Qashqai as they didn't have the Up so pretty happy with that. Satnav we'd booked not available so were given a refund and the wifi dongle (also booked) for free and used our phone maps. Worked fine so would just book wifi if using again. Only hitch was that we'd arranged a pick up of the at 7.00 am but no one had turned up by the time we were being picked up at 8.00 so we had to leave key with reception which meant we couldn't get confirmation there was no damage. Turned out ok when I emailed them but was a slight concern. Still pleased with the was Northbound organised everything.

Great Service! Were having an issue closing the roof top carrier(new to it nothing wrong with the equipment) and they were ready to be with us in few minutes but we figured out on our own.

The Jimny we booked was broke down so we got freely upgraded to a Dacia duster which was amazing, we got our headlights blown out on our last day, but the blue lagoon got them replaced in just 30 minutes free of charge, and the service was absolutely fantastic

Camping Cars offered us a great experience! They picked us up from the airport for free, and dropped us off at the end of our trip. They prepared us for everything we needed to know about how to use the tent and tips on how to get around Iceland. The car was a perfect camping combination for Iceland: 4x4 SUV and a roof tent that was well-insulated against the cold. I think that type of car is the best way to get around Iceland!

We arrived at the airport and the pick up was not there. After 45 minutes, a guy came but there was another couple waiting for a pick up. We had to separate our family so that my husband could go pick up the car with the couple( there was not room enough for all). He said we would have a discount but we did not. Our invoice with North Bound was in isk but at Rent a wreck, all was in euros. We could not compare and be sure it was the right amount. There were lights flashing in the car saying one door was open, but it was not. There were no lights in the car. The key holder for automatic opening and closing of the doors did not work. We were very disappointed. The day after, there was snow and there was no snow Broom. I would not recommend to anyone.

Mostly everyone we interacted with was friendly and kind. I picked up our rental after landing in Reykjavik at 4am, so it was dark and early. The person who handed off my car to me was unable to show me the previous damage on the car, and a cracked bumper that was there before we had on the car was not noted as precious damage. There were some things off with the car: the speedometer was off, but they had included a GPS that we had opted out of that showed us the correct speed. The fuel gauge was off, so we never knew quite when to gas up. The driver's side door could only be locked and unlocked manually. Sometimes when opening a door, the blinkers for the car would turn on. The alignment of the wheels was a bit off. We called every time we noticed things were off, including when we noticed the damage to the bumper. We were fairly certain that we hadn't caused this damage, but when we called, the person on the phone said we would be liable because it wasn't marked as previous damage. We spent a part of our trip being really stressed that we would have to pay for this mysterious bumper crack. When I returned the car, thankfully a very friendly person helped me and let me know that this damage was already there, and not to worry. I should have taken pictures beforehand, but it was really dark that early in the morning and difficult to see properly. That being said, we had a safe trip driving the ring road, and this was a more affordable 4x4 rental than other companies. Wish we knew about the speedometer and ge fuel gauge, which were the most concerning issues.

Car are maintained well condition and are suit to small group of 2 persons for travel. Fuel save and easy handle, no issue at all for Route 1 Ring Road!

My general experience with NorthernLightsCarRental and Northbound was perfect. The contact with Northbound was quite efficient. The car (Dacia Duster) chosen by Northbound's comparison site was functional, cosy and has never failed us during our stay in Iceland. I recommend Northbound strongly!

It was good overall, but unfortunately when I arrived the Toyota Rav4 I reserved was not available so I was given an SUV in the same class with comparable features. The Hyundai SUV I was given was still reliable but the RAV4 (at its price) was a big reason I actually chose Lava Auto.

I had a great experience with Lava Auto! The process of getting the car was extremely easy (we were picked up at the airport exactly when we had arranged to be picked up), the car we rented (a 2017 Dacia Duster) was in great condition and did well driving in all types of weather and road conditions on our trip around the Ring Road, and we were not given any unexpected charges when we came to return the car at the end of our trip. No, I can't find my Outlander when I arriving. Maybe the car had been lent, and then the receptionist let me choose any car I like in this place. Also, the receptionist is too busy. He have to process the work about rental car and pick up service at same time, just one person in your office. Maybe it is the reason why we waited over one hour at airport. Anyway, very thank you for your help to accomplish my journey.

The car was great. It fit all 6 of us but the rear seats were very cramped. The experience with ice rentals was reasonably good. On the way back, no one was in the office. There was a note on the door to call and someone would be there in 5 mins, which they were, but it was unexpected and I don't think I would have had that happen had we gone with another brand of rental.

I was hopeful when I saw the positive reviews for Rent a Wreck on the northbound website, but don't be mistaken. You really are getting terrible cars. Our first car was swapped half way though our trip from what sounded like bad bearings or a really poorly misaligned brake. Either way we felt it was not safe to drive any longer and we're concerned that we would get stranded somewhere. I will say that rent a wreck worked hard to swap us out for a new vehicle, but not until I had contacted them multiple times, which is the only reason they aren't getting a flat 1 star. Upon receiving the second car, which was supposed to be approved for F road usage (I should note that this car had less clearance than our previous one, but was newer) started sounding like there were loose bolts jostling around in the engine on the second day of our drive. I should mention that we never did any hard driving...a couple of gravel roads, but 98% paved. I didn't ever feel 100% confident in these cars and I will not rent from them again if I ever return to Iceland. Anyone looking to do ANY gravel roads should seriously consider renting elsewhere.

We were a group of 12 people and rented 3 Dacia Dusters. The cars were new and totally in line with their descriptions by the Co. We received an excellent support from Runar Thor even when we were still planning our journey, and would like to thank him dearly for all the efforts he put into making sure our trip went smoothly. Loved the Dacia Duster, it handled perfectly on the icy, snowy roads. The heated seats and GPS were an added bonus.

Great! Comfortable car. We never had any problem. And we drove it during the winter. I was looking for the "perfect" car and also with the rental office located very close to the airport. I did not like the companies that were AT the airport. Northbound was 5mns away. We even got to leave the car at the airport on the way back which made it very convenient as we had to be at the airport by 500 am! Will definitively pick Northbound on our next trip. Also the price was very comparable if not a little bit cheaper.

Very good. Quick pickup from the airport for the short ride to the office. No problems with the Subaru and the return was fast and easy.

Our experience with Lava Auto was incredible. The Dacia Duster was met our expectations and was as expected in the ad. We love our stay in Iceland and will recommand Lava Auto.

I have the car for 16 days, and the car is generally fine. One of the staff is very unprofessional in the checkout process. I bought the most experienced insurance package, and the guy warns me that dent, suspension, etc. are not covered. I have rented cars around the world for over 30 years, what's the purpose of buying insurance if none of these things are covered. If they are not, I think it should stated clearly during my online booking, rather than last minute when I am checking out a car and cannot find any other alternative. The car has a faulty flat tire sensor which is on 20 minutes after I drove off the rental location till I return the car. I call the emergency hotline multiple times, no one answered and no one called me back. I was stuck in snow once and called the emergency hotline, no one responded or called me back. I called the downtown office. The agent told me, "I just worked here, please call the emergency line." Luckily, someone drove by and helped me out. I found them unprofessional and unable to help when I needed it. Northbound experience is good, it was fast and easy, but Icerental 4x4 was disappointed. Luckily, I didn't have any other trouble.
