terrible the car was 200.000 km old !!!! i think it we the oder rental car ever seen the cross lights were not functional it uses 10l/100km for such a small car not very good to protect the planet the driver door didn’t close correctly so i had to fix it manually with tools when i think that it cost me more than 500€ i prefere to forget

It's a good car. IceRental4x4 needs to do a better job of maintaining their vehicles. A couple things we found were: 1. tires were too worn out 2. windshield wiper blades were worn out 3. keyless fob were low on batter 4. vehicle was rusted in the front 5. front lights were not clear

My first impressions weren’t great. I was met by a gruff staff member at the airport who told us that there wasn’t enough space in the van transferring us to the office so I had to leave my husband behind. This caused a level of anxiety in case it would be difficult to find each other again once I got the car. After arriving at the office there were two young chaps booking people in at a rate that was torturous. I waited, in line, for 45 minutes despite only having about 5 people in front of me, before so was finally sat down. The hard-sell crap was distasteful though by this point I shot so many daggers at your staff they didn’t bother trying to sell anything to me. Still, I upgraded the insurance as I’ve done my research before arriving. There was a problem with the Jimny so we were “upgraded” to a Suzuki Vitara. The car made very unhealthy noises the whole four days we had it, it had all sorts of warning lights on and generally speaking it felt like it was dying on us. The drop off experience was what it should have been. Quick, to the point, and didn’t have to wait around to be taken to the airport. Shame that we had to start our anniversary trip with being so incredibly frustrated at your offices.

Our experience was poor. The company operate a business model that charges high excesses for damages to customers upon vehicle return, for a minor scratch we did not believe had been caused by us. Whilst our experience with Northbound booking agency was excellent, our overall experience was poor.

Office staff were very rude and not helpful. This was the only experience we had in Iceland that was unpleasant. I would never recommend renting from here.

There were problems with Iceland 4x4 regarding the car's 4x4 functionality and some of the customer service. I've already addressed this with Iceland 4x4 and they have given me credits to make amends; though appreciated, I may be hard pressed to consider them again.

Not very good really as we had a bad experience with the vehicle sliding off the road on 2 Occassions due to tyre selection. Saturday was totally wasted because of this as we lost lots of time waiting to be recovered and driving around at a snails pace whilst other motorists with studded winter tyres were able to travel the same route with no problem at all. Our confidence in the vehicle/tyres was shattered. You did exchange the vehicle for one fitted with studded tyres which made a massive difference to vehicle control. We were refunded 1 day's hire fee for the inconvenience but while I reflect on this now I don't think it was adequate compensation as we missed a day out 3 days to travel around the country and my wife was really scared by the experience. Lesson here is that if you're going to hire out cars with winter tyres without studs you should warn motorists of the dangers or just fit tyres that are studded.

Our pickup was about 40 mins late, we we're told that our whole party of 6 would not be able to be shuttled to the pickup, the interior lights did not work, the fuel gauge was not functioning, we we're given about 1/4 tank upon pick up, the damage report was inaccurate (all damage was listed on the wrong side), the parking brake light was difficult

We rented a 10 yo car of 140,000 kilometers, bad state with scratches everywhere. Ok for us. Battery problem after two days and a terrible emergency service : we basically didn't get any help. But still ok for us. At the end of our trip, we give back the car : 90000 isk (750 euros) for scratches already there at the beginning but that we didn't photograph (there were so many of them).

Leider war die Mietwagenfirma eine Enttäuschung. Wir wurden erst 45 Minuten nach vereinbartem Termin vom Flughafen abgeholt und bekamen dann zwar das gebuchte Auto aber ohne Navigationsgerät (mitgebucht, sie hatten auch kein anderes Fahrzeug mehr mit Navi). Zudem war das Fahrzeug in einem sehr schlechtem Zustand: Der Mitarbeiter mußte uns 3x erklären, wie er mit dem Auto rückwärts fährt, sonst hätte es nicht geklappt (mein Mann ist ein guter Autofahrer). Die Handbremse war kaputt, die normale Bremse ging kaum. Die Türen mußten wir aufhalten. Während der Fahrt kam alle 2 Sekunden die Meldung, dass eine Tür nicht ganz zu ist. Und das den ganzen Tag. An einem Tag in der früh ging das Auto garnicht auf. Erst nach 10 Minuten hat es geklappt. Schade. In Deutschland wäre es nie durch den TÜV gekommen.

My experience with Icerental 4x4 was poor. First they were late to pick us up at the airport, which judging by the jokes from the people from the other car rental agencies is a common occurrence. Then when we finally got to the office it was extremely dirty and smelled bad. When they gave me the car it had less than a quarter tank of gas in it and no windshield wiper fluid. Instead of offering to fix the issue I was told just to bring it back the same way. We were supposed to have been given camping supplies including sleeping bags, cooking utensils, and propane. The sleeping bags were not made for an Icelandic climate. I was so cold that I ended up sleeping in the back seat of my car all week with every item of clothing that I had on. We were given half a bottle of cooking fuel, not enough to last for 8 days, and the rooftop tent was not sealed all the way around and offered no protection from the wind or rain. We loved traveling around Iceland during the day but this made the nights absolutely miserable. When we dropped off the car with the same amount of fuel as we picked it up with they tried to charge me for it and I had to remind them how I got it. They also made comments that the outside of the car was very dusty. I didn't drive down a single F road and the car was in the same dirty condui picked it up at. I absolutely loved Iceland but I would never rent from them again.

1. Icerental 4x4 did not have a car ready at the time we booked. The manager kept saying "unfortunately ...." and we had to wait an hour for the car to be ready. 2. The company did not lend me a safe vehicle. The first lent Suzuki Vitara, already run over 180,000Km, had a strange noise and powertrain trouble, so the next day we visit your company again then the mechanic checked and decided to exchange to another car. As a result we lost half day and had to change the itinerary. 3. The newly replaced car, Jeep Cherokee with mileage over 199,000Km, also had serious problem. When we drive near by Myvatn with almost 90Km/h in the corner, the steering wheel become heavy and engine coolant temp went so high suddenly. I had to control the car very carefully and stopped by road side, then contacted the customer service. After 3 hours, one mechanic came from a garage in Myvatn and checked car, finally he recognized timing belt off and he said they don’t have spare parts. At that time, we requested Icerental 4x4 customer service manager(=I heard he is the president of Icerental 4x4.-.-) to send us another car because we don’t want to spend our precious time again but he denied due to long distance. So, we waited again to fix the car by the next day the afternoon. The more surprising fact is.. during the repairing period we called the customer service manager about 20 times, but he only called us one time, which shows that your company is not actively managing your customers. We spent huge money to travel to Iceland including flights tickets, accommodation, guided tours, car rental and many kinds of expanses. However we lost over one and half days due to Icerental 4x4 car trouble 2 times, moreover it was very dangerous situation that could cause serious accident as I wrote above. Icerental 4x4 not responding to any of my emails. Returned car on 30/7/17 and charged 75,000ISK (£500) for a small dent. Was assured that I would receive the paperwork needed for insurance claim. Nothing. Those good reviews were obviously from people who had a trouble-free experience but if, like me, you experience a problem - beware as they are not very co-operative.

Very bad experience. We rented 2 cars. Very bad condition: car with 125000 kms odometer; trunk did not close; R.passenger door diid not open from the inside; light of gas gasket was on 80 percent of the time; gas guzzler The back of the rental place is filled with crashed cars and tires: very bad impression. Don't know where they get these cars. Unacceptable! Were uneasy during entire trip with a car in this condition.

1. The guy who got to pick us up from the airport was 45 minutes late, did not call us though they had my phone number. 2. The Jimny they gave us was very old, broke down after just one day. If you would have to buy such a wreck of a car, the price would be cheaper than the lease for 2 weeks. Fortunately we were still in the Reykjavik area, they brought us a replacement within short time. 3. The replacement car was an even older big car (Nissan Xtrail), very high fuel consumption, never thoroughly cleaned inside - with one exception: the passenger seat was still wet with a brush cleaner or some other acid detergent. My wife got some severe skin inflamnation at her thighs after 2 hrs drive. We covered the seat with a plastic back and a blanket to move on. We probably could have taken legal action for physical injury. 4. Fortunately the Nissan was technically ok and brought us, sometimes over very rough roads, back to Keflavik. 5. One postive point: Friendly people, like almost everybody in Iceland. 6. 1.0 is still a very friendly rating.

Hi there! Well, all seemed go OK at first, but... the car broke down the third day! It was a bit old and got hot. The company Icerental 4x4 responded reasonably well and provided us a new car four hours after our call (we were 200 km away from Reykiavik) , a Dodge Durango a bit old too but it worked correctly the rest of days although it was a bit dirty. _We will rate 1 the first car but 3 the second one.

We cannot recommend Icerental 4x4! Our Suzuki Grand Vitara 2010 was not worth the Money. On Arrival at the Airport we had to wait over 1 hour for the Transfer to the car although the flight were in time. We had to call them by phone and it takes again 30 Minutes until they arrive at the Airport. The Car, a Suzuki Grand Vitara 2010, 150.000km was terrible worn out, the engine had no power, the gear shift was totally worn out. Remote Control did not work, the aircondition/Ventilation had an error.

Horrifying! Horrifying! The 10 yrs old Hyundai Tuscon with a flimsy sterring broke down due to flat battery while we were at Gullfoss. Call Icerental 4X4 and they refused any assistance claiming that it is our fault for leaving the car lights on causing the battery to run flat. Fortunately, managed to get some help to jump start the car but after driving for about 15 minutes at 90 Km/hr, the car start to jerk very badly. Luckily for us, we managed to turn into a farmhouse before the car come to a complete dead stop due to a flat battery. I cannot imagined if the car has just stop on the road and the danger it posed to other road user who drive at such high speed. The owner of the farmhouse was kind enough to jump start the car for us again but noted the battery is not working properly. Advised us not to drive and help us to contact Icerental 4x4 to tell them the problem and to come with a replacement car. They came in two cars and angrily said that there is nothing wrong with the car after they have test drive but i told them the car run flat after we have managed to get it jump start and drive down from Gullfoss. We insisted and they finally relented to give us a replacement car, a Subaru Forester which is not much better as the dash board lighting is very very dim ( i had to switch on the cabin light in order to read the gauge) and the car only have the right side head light working which i need to use 'High-beam' to ensure it is bright enough for oncoming traffic to see. It was the first "Bad' driving experienced i had, i suspect the real reason for the flat battery is due to alternator problem which is not surprising for a 10 years old car that is so poorly maintained. I thank God that i managed to turn quickly into the farmhouse to ensure the car is out of harm way for other road user. I told my wife we need to get out of the car if it stop in the middle of the road and pray no nasty accident happened. Glad that God hear our prayer and nothing worst came out of this nasty experience. I would give them a 0.1 rating for not offering any assistance instead asked me to seek help by myself. I spent 2 hours going around to seek a pair of jump-start cable. Fortunately, a kind gentlemen from one of the tour bus came to my rescue by pointing me to one of the glacier tour crew. So good luck and pray hard if you want to rent from them.

Had a good experience organising the car rental through Northbound and communication was good, but did not have a good experience with Icerental 4x4. There were issues from the very start - tank was not full despite being told it was (it was closer to being half full, estimated distance left at start was only 300km), passenger side view mirror was cracked but the damage was not marked on our rental form, and we found out when we got to our accommodation that the remote battery was flat and couldn't lock our car (key didn't work manually either on the door, car was pretty old). Tried using the alleged 24 hour emergency number but no one answered. Had to wait to next morning and eventually managed to get through to one of the offices who told us to go get the remote battery replaced and they would reimburse us. Have still not been reimbursed yet. A few days later got a flat tyre in the early morning on the ring road between towns. Could not change the tyre because car was missing the wrench to remove the lug nuts on the wheel. When calling the rental number again the person refused to believe that the wrench wasn't in the car and we had force him to call a service person to come change the tyre and who confirmed that the wrench was missing. No communication from Icerental 4x4 after we returned the car and no reimbursement. Icerental 4x4 probably had the cheapest prices but in future would pay more to rent from a different company.

Major issues. - it took ages to get our car once we arrived at their shed - the car already had major damage to doors which was marked down but the passenger door was always difficult to close. It seems that they charge for each new damage to repair the door but they are not doing this. - I had an unfortunate incident with the wind catching the passenger door and damaging it. I confirm that this was my fault and - They are also claiming damage to the front bumper where paint has come off but there are no dents or indentations. We had no other incidents with the car. We claim that the paint on this exposed edge was taken off in the severe sand/ash storms we experienced for which we had taken out insurance. - Ice Rental 4x4 will not reply to my multiple emails to resolve the issue nor provide me with the required documentation for me to make a claim against my travel insurance in Australia. BEWARE

I’m really disappointed with this car and I strongly think that this car should not be available for renting anymore as we are talking about very important safety reasons. It is true that we are talking about an old car (12 years old) and this is the main reason for this low price. I understand and obviously I can expect some typical things of an old car like scratches, deteriorated paint in external view, tough driving due to not having last advances in driving helps as assisted direction, high petrol consumption, etc… but I have to say that I’ve not been able to enjoy driving this car at any moment as I haven’t felt myself safe any single minute while driving. Let me indicate some examples of my experience. When I took the car at the arrival, at the very first moment I could felt that every time that I pushed the gas pedal a big sound (a crack sound) came from the engine (it is an automatic car) and each time I passed by a bump the bang was frightening. Moreover, In order to go straight in the road, I had to keep the steering wheel slightly turned into the right (in a 20º angle) but just only when pushing the gas pedal, if I released the gas pedal, direction seemed to take the normal way so the wheels turned to the right and the car started to turn as this was the position of the steering wheel. Having seen that, after 10 min driving in those conditions I had to go back to the icerental office as I had the feeling that something was going wrong with the car. There, they told me that the big coups (it sounds like if the dumping of the car was broken) and the steering wheel direction issue were normal things that I should get used to the car and drive slower than normal. The said that everything was fine with the car and that it had been revised by a mechanic the previous week and nothing went wrong. However, I had the typical message in the onboard car that maintenance was needed. I have to say that after 10 days driving this car that is has been the most dangerous thing I’ve ever done. Obviously I didn’t get used to the car, which was completely unstable, unpredictable driving and unsafe feeling. I had to drive always by the middle of the track in order to have enough time to react when the car suddenly turned to a direction, and cannot tell every time I saw a truck coming in the opposite lane (of course they did not reduce their velocity). Besides, I was not able to go more than 60 km/h, what it makes the timing for my holidays even straight because it took me almost the double of time to arrive to each place I went. Apart from this I have to say that even I can understand that this was an old car (I took it consciously) and I could expect some difficulties (I have a 12 years old car although I know that is not the same a car in Iceland than in other place) or high petrol consumption, the petrol consumption of this car was amazing! I didn’t feel confident of being able to go from Egglistadir to Askja with a full tank so I had to do hitch-hiking to ensure I was going to have enough petrol to arrive to the next gas station. But as I said I could even expect this an nothing would have happened. Just to finalize, I consider myself a very good driver (I’m 34, so young enough to have good time reaction skills and experienced enough in car driving, 15 years of car license) and I think that mine should be the last trip of this car. If any older person had rented this car instead of me, we could be talking about an accident. I know it sounds exaggerated, I’m reading it and it seems so, but please go there as a ghost customer and try the car by yourself. I know you are a young company and want to do as better as possible and even your service has been fantastic I would make really sure if use again your company not to rent to irecental anymore in my life.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. they gave me an old 4x4 car with the wheels in a very bad condition. I got a flat a tire in the middle of nothing and, while I was changing the wheel, I noticed a lot of little holes around it. I REALLY RISKED MY LIFE. They imposed me to pay the full price of the tire as well. Avoid to reserve any car from icerental 4x4.
