When we arrived at Rent.is to collect the car, we were initially provided with a Renault Express, despite having booked a guaranteed model (a Fiat Doblo Maxi). The staff... Read more maintained that the “guaranteed model” referred only to a category (including Renault Express, Kanguroo, and Doblo Maxi). Aften much back and forth, we therefore agreed that I would contact support the following day, as they were only able to offer a Renault Express at that time. However, just as we were about to leave the parking lot, we were given new keys to a Fiat Doblo Maxi. While this outcome was appreciated, the time spent going back and forth during the process was frustrating and unsatisfactory. Our understanding is that this miscommunication arises from differing interpretations of the term “guaranteed model.” Northbound appears to apply one interpretation, whereas rent.is applies another when bookings are made directly through them. This discrepancy was unfortunately to our disadvantage in this instance."

While Iceland is known for being expensive, I found the car rental pricing surprisingly reasonable and comparable to what I’ve paid elsewhere in Europe. I also opted for the insurance package, which made the entire road trip completely stress-free. Over the following days, I drove thousands of kilometres around Iceland without having to worry about the unexpected. A special shout-out as well to Ívar, the CEO of Northbound for a personalised message. As the founder of a bootstrapped startup myself, I appreciate businesses that maintain a personal touch as they grow. One tire was leaking in the drive which I had to pay for, and I believe this wouldn't have happened if the tires were in better conditio... Read moren. The car was poorly equipped without AC, so warmer days are extremely difficult. No carplay available as well, though this is standard on low spec dusters before 2023."

Read moreed into a hotel room as to not sleep in such an unhygienic bed. - The supplied refrigerator did not work - No supplied towels despite paying specifically for towels in our booking - Insufficient cooking utensils, no chopping board, sharp knife or tea towels Despite these challenges we were able to contact Konvin and arrange for a reimbursement of essential items, primarily new bedding (we are still yet to receive this though). They also offered a one-day refund for our troubles."
