The option to rent a car in Iceland was a must, and do it with Icerental 4x4 was fantastic from the very first moment. Our experience could be summarized in 3 points: a very close and personal treatment, the ease at all levels, and very professional service.

The car was an older model but in good shape, not many damages. The headlights were somehow a bit too weak for the Icelandic winter.

Hello Thor, hello guys, First of all, Iceland and whole trip was amazing. But really f***ing amazing, it beauty of your country and kindness of your people blew me away. About Suzuki, car is adequate for Iceland roads. It is well equipped, and it has amazing heating system. It is comfortable enough for 4 people. What I didn't like about it is that gas mileage is not great and it could use 6th gear. It's not a greatest SUV but it's ok, we clearly opted for cheaper solution and for what we payed it was quite good. One thing to watch out, guys please change batteries in key fobs, remote lock and unlock did not work in any of our cars. All in all car was good but experience itself was amazing. Icerental 4x4 was really good. All the staff were very kind and accommodating. They have a shuttle service to and from their office and the airport and are open 24/7. The only reason why I didn't give them an exemplar rating was because of a few reasons. 1) They were about 30 minutes late than the scheduled meeting time -- causing me to text their local number and thus, be charged mobile carrier rates -- and stress out a little bit. 2) The car we rented was in good condition, however in about the middle of our trip, one of the water pipes came out and we lost 2L of water. Thankfully we were at Akureyri (Iceland's 2nd largest town) and they have a service center in that area that solved the problem for me. The Icerental 4x4 staff was very helpful when we had the breakdown and made sure the problem was solved right away. 3) The large deposit required. I was asked to block €2,500 off my credit card as safety deposit for the car. I wasn't really aware of this as it was my first time ever renting a car and it is not blatantly stated on the website when booking, but it was explained to me when I was in front of their desk about to take the car. Of course, to avoid the deposit you can just pay for a premium insurance package. However, as a student and someone who is on a tight budget, I did not have the funds to pay for that kind of insurance, so I just opted to block that amount in my credit card (my credit card is tied to my mom's, so it's actually her credit too). It caused a lot of stress because I didn't clearly understand it and I was constantly worried about them frauding me and not releasing the block and thus charging me. I returned the car December 18th and it is December 27th today and as of now, the block still has not been released. They told me to wait at least about 14 working days from the day of returning the car for the block to uplift, so I will still give them time before following up. Overall, the car was good and we did not have any problems with it. Upon checkout, the staff were really nice and did not give me a hard time. We took extra care of the car, making sure to watch the doors when we open it in strong winds, inspecting every inch of it (make sure you take a video of it when you first receive it in order to account for all the damages incase they try to charge you for it in the end), making sure to drive in paved roads and to overall just drive carefully. When the staff checked the car, he did not see any new damages and thus did not charge us. We came to Iceland just after a huge storm and were worried that the car would not be able to brave the icy roads and strong winds, but it pulled through even greater than I could have imagined! It is also my first time driving in such conditions, and the car did not fail me. Also, another tip-- arrive to the office for return HOURS earlier than your flight. As I have read horror stories on previous reviews, sometimes they will inspect the car and give you a hard time and charge you or there might be no staff to accommodate you at the hour, causing you to be late for your flight and stress out. Luckily this did not happen to me and my friends, but as friendly advice do arrive to the office at least 4-5h before your flight -- worst thing that could happen is that you arrive early to the airport. Better safe than sorry!

Hi there, Our first Car from Icerental 4x4 was an old car and the heating stopped working when we were on the road, we had to stop in a little village, and call the rental service. In cause of this problem we had to change the car, after 2 hours they brought us a new car, but we lost half a day waiting for it (in our short journey). After that inconvenience we had a good trip around Reykjavik. When we brought back the second car to Rental Service the transaction was easy and fast.

The car we hired from Icerental 4x4 had some serious problems with the headlights. The plastic was not clear and blocked a good amount of light coming out. In the 3rd day, after driving about 200 km at night and trying my best not to go off the road every time I had a car coming from the front, I contacted the company telling them the problem and asking for a replacement car. They asked me to go back to Keflavik and exchange the car, they did't have anybody to send to Reykjavik (or didn't want to do it). As it was already 10 PM, and I had to rest for the next morning's trip that started at 5:00 AM, I was forced to pass the offer and to keep the car. Although it was my decission, I felt like I was't helped as I should have. I paid in advance, with full insurence, so I expected they would come to me, not me to them on my own time and expense. Anyway, I would like to thank Northbound for the TOP service they provided, and Rúnar for his dedication. Keep up the good work! I would definitely recommend Northbound!
