Lava Car Rental in Iceland

Really loved renting this car it’s not the most powerful or fancy car but it got two of us all the way round the ring road in February and wasn’t expensive to rent or to fill up, it heats up really quick inside and heated seat work great too, would definitely rent again.

Northbound and Lava made the experience seamless and easy. The car performed great in the Icelandic winter conditions. The folks at Lava were very friendly and helpful and Northbound was a great communicator on behalf of me when I had to seek help with alternative arrangements when my initial flight was cancelled.

We were worried about hiring a camper as seen loads of reviews online saying certain company’s are scams etc However the staff at lava were great and gave us no issues.

The car was good, very new, at minus 15 just started at the first try. Lava Car Rental is very easy to go with, friendly stuff helped me out to catch my plane, a big thank you!!!

We were very happy with the vehicle we rented. It is important for us to have exactly what we have booked. (We have had a bad experience in an other car rental company, where we have paid for a 4x4, and NOT received this…). The shuttle to the airport is important too…! And the car was very comfortable, clean, and with the bad routes we have had, the road holding was excellent!

nzuverlässiger Service, wir hatten zur Abholung einen Shuttle gebucht und wurden erst eine Stunde später nachdem wir angerufen haben abgeholt. Bei der Rückgabe war trotz Öffnungszeit ab 5 Uhr niemand da, wieder erst nach Anruf kam jemand. Wir konnten unseren Mietwagen so erst um 6 Uhr abgeben und hätten fast unseren Flug verpasst.

Really enjoyed driving the vitara was great fun,had some pretty heavy snow on the roads we travelled to see the lights and she handled them very well,lots of space im 6 foot 4 and didn't feel cramped at all a great all rounder.

Lovely motor, it handled everything icelamd threw at us .

This is my first time hiring a car and driving on the left right. I had a great experience using Northbound and the Lava rental were really helpful. The car was a in a great condition and auto drive was really helpful as I am a manual driver.

What a lovely vehicle ,was clean and what an easy hire

Using Northbound for our trip was the perfect choice, staff were extremely friendly and very helpful, their communication before and during our stay was great and the Land Cruiser behaved very well.

The hire went really smoothly. We were picked up from the airport within 5 minutes and the car collection was quick and easy. We got helpful emails on the weather while we were in Iceland and the overall customer service was excellent. Drop off was equally quick and easy and we were dropped back at the airport in no time. Having had some less pleasant car hire experiences, this was really good. Would recommend.

This was a fantastic deal on a great car. We got upgraded for free to a bigger and automatic car since this model was unavailable. The rental company was excellent and even stayed in touch to check in how we were doing and share weather warnings. Will use Northbound again!

Good. No problem with thé car . We send an e-mail before to lava and gave thé number fly and thé horaire but there was nobody to thé chek point ! We must call lava ans waiting for thé shuttle

The Land Cruiser was ideal for our trip needed all the space for 5 adults and luggage, and of course big coats! An amazing country, the service at Lava rentals was disappointing, shuttle bus was not at airport to pick us up even though they had requested flight details beforehand, when eventually got picked up the car was not there and we had to wait about for over an hour, missing our restaurant reservation, all offered was GPS and wifi, we used neither as had maps via car Apple play, on returning the car I forgot to fill tank back up as was wary of our time, was then charged 14.000kr for half tank, a full tank was only 20.000kr, the staff member needs to work on his customer service skills, no conversation at all, kind of rude which was complete opposite to our experience of the 5 days/nights travelling Iceland(not the person on arrival he was very nice and chatty), very disappointed to have been charged for the half tank after initial experience and we also took the full insurance package so I would say Lava rentals did well out of us, we will be back to Iceland as loved the country and the people, but unlikely to rent from Lava next time

Excellent service provided by Lava. Got the exact car that was booked in very good condition. Smooth transfer from airport to car rental, and vice versa. Minimum time spent to do paperwork, no waiting at counter. Thank you Northbound!

Everything went smoothly, from rental process to dropping off the vehicle at the end of our trip. No complaints about either LAVA or Northbound.

We liked the booking system with Northbound, but picking up the car with Lava rentals was just okay. The man was not very helpful and when we checked the car over after he gave us the keys, we noticed the front passenger door was damaged and a little difficult to close properly. When I went back into the office, he didn't want to come and look at the problem and just told me to take a photo of it, which I did but that was difficult in the dark. When we returned the car, they asked to see the photo and we had to insist the door was already damaged when we picked it up. Everything was ok in the end, and the man that dropped us off at the airport was very kind. The car itself was the absolute minimum of what we needed, its wheelbase was quite low to the ground so we did have problems and got stuck in the snow once. I do have to stress that the weather conditions were exceptionally bad and many of the locals said that the type of snow was unusual. So not really the car's fault, but if we ever go back to Iceland in the winter, we will definitely spend extra and hire a better 4WD.
