Very good experience. No hassles with pickup and dropoff. Quick communication (we had to change pickup place and time). Car in good condition. Insurance packages clearly explained.

Hello! Everything went well, aside from a minor defect we noticed in the front mirror that would get slightly loose when closing the window. We reported that to your colleagues and apparently it was a known issue. Another minor thing that, according to your colleagues was a known issue, the air conditioning seemed not to be very clean at times. Maybe some minor issue with the filtering. It was nothing important though. The crew from the agency that handed the car to us was very helpful, quick and was always there. We delivered the car at around 9 pm and we waited literally nothing for the crew to attend to us. Very efficient. The card behaved very well, we did not experience any issues whatsoever. It was a great journey, with good weather, bad weather, all sorts of experiences... an adventure.

Staff at pick up and drop off were very friendly and helpful under pressure if a little caotic at the drop off office. Biggest problem was when we booked the car I asked for a Honda CR-V (boot capacity 589 litres) and we were only offered a Hyundai Tucson with only (488 litres of boot space ) which was impossible to get our 5pieces of luggage in plus 5 people. The young lady at the office then tried to get them to bring a Honda which I had originally booked but the staff were saying it was only 8cm larger when in fact it is 100 litlres larger per specifications. So we then had to upgrade to a Hyundai Santa Fe for apparently a good deal but which still cost more than the Honda and the boot space of (585liters ) was still not as large as the honda’s so I must say we were a bit dissaponted. Other than that we had a great holiday many thanks.

Car was ok, a bit run down. Many dents, etc which took a while to identify at pick-up. Had to wait 20 mins on arrival for pickup from airport to rental office. Shorter wait during return. Rear wipers not working that well, and remote key battery was almost out. Reported that when I returned the car. Wished the person before me had reported this too! On the plus side, realised that weather and road conditions ( gravel roads especially ) in Iceland would make the car rundown quite easily. So renting a new car is not a good idea if you are doing a full ring road circuit. On coming cars can splash a lot of water and grit etc on your vehicle, especially on gravel roads. Taking gravel protection insurance is a must in my view.

Great - we returned to your company two days later when we picked up 2 more passengers; we could NOT fit all of our luggage in the car but after some rearranging - and some coaching by your staff, we did. Your staff even offered us to unload the clothes out of the suitcases and leave it there for storage if we needed. We appreciate the honesty about getting a REALLY large vehicle, the expense (two week rental) and the offer. Additionally, the checkout was quick. Thanks, Ramona

The car itself wasn't in good condition. GPS was outdated, brake was squeaky, gas consumption was high. However I appreciate the customer service.

I can definetelly recommend this car rental! Really helpful and nice stuff, no problems by car return. When we had a problem with the burnt out bulbs, they advised us during our call where we can change them and they gave us money back when we gave back the car. Thank you for nice experience!

Fully satisfied. As soon as we arrived at the airport there was immediately the shuttle that took us to the office to get the car. I booked a Suzuki Jimny, but since there was no available at that time they upgraded us with a Dacia Duster. Excellent car. Rentale highly recommended.

The car was having a nice engine and operating correctly in all situations we had, despite the fact we found it clean outside but full of trash inside, with dog hair sicking in every seat, and dust and soil in the floor. Car behaviour = 4 Cleaning = 1

I had a great experience with Icerental. Our shuttle was ready and waiting at the airport, the staff was friendly, and the vehicle was in great shape. We noticed a scratch halfway through the trip that we hadn't reported, but found it in photos taken at the time of pick up. We showed the employee on returning it and he made a note and that was the end of it- very easy to resolve! I plan to use this organization again on my next trip to Iceland, and would recommend them to anyone.

Overall, good experience, had a little bit of trouble determining the return location. The car was smaller than advertised. For US clients you might consider calling the vehicle I rented a "Crossover" as opposed to an "SUV" given its actual size. Those issues aside, would use Icerental 4x4 again.

The car itself and employees were quite nice, but picking up and dropping off the car could have been better. For pickup, we were expecting to see someone with an Icerental sign, but had to call the office and someone came to pick us up (thank you!), so having clearer instructions for pickup would have been nice. Dropping off the car was also confusing. Our flight was departing at 6:00am so we got to the Icerental office around 4:15am but no one was there. After waiting about 20 minutes someone finally showed up, but it would have been nice to know what was going on, maybe a sign in the office saying what time someone would be back.

The guys who drives us to airport and back was really nice and even gave us few advice for road, how to drive, where to go. Good job guys!

The Hyundai i30 was unavailable, and they upgraded us to a Suzuki Vitara. The small jeep was in an ok shape, some small things not functioning and rusty, but perfectly ok for a smooth ride. The guy who gave us the car was pleasant, checked and marked everything on the car, explained everything. When returning the car a different guy was not as pleasant and welcoming, but checked the car quickly, everything was fine, and with no hussle at all drove us back to the airport. I'd recommend IceRental 4x4.

Regarding the car pick-up : the airport shuttle was great (the agency is ca. 10km from KEF), the desk agent comprehensively explained what was covered by the insurances I took and what wasn't, and he was patient while I read throught the contract. Regarding the car : I booked a Suzuki Vitara which was comfy, nice to drive even on F-roads and gas efficient. The only downsides where that the windshield wipes were almost useless and that the infotainment system wasn't up to date (I couldn't use Android Auto). Regarding the car return (at 4:30 AM) : I was in a hurry to catch my flight, but once I found the rental agency it only took a few minutes for the agent to check the car and sign a paper attesting that I wasn't liable for any damage.

My comments on vehicle hire 4-8 April 2018 1. The security deposit, 547,000 ISK (approx. £3,700) was way above anything I was used to; as it exceeds my credit card limit I had to take the SCDW cover. 2. Northbound are not the vehicle provider; my contract for hire was with Icerental 4x4; any operational issues were passed to them. 3. Neither company has a presence at Keflavik airport; the Icerental depot was about 10 minutes away; the pick-up was late; I had been supplied with Icerental’s telephone number, so at least I was able to find out what was happening. 4. The Suzuki Grand Vitara we hired seemed okay, but we discovered a number of issues as we drove: a. The driver’s door was not weatherproof, as the blizzard we encountered near Akureyri convincingly demonstrated, by admitting sleet through the ill-fitting door. b. It seemed generously equipped with points for charging electrical gizmos, two front, one on the back; when the Garmin GPS gave up the ghost 50 km from Keflavik, we realised the front passenger side point was u/s; tried the back one; also u/s. c. The Garmin is not integral, hence having to connect to a charger by a cable, which I dislike. The Garmin seemed unable to recognise Reykjavík, though it did recognise the street for our hotel in Reykyavik, d. The fuel gauge was unreliable; on filling the tank for the first time we noticed the gauge had stuck at half full. We coped by filling up about every 150 km, in case the tank had actually gone lower than half full. As the days went by the thermometer crept up from minus 10c to positive territory and the fuel gauge recovered. e. The Suzuki was thirsty, but we chose the 2.5 litre petrol V6, so that was our choice. f. The wiper blades were worn. g. The key system was the weirdest I have encountered. I like keyless ignition, but instead of a stop/start button, a device (mini version of the filler cap) had to be turned to fire up the V6; and turned the other way to lock up. 5. On the positive side, the Vitara was a joy to drive; with winter tyres it was very sure footed, without which we never would have reached Akureyri via the ice covered Route 1; nor would we have had the confidence to go on gravel roads covered in snow/ice. Northbound scored well in the preparation for this hire; lots of information on their website, a very useful guide (“101”), and they were helpful when you raised a query by chat or email. The only bit in 101 found to be unhelpful was "don't use the fill-up option at petrol stations” (the pumps have a card machine attached; you put your card in and are presented with options: e.g 5000 ISK, 10000 ISK... and also "Fill up"). As we'd no clue what the tank would take, fill-up was the only sensible choice; it did not have the alarming consequences described in 101, of locking up my card. Their most important piece of advice was “check the road conditions map on safetravel.is “. We made a spur of the moment decision to go from Husavik to Asbyrgi to see the north coast, and intended then to go on to Dettifoss. Had we checked on safetravel.is, it would have been apparent that both roads heading south (route 862 and 864) were closed. We did follow another piece of advice; “don’t drive on closed roads” ! We’ll get to Dettifoss next trip. Nick Fairclough 11-Apr-18

We arrived in heavy snow, and had problems because one of the seat belts on the back for our children did not work. We were given a newer vehicle immediately, without fuss, and the whole process went smoothly. On returning the car, there was only one person in the office, which meant a small wait, but he was friendly, helpful and extremely courteous. Would happily use them again

The first vehicle I was provided had numerous problems, including the front windshield wiper noise, inoperable rear windshield wiper, absence of a car seat/booster, radio lights and climate control panel that did not work (which I understand is common in Fords), inability to open the roof rack and faulty tire indicator light. Fortunately, Icerental 4 x 4 replaced the vehicle with one that was in much better shape 24 hours into our rental, and they brought the replacement vehicle to me in Reykavik which was very convenient.
