Lagoon Car Rental in Iceland

We were pleased

Everything went very well. They picked us up from the airport and also gave us a ride somewhere when we gave back the car. The car was very well equipped (cooking gear) and very new. We were very happy to have rented the car there.

Perfect car rental! Everything worked out like it should be. Lagoon Car Rental even helped me to take only the insurances I really need. I was planning to take the sand and ash protection, which isn't necessary when you don't go south. Other companies would've sold every insurance they could.

Everything was great. They had a Lagoon Car rental sign at the airport. The staff was very friendly, nice and efficient. I will definitely rent here again.

Overall it was good! Thanks for your service. The car was running well and we were impressed with the modern road assistant in the car (eye sight tool). But the rear tires we had were a major concern - the threads were so low: almost close to the legal limit! We were afraid of the tire blow-up during our whole trip, which was limited our plan on any rough roads. It was too risk to travel in Iceland using such old tires. The pick up services were good! But the reception service (when arrived) would be better or show some warm welcome.

We were really happy with our car rental experience from Lagoon. The friendly staffer picked us up at 6 am in a driving wind and rain storm. Our car was very clean and handeled nicely. The return process was also very smooth. We were driven back to the airport with sunshine and happy memories of our trip. I would definitely recommend Northbound/Lagoon car rental to all travelers. The rental system seemed complicated when planning our visit but booking online with Northboind was simple and everything went smoothly. The staffer explained everything regarding driving in Iceland as well as discussion of insurance options which seemed confusing online. We chose the tire and gravel insurance since we planned to drive the ring road. Luckily we never needed them but it was a piece of mind for us. There was a lot of gravel and isolated roadways! Thank you very much.

Thank you Runar and Northbound for an incredible Iceland experience! Overall, our rental with Northbound could not have been better save a few minor hiccups. My girlfriend and I rented a brand new, Automatic VW Caddy to road trip the entire Ring Road for 9 days. Coming from New York City with limited outdoors experience, we were slightly concerned about spending 8 nights in a car, but we could not have been more thrilled. The camper was impeccably clean, and perfectly equipped with organizing compartments, pillows/blankets, magnetic curtains for windows, a state-of-the-art stereo system, and attachable tent. It was the perfect vehicle to explore Iceland's awesome beauty safely and comfortably. In the weeks leading up to our trip, I contacted Northbound to make many adjustments to our rental including changing add-ons and rental dates, and Runar, the founder, was always extremely responsive and eager to help with any request. He even contacted the renters directly following my trip to see if they had any flexibility in their pick up time to accommodate my date change request. The responsiveness and willingness to help did not go unnoticed and definitely assured us our trip was in good hands. Upon arrival, Northbound picked us up from our airport hotel and brought us to the rental office to start our trip on schedule. The check-in process was swift but felt slightly rushed. After a brief check for pre-existing damage and document signing, we were sent on our way. It was only until we had already finished our grocery shopping did we realize our added-on cooler was not working properly. Luckily, we were still close enough to the rental office to have them take a better look and replace the malfunctioning extension cord provided. Upon reaching our remote campground and setting up our rented grill that evening, we realized were also not provided the corresponding gas tank for the grill. Again, not a major mishap, but definitely a bit frustrating. Luckily, Northbound was extremely responsive and helpful with correcting this annoyance by providing instructions to purchase a gas tank from a gas station and refunding us for both the tank purchased and the rented grill. Eight days and no other issues later, we made our way back to the rental office where we sadly returned our camper. We were told the person who checked us in was new and therefore was not familiar with the different cooking devices and their corresponding gas tanks. That morning was also particularly busy for the rental office and therefore resulted in a bit of a sloppy check in. My only advice for both renters and the company moving forward would be to definitely pay close attention to what items you rented along with your camper and ask for a rundown on how to set up those items. Northbound should also provide a checklist to walk the customer through the pick-up process to ensure everything is present, in working order and understood how to set up and use. Other than that, our trip would definitely not have been as incredible as it was without our experience with Northbound. Last tip: If you're using google maps to locate the Keflavik rental office, the address that is shown is not correct! The rental office is actually about 6 minutes away from the address provided by google. Definitely something to look into. Thanks again for everything!! Sami

Finally it is not a Hyundai i20, is a Kia Río. We had a problem in a Ring Road, cause of the gravel our car goes outside the road. I demanded a crane to our help, but anyone was to our rescue, and Lagoon Car Rental said to me that we need to wait until the next morning (this it was at night), but at the morning anyone appear. Finally, and with the people help, we could to went to the road again. We are very disappointed about this problem. In addition of this, not other problem.

First it was not a car, like in the contract, it was not from 2017 it was not really clean an it smelled from oil when he was warm. The light from the wheel-preasure was lightning, but the employee said, it's all ok. One day later the wheel was flat. He said, after wheel-change we should drive to Akureyri to change the wheel, but in this 200 km the car brooke down completlty. We stood about 3 hours in the rain, while the customer-servive at the phone said, in about 1 hour an mechanican will come. When the mechanican arrived, he was very helpful and another man from a guesthouse drove us to our accomodation. The new car came the next day at about 10:00 am, and the assitent from the company was also very helpful and nice. With this car than we had nomore problems and the rest of the journey was really nice. But it's a shame that we lost one day of our journey. Never the less island is a great place!!!

The customer service was great, and we very much appreciated the transportation to and from the airport. The car, however, was incredibly small which was less than ideal for such a long trip. I couldn't even sit up straight without hitting the ceiling and I'm only 5'10". I asked for a larger car and they said none were available. Will definitely want to ensure a larger car next time I get a rental abroad.
