There are HUGE areas for improvments from Lotus Car rental, and the communication between you and Lotus: 1) On arrival: In your mail of the 8th July to me you said: "You will be driven to the vehicle's location via a shuttle bus. The shuttle driver will meet you at the airport, inside the arrival hall." Inside the arrival hall there were no representatives from Lotus. There were no signs where Lotus could have a meeting point or any other indication where to meet or that Lotus at all knew that we were comming. (There was "total chaos" in the arrival hall with numerous people with signs trying to meet people comming with a plane.) So we called the Emergency phone +354 787 4444, and after some time got in contact with Lotus. The service and information from Lotus was not satisfactory but we at last understood that someone was driving a shuttle bus between the airport and Lotus location. We just had to wait to be picked up. After 20 minutes we suddenly saw a girl leaving the arrival area together with 6 tourists. She had a Lotus jacket. WE contacted her and she said that we could join, if there was room in the car. (someone else was left behind.) 2) In your e-mail to med the 5th Mars you said: "Hi Bernt, this supplier is open until 2 am so it's no problem for a after midnight pick up on the 23rd of July. The GPS is automatically included in this booking, no need to add it as extra." When picking up the car at midnight the 23, Lotus insisted that "No GPS is included in this booking. We have not agreed with Northbound to supply GPS." After showing Lotus the mail from you they came up with a screen they said could be fastened to the front window anmd that could be used as GPS during our travel. Lotus was not able to make it work before we took over the car, and it never worked during our 2 weeks stay. We ended up with using Google Maps and paying with our own licence from Norway. 3) Inspection of the car. It was midnight and relatively dark. The vehicle inspection was done without a good flash light (I had to use my phone, Lotus had a light, close to nothing). It was therfore impossible to see the 2-4 minor marks on the front vindshield that had been hit by smal stones. If seen we would either refused the car, or discused what insurance that was necessary, if these kind of damages wre common.. Unfortunately this was not done, and Lotus recommended a "Silver" insurance. During our stay a roch hit the windshield causing a crack. Returing the car Lotus charges us ISK 223.840 for the damage. 4) Lotus supplied us with a "discount" package from a petroleum supplier. They should have given us a map showing the location of the N1 gas stations.

Overall experience was good. At pickup I had to ask several times for explanation about the car. Did not get the car I had ordered although I was promised a "guaranteed model". I can understand that this is not always possible. But we got a plug in hybrid model with a 35-Liter gasoline tank so we had to refuel frequently and driving longer F-Roads we were a bit nervous if we would have enough petrol. And no charging cable! On the other side it is great that Lotus offers river crossing insurance!!

The Northbound representatives were very responsive. We were renting a Highlander (4x4) and tried to add coverage from rentalcover.com, but the agent added a "car" policy instead of a "4x4" policy, and that led to a lot of confusion. Eventually I dropped the rentalcover.com policy and just went with Lotus's policy. Thankfully it wasnt needed. The vehicle itself was ok...it functioned well, but was pretty beat up. The front passenger door would not lock until the second to last day when it just started to lock. Lotus was not the easiest company to work with. It was a big hectic to drive over to Lotus then back to the airport to get our family. There was a long line of customers when we arrived, and multiple Lotus workers standing around doing nothing but chatting with each other. We rented car seats from them because our car seats were not Iceland compliant, and they gave us a non-Iceland compliant seat for a 3 year old. Thankfully no problems resulted. It just felt like the whole thing was run by a bunch of apathetic teenagers. When we went to return the car, I drove there with my family, but then they told me to drop off my family at the airport and come back alone because it would be difficult for us with the shuttle. Even though we were pressed for time, I did that. Only to get back to the agency and have two families larger than my family taking the shuttle. That was frustrating. The price per day was outrageous (could rent a Ferrari for that price in the US, but alas we were in Iceland, so instead a beat up highlander with 120,000km on it). It did the job, just lots of little ways it could have been a lot better.

Everything was fine. Maybe I would appreciate info that trunk was separated by cage, which is little bit impractical for travelling.
