MYCAR in Iceland

I was picked up by a very nice employee at KEF airport and then got my car very quickly. The Toyota Yaris was perfect for my tour in the south. Very economical and good to drive. The drop off of the car in Reykjavik went also smoothly. The only thing I could complain about is the price which was very high because of the increased demand due to the volcano eruption some weeks earlier.

Everything was perfect—easy pick-up and drop-off and the car was in excellent condition. No complaints at all. The Toyota Yaris was an excellent choice for our round trip around Iceland as we did not have too much luggage and mainly stayed on the ring road (road no 1). It was also very fuel efficient, and with the high fuel prices in Iceland, it was worth it. Going out of the ring road, though, we encountered gravel roads often. We could have rented a higher car not to be afraid of going too fast on them.

Thanks to Northbound, we found MyCar from whom we rented a 2022 model Land Cruiser. Extremely helpful and clear communications whilst picking up the vehicle. Returning was even simpler, with the lady dropping me back to our hotel close to the airport without any fuss. The zero excess insurance was also clearly explained and I would recommend it to anybody driving in Iceland, specially 4x4s.

It was a very good car with enough space for 4 people.

In general, the experience was outstanding, almost up to the end. The car was great, comportable, great for the challenging terrain of Iceland in-land roads. We had enough room for 4 adults + 1 teenager + all of our luggage. However, we had a very bad experience after returning the car - at the return we did not encounter any problem, however after about a week, when we were already back in Israel, I received an email from MYCAR stating that they found a small scratch/hit at the back bumper, and that they had already fixed it ("body repair, plastic repair, paint work and material", etc.), and charged our credit card for the incredible amount of 143.313 ISK !! Needless to say we did not see of experience any damage or accident during our entire trip. The company neglected to mention any damage when we returned it, and we could not confront these allegations since we were already back in Israel. The company left us no other choice since they already charged our credit card! We would definitely not use MYCAR again, and in anycase we now know that you should always get a written and signed statement from the company that everything is OK at the return of the vehicle, and also take as much pictures when you return the car, not only when you pick it up.

The car rental process went smoothly without any issues. We got the car we were promised from MyCar. The Mycar staff were excellent and the Northbound people answered any questions we had during the process.

The car was perfect. Taking the carwas simple. Somebody was waiting for us at the airport and drove us to the renting area the At the end, there was a shuttle to the airport too.
