Hi, Our experience with the car itself was not as good as we expected. The car was pretty old, it had 155.000km on the clock and was not comfortable to be driven at all, brakes clutch, transmission, direction control, suspension, everything has to be checked and repaired in that car prior renting it. Icelandic roads are rough and sometimes can be dangerous in a car like that. The rooftent was in the same condition as the car, pretty old with holes everywhere (we had to buy duct tape to repair it). Although the pick-up at drop-off with NL was really easy going, and the staff was friendly as well. We are coming back to Iceland soon (hopefully) and we will try another car rental company and maybe a different car also, but we will most probably use Northbound again as the website and customer service is good.

The car was very good. We were crossing the island and also driving on f-roads therefore we were glad to have this car. The car was in very good shape, we had no problems with it also not in the highland. The pick up on the airport and the handover of the car was very well organized. Also we had a change request for the giving back of the car at the end of our tour, we did it by phone and mail and it worked best. We can unreservedly recommend the Northern Lights Car Rental.

Didn't get off to a good start when no-one was there to pick us up at the airport and no-one answered the phone number we were asked to call if this happened. It turns out they pick up every hour on the hour so it would heave been helpful to know this in advance. The van had done 36,000 miles and needed servicing; the oil change warning was on continually, the ABS developed a fault and there was a leak from water system which ran across the van floor. The electrical lead was faulty and we couldn't plug in the first night but we went back the next day and they provided new ones which were fine. Overall, they were helpful if a little disorganised and the van got us right round the ring road which allowed us to have a fantastic holiday despite these problems.

Car pickup process went fine. On return, there was only one person in the office who was also the shuttle bus driver - he was very polite, but could have used some help to handle all the customers more efficiently. The Duster performed well overall, although it did seem a little hard to get in 6th gear sometimes. Also, neither the USB port nor the cigarette lighter was able to charge my phone. There seemed to be power from both, but no charging, even though charging light was on. This was bit of problem since I did a lot of driving and needed the GPS on my phone for navigation often. Is there a difference between USA and European cars in this regard?

No issues with the car or with Northbound, but Lagoon Car Rental was not impressive. No one was there to pick us up at the airport as promised, instead we had to call them and wait.

Heater broke, Spare tire was thrown in and not secured, the lining on the door kept coming off, I had to wait 3 hours before a vehicle was ready.
