Car Rentals in Iceland

Had a great experience all around. Very friendly staff.

I found Northbound and compared prices and decided on Lagoon after finding it to be best fit for my trip. It helped to be able to chat with someone as I made a decision. It was cheapest and had bedding included as well as 24 hour pick up and drop off to and from airport. The camper itself was great and the pick up and drop off seamless. What I do recommend to Lagoon and what lacked for us was an employee coming to the van and showing us the extra equipment and how it works such as bed folding out, the window vent, curtains and tent. We did not even realize there was a tent in there until last night.

Our rental had everything we needed for our stay in Iceland and made it easy to get around and experience the country. Having a heater was especially helpful and it was nice and cozy while we slept.

Check in by the office staff for the Camper was a bit chaotic. Vehicle was missing an electrical cord and spare can of fix-a-flat(unit did not have a spare tire. It had a jack, but no spare, which makes no sense. Therefore we had to wait nearly an hour while these items were acquired. The explanation of operation of the various features such as heater, water heater, etc by the office rep was brief and a bit rushed. Luckily, our person from the office rushed off to do something else, and then one of the guys from the shop (forget his name, but he mentioned he was a former claims adjuster) stepped in to answer my operational questions. He took his time and made sure I fully understood how to operate the systems. He was great. I recommend having the units completely ready, and providing written instructions on how to operate the electrical, heating and other systems, since they often work differently with each RV. Each RV should also have a spare. If we had had a flat on one of the remote roads it would have ruined the trip, because that can of fix a flat would have never gotten us to the next town... Once we hit the road, the RV worked perfectly for us, and we were very pleased overall.

Really the experience was not very good. We arrived late to the Reykjavik airport, around 1:30 AM and Nordic Campers transfer arrived more or less in time. Around 2 AM we were ready to leave and when we tried to start the motorhome (Ford), the engine was broken, that means that they didn't review the vehicle to ensure it was working correctly. They provided us with another motorhome (Fiat). We moved all the luggage to the new van, and then we notice that the second bed in the dining area was very small (around 1.50 meters or less). Nordic Camper responsible tried to convince us that it was fine and that we could use it as a bed without problems. I had to literally lay down in the bed to show that it was impossible to use. They didn't have more motorhomes available and the solution that they give us is that we should drive with the new van to the nearest camping (at 3 AM), sleep in the camping and then return at 8 AM when they open the office to get a new van. This solution was a nonsense, pay a camping, and sleep only a few hours in a van with children beds, so we suggest to sleep directly in their parking in the original Ford motorhome. At 8:00 AM we talked again with the person at the Nordic Camper desk (this person was much more competent than the one in charge the previous night), the mechanics checked that the engine was broken and they gave us another van with 4 full-size beds and a working engine. We were aware when we rented the motorhome that it will not be the latest model, but we also found a couple of problems during the travel. The first one was the handbrake, it was not working correctly and it was needed to leave a gear on to park. Also, the locking of the fridge was not working and we had to lock the door with the luggage. In summary, maybe we had bad luck, but it seems that Nordic Campers doesn't have enough personnel and procedures to ensure that they provide a good quality level to their customers.

It was a very easy process after arriving at the airport. The shuttle bus to the car rental office was easy to locate and the staff were very friendly even at 12.30am in the morning which was much appreciated. The car was fantastic. Clean and in excellent condition and absolutely no trouble for our 3 day hire period. Drop off was also exceptionally easy. We were very happy with this rental company. The only areas to mention for concern are the car was very heavy on fuel, which we knew before renting and also the car rental was not cheap for 3 days. Again we did know these facts. Very good experience

Orange car rental had good prices and packages to go along with the vehicle. The Suzuki Jimny was a great vehicle but was in need of some maintenance. The tires were pretty worn and there was some cosmetic damages that needed fixed. However the car did well on our trip and we had no mechanical issues.

Good. Very nice communication. Car was clean and perfectly equipped. However, the axis was a little loosely.

An excellent experience all the way through, start to finish. Their responses to my many email questions were thorough and prompt. Pickup at the airport was prompt, the gentlemen walked around the arrival hall with a board displaying my name. He found me getting coffee. I appreciated him going that extra mile, all the other pickup persons were just standing in one place waiting. I had a few issues while on the road, customer support was quick. The vehicle itself was in good condition and was easy to drive. I would recommend the company without hesitation.
