Car Rentals in Iceland

A week traveling around Iceland was a amazing experience! Most Iceland's beauties are accessible only by gravel roads, so Mitsubishi L200 equipped with Mountain Tent was the best choice!! Car was in TOP condition and became our home for a week! It's a comfortable but tough car that can drive you everywhere (river crossings are in everyday schedule!!) safely! Guys from Lagoon cars keep their fleet well maintained. They were also very helpful and polite and always ready to assist! Price was competitive as well. We are very happy with Lagoon Cars. In our next visit to Iceland Lagoon Cars will be our first choice again!!!

Excellent! Pick up and drop off at our hotel was quick and easy. The representative was very friendly. The car was small, and not new, but that’s what we paid for. Wish there were more amenities that could be filtered when searching for cars. We probably would have paid extra for cruise control and an audio auxiliary jack.

Just an okay experience renting from Thrifty. Rented a Citroen Berlingo through Northbound.is for 14 days. Perfect size for 5 people with considerable amount of baggages. Dealing with the front desk upon car pickup and return was a breeze. The reason why I rated only 3.5 was because, I think the adblue diesel additive wasn’t filled up properly and gave me a warning sign on the 10th day of driving. Luckily enough, I’ve already covered most of the mileage in our itinerary when the alarm came on. Interesting enough adblue is not available all over Iceland and only sold in certain locations. Made me worry at some point.

OK. Some things on the van did not work or were missing which we only discovered once well on route (half the curtain between the driving bay and rest of vehicle; something to light the gas; and it took us ages to find a gas station that sold gas cylinders - there is no point renting a van without gas so a cylinder with gas should be part of the package; and to get the gas stove to work we had to hold down the buttons with something otherwise the flame went out; impossible to open vent above double bed because of missing handle; window blind on left side above table would not stay up so impossible to keep out the light which made sleeping difficult given short nights). There was an orange light on the dashboard that sometimes came on indicating the engine struggling or the disc slipping (?) - in 40 years of driving have never seen this symbol so spent a lot of time worrying the fan-belt or clutch was about to give up. The electric cable was too short in three of the campsites we stayed at so could not connect to electricity and did not find a shop selling extension cable of suitable amperage. otherwise comfortable and clean - we will be coming back and renting a camper - but next time will try to find a more recent vehicle even if a bit more expensive.

Icerental 4x4 was fine. The Suzuki Jimny was perfect for my friend and I. Just enough room for the two of us and our stuff, and the roof tent worked out great. While there's a great list of items listed as included with the vehicle, it's imperative to check to make sure everything is actually there before you take off. I noticed the missing GPS first thing, but I didn't check either of the gas canisters to make sure we'd be able to have hot food. By the time I realized that we wouldn't be eating our dinner, it was midnight, and the person who picked up the "customer service" line was pretty annoyed that I called him about it. Advised me to buy some in the morning. All in all, perfect little vehicle, just double check to make sure you have everything you need before driving off on your adventure. Northbound was great though. By far the best prices I could find, great reviews, and when I called and emailed with questions, I got quick and friendly answers.

Geysir had a relatively fast check out and return process, and the coffee and WC available inside was great after an early arrival and departure. They also had a shuttle bus locater on the TV so you don't have to wait outside in the cold for the shuttle bus back to the airport.

So far everything went well. I have not checked my CC statement yet. Hope there are no surprises :).
