Car Rentals in Iceland

GoCampers had excellent service throughout our trip. We were able to call them and get help at anytime. The van came fully equipped and did not give us a single problem throughout the trip. The bed was pretty comfortable also. They only thing they could improve on is offering a shuttle to the airport. The location of the GoCampers building is about 40 minutes away from the airport and it would be nice to not have to worry about getting to and from that location.

The vehicle was old and dirty. Nobody explained to us anything about its operation. When it broke down, we did not receive assistance from the company. We had to take the vehicle to the garage. They did not respond to e-mails or text messages, and when they answered the phone they were quite unpleasant and rude. We lost two days with the damaged car outside a garage. To finish, no apology or compensation.

The rental car with Lagoon Car Rentals went smoothly. We were picked up from the airport and taken to the rental office nearby. We awaited our turn and were given our rental. It wasn't what we chose but a similar car - Kia Sportage (It does not fit more than 2 large suitcases and 2 duffels) Upon return the system was similar. Good service and smooth rental. They could have more people working at the office to make things go faster.

The van that we rented was great for our needs and very comfortable for our large group. It was in good condition and we had no problems with it. Here are some issues: 1. There was a lot of confusion at the airport to figure out how to get to the rental office. Since Orange Car rental is part of Geysir now, we were supposed to take the shuttle bus and get off at the geysir stop. However, the instructions we had stated we look for someone with the Orange car rental sign at the airport. Instructions need to be more clear. 2. The GPS unit was useless for us. We thought that like most units we have used in the past, a destination could be entered and it would direct us there. But, it did not seem to recognize destinations. So, we ended up using our phones instead. We would like a refund on the cost of the GPS rental. 3. It's much faster to walk between the rental office and airport terminal than to wait for the shuttle bus. This should be presented as an option to those who wish to do so.

Pleasant staff, difficult to find rental place as it was labeled as Geysir not Orange.

Overall it was nice, no issues. A couple suggestions: have a can opener and corkscrew, and maybe something to make coffee in. You should consider another method of getting the heat out from underneath the bed. I think too much is left there. Large vents behind the seats which match the large vents in the cross member. We stored food with the dishes and that area then gets too hot because of the vent.

Very convenient, reliable car. Tent was great. Heavy rain caused some drops to get into the cabin on the driver's side. Looking at the age of the car, this can however be expected.

The handover and return was very good; we got exactly the car we had indicated. The Volvo XC60 AWD was a perfect and very reliable car for our tour; in addition, diesel consumption was pleasantly low at an average of 7 litres per 100 kilometres.
