Reviews for all companies
Un véhicule confortable, propre et agréable à conduire sur les chemins.
Everything was perfect!
It was not the Ford, it was Dacia Dokker. So it was a little different than what we expected.
Some features of the car are not very appropriate for this kind of use, like: you can not open the back door from inside; you have to change the seats before sleeping...
Great! Very responsive, very good car in execellent condition
We had a really good experience with Northern Lights car rental. First off, they were very accommodating with multiple changes we had to make, including last-minute changes, due to Covid 19 related flight cancellations and rebookings.
We rented a four wheel drive Dacia Duster, which was perfect for our 3-week tour on the rough dirt roads ( not F-roads) along the fjords and over the mountains in West Iceland and the Westfjords. The Duster was not the newest, but it was obviously well maintained. It was very rugged and never let us down.

The rental service was really good. All of the information was clear. Upon arrival everything was settled already and the returning went really quick as well. Good shuttle service from and to the airport
The employees were friendly and the price of the rental was good, but the rented car had a lot of mechanical and electronic problems (not very comforting during our stay).
The ideal car for the way we travel in Iceland. Just the right size for two people and our luggage and very competent on the F-roads (the suspension was a bit hard but that is part of the fun). A proper miniature LandRover.
the experience with Lava camper was good with very competitive prices compared to other rentals. the only points that can be improved are: 1) would need darkened side windows or curtains as they are not present. 2) to go off road it is better to put big wheels that soften the impact with the ground. quality and competitive prices with other rentals.
First the Nissan NV200 was not available whe we arrived. So they gave us a Dacia Dokker. As we did'nt agree on that point, they decided to deliver us a Toyota PROACE the day after our arrival. But we had Heater problems with the Toyota. So we switch again for the Dacia for 3 days during the Toyota Heater repair. At least the Toyota was delivered again and we did appreciate this new car with the heater functioning correctly.
The people in contact with us during this period were very watchful, reactive and relentless to find the solution for us and be sure every thing was ok. We did appreciate a lot their kindless and their devotion.
I was a bit worried about using Blue Car rental for our two week Iceland adventure, but it turned out to be a good decision. I'd originally booked with one of the big hire companies, but was tempted to switch to Blue when I saw their price was over £300 cheaper for the same car. Separately, I took out excess cover with an insurance company, just to be safe (around £40 for annual cover - why haven't I done this before?!!). When I picked up the car we were upgraded from a Dacia Duster to a Nissan Quashqai. There was no hard sell on extra cover when I told them I had my own, and the process was very quick. Our bags barely fit in the car (3 young kids means a lot of stuff) but a guy came out and helped - he suggested taking out the two base boards in the boot, which meant we could just about fit everything in, and we were away. After two weeks we returned the car. I was told to leave the keys on a desk and I would receive a condition report on the car...
We get an upgrade what is always good!! Thanks for that.
We spent 2 weeks with this car and without issues, only our mattress get wet because of the rain. Lotus Car rental contacted us bud the next days it was dry and also the mattress was dry very soon! Great experience Thanks a lot.
LAVA CAR is very good.
The car was fine.
The staff were very friendly and quick to respond.
The prices were good and the reviews were very good.
I recommend LAVA / Northbound.
Very nice journey Thanks to you.
Even if the car had more than 185 000 km, it was perfect. Economic (Diesel) and very strong.
I would like to tell you that we were very surprised to find someone speaking french at the front desk. It was very interesting for us. The young Lady gave us very good addresses that we tested. When we come back to Iceland, we certainly choose Northbound again. And we will recommend.

The car was technically ok, but could have been cleaner, especially the inside of the windshield. The dimensions of the rooftop tent could be pointed out more clearly. I'm 190cm and could not stretch fully.
Very good service, great overview of the market, competitive pricing. I found it extremely helpful!
Dacia Duster was simply perfect! We had an amazing adventure through Icelandic roads: the 4WD allows you to drive on the F-roads, the car is very spacious and easy to drive. Highly recommended!
Great car, good price and good service.
It was very good. It was quick and efficient with the renting and we were happy about the shuttle to and from the airport.
Only minor things to comment, like there being no lid for the pot and some of the plates and glasses had chips in them, but this did not affect our experience in a negative way.
The car was good to drive and spacious to sleep in, but the condensation was an issue as water would start to drip on us if we slept too late. I would maybe choose a different car next time.
The Suzuki was quite good. Just that the radar brake was most times automatically disabled when it rains and the navigation system was out of date.
The communication and the customer support was quite good.
A few topics to improve:
- Transport capacity between airport and northern lights...we had to wait more then one hour
- At the end we had to park the car directly at the airport. A short notice via mail would have saved us the way to northern lights
- Maybe we missed it but a notice about the deposit would have been good to know
Decent car, some minor problems like AC not working, wheels not balanced, whining fan-belt, and backdoor a bit lose.
And also the Tires were not of the newest kind, since you also are responsible if a tire breaks.
But we had a really good trip with the 4x4 and the vehicle did not let us down :)
Good and fun greetings and service from staff!
General Experience was very good just a few little remarks although,
When mentioning car has a GPS better check if it exist and works, ( once we discovered there is not one I received one so all I say check well )
This car is wide and the car original mirrors are nearly not enough ( extended mirrors Or at least an option to rent them is an advantage )
The bed must improve the mattress at least a double thickness it will avoid problems of the back and crazy people that actually my sue the company for damage)
Speaking of the sleeping area better mesure carefully I’m 177 cm I could touch the ends of the sleeping area ( it is good to be precise, on the other hand for one or two it’s not bad at all)
A little more explanations in details about the living compartment could be improved ( how to dismantle the table in the middle )
A few more items like cattle for boiling tea and coffee maker ( I left mine ) would be a nice touch...
average - car really needed a big check up BEFORE the keys were hand over. Too many things weren't checked. Also essentials such as the windshield wipers we had to replace ourselves. There were lots of strange noises in that car and the sun visor at the passengers side wasn't original which made it impossible to decently open OR close it. Returning the car was also a mess because of lack of staff. Only two people there who had to do the documents, check the cars AND drive the busses to the airport. Result: long queue in the office and nobody there because they were at the airport. Neven seen such an bad organisation before.
Pick up at the airport was a little bit slow. Not enough drivers/cars to transfer all people from the airport to the rental company. We received a great car (not the one that was reserved) but gps was no good. After a couple of days the dashboard of the car mentioned that a check up was necessary. Called the company and they told us not to worry. Drop off was not that smooth. Only two people present who were driving people from their office to the airport while no one was in the office taking care of people who wanted to bring back their cars.
We didn't get a Vitara. They gave us an S Cross. We think it wasn't a comparable car and for the F roads in the highlands not high enough and an inadequatly springing.
The driver who picked us up at the airport and at northern lights didn't help us with the luggage to disposite it right in the car for transport. The navigation wasn't up to date so we used our mobile phone. Many roadds were unknown.
Thank you for your feedback. We would like to point out that the Suzuki S-Cross and Suzuki Vitara are similar models. The S-Cross has slightly higher ground clearance making it the same for travelling on F-roads like on the Vitara. Due to Covid, we do not handle luggage and try to minimise all contacts. We do apologise if the GPS was not working as it should.
We had a very good time in iceland with the Dacia Dokker! It is a perfect way to explore iceland! Good to sleep in the car. It is also warm inside, we just used the heather a few minutes before we go the sleep. The Dacia drives good and it has a strong engine.
The service was perfect and friendly!
I can recomend everyone to rent a car by Star Car rental, It was also the cheapest one I could find!
I really loved traveling around in the jimny with a roof tent that we rented. I live in Iceland and i am used to traveling around the country but this way we got to experience our country in a different way. I would really recommend. :)
